I am a Xsara Picasso owner (on my second one currently a 59 plate 1.6 desire petrol) and its a glorious old shed. Yes its painfully slow, ugly and has the turning circle and handling characteristics of an aircraft carrier but it's in my opinion one of the most versatile cars for the money. I have mine like this in permanent van mode with the rear seats out as I'm a tradesman and it's fantastic for dumping copious amounts of crap in. I also don't need to worry about some thieving little git trying to break in it like I would a swanky Transit Custom/Transporter and can get away with doing tip runs in it without being accosted by Joe High Vis. It's also incredibly comfy, uber cheap to run, reliable, has amazing visbility and it's not that terrible to drive. I also never have any anxiety about parking it anywhere and I could probably go camping in the back of it if I wanted to. I previously had a 2.0hdi which I ran on veggy oil. They're a pretty unique vehicle and worth a punt as an old workhorse.

As you infer, these cars are super reliable and very economical. I did not realise how economical the diesel is until driving one for over 10 years. To get into the high mpg league you first need to press the button on the end of the indicator button a few times to get it to display your recent mpg. Then you press it once more to show the current mpg. Then you can can start to experiment how to to get the mpg much higher. Before learning the tricks, I got 38mpg. I now get around 56mpg, and around 61mpg on motorway journeys. The basic techniques are to practice very slow acceleration and minimise breaking making your decisions as far in advance as possible. Then look for opportunities to coast down hills, even gentle ones, which can greatly boost your mpg. It takes practice, but you'll get better all the time. These are boring cars to drive, so a little game like this makes the journey more entertaining!

I love my XSARA PICASSO. doesnt matter which side the fuel flap is because almost all pumps can reach it from the wrong side. Taking the rear seats out makes the car so flexible.......can be used as a van, then replace the seats for passengers. Its a multitasking car. Its a spy car with compartments in the floor and beneath the drivers seat. I used to have the equivalent Renault which also has a draw beneath the front passenger seat. Citroen, for some inexplicable reason, chose to place the battery beneath the front passenger. But I still love it! But I have ruined the paintwork using a jet wash, so may have a re-wrap to keep it looking good. So glad you changed your mind the longer you drove it!!

One of my cars is one of these. 2.0 hdi. Owned it five years and added over 50,000 miles on to it mostly carrying amps PA systems and keyboards. Totally reliable except I had to totally replace the sills as they rotted away 😂That 2.0 hdi engine will cover 1/2 million miles quite easily. 👍

I have had my citroen xsara picasso since November last year got given it from a friend and he used it as a work van for about 5 years was family owned from new needed a oil change and full service when I got it and I have moved My self with it and moved loads of friends just service it the over day it has not missed a beat great car I wood never tort I wood drive one but now I love the car just started getting some upgrades for it I recommend one of the citroen xsara picassos to any one who needs a cheap family car or a cheap little van

Funnily enough i was looking at one of these to add to my citroen fleet the other day 😂😂 My uncle had one of the first of these when they came out, no major issues apart the door dropping a bit, was a great family car for him.

I'm just about to go and buy another of these. I am in Portugal so I'll be paying £2500 for a 2005 plate with 180,000 miles. All cars here are expensive, but well looked after. Thing is, Picassos are not a bit shit, they are actually great. Good ground clearance as well so we can easily drive on the dirt roads and tracks. Plus I've never had a back ache no matter how many miles I do in a day.

Where do I put my £10 ???? Had to sell my beloved Saab 9000 a few years ago as it suffered from horrendous tin worm around the windscreen and I certainly can't afford one now as they've shot up and rightly so as they've been under the radar for a long time . Grew up in them, love them! Yours is stunning and I've been hooked on your videos since I discovered them a few days ago, keep it up mate great channel!

That beeping noise is usually when the boot is not shut properly. I have same year same model, bought it as a run around for £500 with the hope it would last a year until it's MOT, 5 yrs later she is still plodding on & I love her to bits

That knocking on start up and shut down is your crankshaft pulley. It's common on those engine

My dads favourite! (although it did have AC, a radio and two armrests) Kept it the longest, put the most miles on it. Back seats went in the garage for the bulky stuff. Even the fella who bought it was buzzin about the HDI non DPF engine...

Love em. On my second. I strip the seats and camp in it. Bikes just wheel in. Even moved a double mattress in one with no effort!

Don't care what you think, mine is 16 years old. Still does what it is supposed to do. Has everything you need ( including armrests ) and very little that you don't. JJ below sums it up but mine is a 2.0 petrol auto with massive 137bhp, still never managed to get the tyres to squeal - you need to be a special kind of moron to do that.

Nerd alert! To know what side your fuel cap is on look at your fuel gauge and it shows you a pump avatar, the side the pipe is on is the side your filler cap is on, the only EU regulation that was any use🤣🤣🤣
