I think that it was a good move to make the car safer, and last longer. I LOVE the way that you blended the sound of the grinder into the music (with the 303-esque synth) during the first timelapse.

You did a great job because now the car is safe to use and that is the important part. I know after you are done it will look a whole lot better than whatever it had before. Amazing what you can do in a crunch.
The welded sill may not look like a masterpiece (at least not for a Picasso😜) but it certainly gives the car a bit of well deserved extra time and miles.
Oh, this has taken me back forty years to the sills on my Renault 16! First "repair" involved a section of a forty gallon oil drum and pop rivets followed by underseal - and then when the left hand rear torsion bar bearing broke away from the inner box section (because Renault) my father and I fitted two new pattern sills but he also had to make up a huge inner strengthener because it had rotted just like the Picasso's had. The car was welded with gas, so fire did happen on more than one occasion. God, I miss that car... great sound track, by the way!!
Combi boiler - love it 🤣🤣🤣
Must be a first for me to click on a up N Down video without binge watching. It might not look pretty, it might have a bit of bx door but it adds character to the car, you have given it more time on the road to rack up the miles. A excellent video as always Rich.
Great work and great content Kitch - its not just made the Picasso well again its made it safe which is very important

Thanks for the hours of toil you spent on keeping pass on the road for a bit longer - it was great to see how bad the sill was, how much metal you had to cut our and replace and for the lesson that weld quality needs good preparation (and not terrible metal) ... and the electric file (grinder) is a key part to making welds look better
Dude, even I mostly wear gloves and sleeves these days! You'll be chain smoking next.. Fun fact, in a reverse of the usual situation, replacement sills for these things are better quality than Citroen managed at factory. Still, for a 21 year old, half million mile car there was a surprising amount of metal left down there. Anyway. The music that could almost be Moby? Who dat? It's ace. I need that in my life.

I bought a £400 2.0 HDI Picasso a couple of years ago - the home trader seller said he’d put 12m mot on but he just had to do this same part of the sill. Few days later I pick the car up and he admitted it was a horrible nasty job. Completely fell in love with the car though, they are a skip on wheels that can be parked anywhere. It felt cheap on the inside but not in an annoying way - it was just very honest about it’s purpose. I’d love another, not many 2.0D’s left though… which is a shame because that motor suited the car.
I can't help but think of Ronnie Pickering whenever I see a Xsara Picasso.
Good job done with what you had and with the time you had. Fair play to you.
As I keep telling the wife I may not look pretty and I can be temperamental and difficult to get started but you have invested so much in me already that you may as well make sure I keep going. So far she keeps falling for it.
Given the constraints. a practical and functional repair, well done. I kind of like the smoke streaks up the door, laquer over them and it's part of the story.
Look it's 150% better than it was you had no option mate, and it's stronger than it was.
Impressive work for the time used!
I would call that a very functional repair, needs must etc. Nice "heavy metal" background music to boot.👍👍
At 7.20 "you can pick holes in it" right now you can literally pick holes in it so I'd say you've improved it 😂😂😂
Brilliantly done considering everything you had to take into account. Yes it might not be beautiful but like our own scars it shows a life lived and gives a lead to stories that can be told of adventures had ( bit OTT but you get my meaning) . In the same way as cosmetic surgery hides the real person your work and time with Pass has been captured for the rest of its life . Now that’s OTT😊
Congratulations on your persistence with the sill. I think you did a good job given the circumstances.
THANK YOU, RICH!!! Really grateful for your efforts.
That was a Big Success from me. Done within the Time Constraints. In my opinion "Not Bodged" It was a solid and legal repair. Well done. Cheers.
I've also done regular rust repairs, so I know how big the fight is. It always takes longer than you hope.
Poor Old Picasso. You are doing right by the Old Picasso even though it's just a quick patch job. This car needs to survive, Well Done.
Always more hidden rust, good solid job 👍 & entertaining as usual 😊, nice one Rich .
Interesting and educational to watch. Definitely safer than before considering the various factors you were up against.

Ah! Rich thanks for showing the old citroen some love your a good egg. I see some good citroen carma coming your way from the citroen gods.
I just did a pretty major welding job on my elgrand (check my last vid if you so please) and everything takes 8 times longer than you think. I felt your pain when you said making the outer skin out of two parts would suck, I had to, I've got no way to bend a sheet of metal that long. So then I had to spend hours matching the bends, getting them flush, welding them flush, grinding flush etc. I refuse to overlap welds, everything was flush. frigging nightmare. When you said I'm gonna try do it under an hour, I was thinking 'hes having a laugh'. You still did it faster than I imagined even if it 'only' took you 5ish hours.
Saw it at the fest and didnt think it looked too bad! Its all about keeping the wheels turning and thats done that :)
Pass the Piccaso well done for your extra hard work in sorting out the sill. Many years ago my boss had a red and black roof Ford Capri . The sills were bad on that car and to get it thr' the MOT he got his staff to help make paper mashie paste which we placed on those sills. Then that night he undersealed it and sent it for an other MOT. It passed with flying colours . So there an answer for the next time you have a problem >>>>>>>>>>>>
I guess one way in which a Xsara Picasso HDi COULD be exciting would be if one of the sills gave way at motorway speed (sorry, I mean 70mph, which is not necessarily motorway speed IRL). It was great to see your act of love on the Picasso, even if it was necessarily a bit rough.
It was fun to watch at least :D. Love your content. ///A Citroën nerd
Saw this beast at FOTU - we’ve had 2 of these and they’re pretty impressive, fun, quick enough and mega practical bikes, engines the like, it then got stacked
Lovely job 🚗🚙🚘👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
You might (in this case) have done a stupid thing..... But you are a good man. And thats what counts, innit?
No matter how many times I tell myself not to, I always end up doing jobs while looking at the clock, and it invariably goes wrong!
I think you gave the correct part the attention it needed, i.e. the bracing. The rest is cosmetic, and who doesn't like a bit of combi boiler and BX door? Increased the value, I'd say.
I feel your pain, I was a welder in an MOT station and some of the old repairs I had to cut away to do a proper repair were incredible. A Mercedes’ came in and had three cover calls welded over each other. I ended up stripping out the interior to replace the inner cill front to back then the strengthening membrane and then the outer cill. I had phoned the owner and got the ok to do this, he had bought the car a week earlier with a months test on it and brought it to us to check out. Did the one side and he arranged to get the other done the following month. The tales that repair shops could tell you would scare you shi*less.

If it's like the Peugeot 406 they have an inner and outer sill with a plate in the middle that all rots because the sunroof drains into it. Nothing wrong with a bit of recycling; I used a computer case and washing machine case and it's already painted.
It looks OK to me, for a quickie job - definitely not a bodge, more like the rectification of a previous bodge!
This is perfect for the person looking to get some more time out of a good running but rotted out POS. This is how I do it at least. I chop out the rot, weld in steel and I don't concern myself over the scars. As long as it's solid, I don't care. I can get more out of my vehicles. Was that a Union Jack on your cutoff wheel for the grinder?

I have that exact job on a 1953 8 waiting for me to get round to it, along with floor pan outer edges and door bottoms.
