Living in a truck 24/7 makes it hard to take care of your appearance. I notice when OTR drivers become local they start looking cleaner and maintained.

That goes both ways actually. Sometimes they work so much and the commute makes it upwards of 100+ hours a week. I've gone local and otr my whole life. Def had local jobs where I'd fall asleep in my uniform and wake up where I had to question being on time or take a shower

Thank you for the content and the story I know now that when I’m getting paired with a trainer I’m going to be very specific about what I can and can’t tolerate and also that I don’t want to be sitting around waiting for my trainer because he wants to be home all the time. That hygiene situation is my worst nightmare. This really tells me I have to be very diplomatic about my expectations for a trainer.

Wonderfully truthful video. As an employee, you are an ambassador for your industry. I’ve spent 30 years in a white collar world, interviewing hundreds of applicants and you tell much about a person by their presentation and presence. This is not to say you have to spend thousands on a wardrobe. Clean and presentable. I just passed my Class A skills test and considering exercising my newly gained license.

@@TheLivingFreedChannelactually, I think he made that up....... I watched the video and this guy has a disorder. If someone shook pee on other drivers the company would get every driver on the road calling to complain. Including highway patrol, and dot. No way that happened. I don't believe it. I bet they got in a fight about bad eating and dirty clothes and this guy started lieing so he didn't look bad in the company. Maybe the guy was gonna piss himself and peed behind the truck instead of a bathroom, and this guy started judging and it snowballed. This guy huffed too much bathroom cleaner.

I just got my cdl permit and Im on the road now with a trainer, there is some good and some bad! Let’s start with the good! He’s nice, friendly, and he has a lot of knowledge about the trucking world! And organized with the business aspect! He’s been a trucker for 13 years now! So far that’s all I have to say about the good! Now the bad! My birthday driving I had to stop because I had a bad headache, He had me sleep in the top bunk while driving! he’s very dirty! He doesn’t keep the truck clean, its very dusty, it’s cluttered, his bedding has not been washed in a long time! The sheets has a pee and Pooh Smell, he doesn’t wash his clothes he just takes a shower and put them back on! And I smell that! We’ve only ran through the pre-trip twice and my test is next week! So we are done for the day and I wanted to practice the test! And he got in bed and as I’m talking he’s told me he couldn’t hear me, I guess you can’t in the bunk?!😅 I’m just afraid now that it couldn’t potentially hurt me from passing! I would feel really upset. I don’t know what do please help

I used to be a trucker for about 6 months, I had an automated manual paccar 12 speed, it was a kenny t680, and I pulled a spread axle 53' trailer behind me. I will say with the utmost critical view on myself as a (former) trucker, I will say that I do use pee bottles, but ONLY for emergencies. And that I make sure to smuggle said pee bottles in to the bathroom so I can later drain them out and throw them away afterward. It disgusts me to see pee bottles tossed out and not even emptied out before hand, I used to be a janitor for walmart too and had I worked for any petro, pilot, ta or loves, and if I had to deal with piss bottles, I would've quit if I'm being honest. Or I'd ask my boss for a raise or "hazard pay" lol. Seriously though, even though I'm guilty of using a bottle to whiz in at all, I only do it for emergencies if I had too much coffee or if it's cold out, but even I will go through the effort to drain any whiz bottle after each use down the toilet before tossing it. That way no worker gets inadvertently R Kelly'd. Nobody wants pee on them, so lets agree to be civilized y'know? That aside, I hope I don't get judged if at all pardoned for this post. And also, I love this video and I want this to be an example of what truckers are supposed to be: Clean, professional, and curteous.

You think that's bad . My trainer had such a bad Temper everytime he was pissed at me he would wait until I was headed to the sleeper he would slam on the brakes. So in the first week I was thrown on the floor so the whole time my shoulder was hurting. I asked him why he stopped he said someone cut him off but when I looked there wasn't anyone within 30 yards. The second time that I know was on purpose he slammed the truck around when we were leaving a truck stop in the parking lot still. I was with him for 3 weeks and he never took a shower. Western Express ignored my request for a new trainer so I come to believe Western Express doesn't care about their employees. Another thing is the trainers in Western Express get paid for all the miles the trainee drives and their miles. So they only train to make more money with no incentive for actually training anyone.

There's no passion in the trucking industry anymore unfortunately. Hell I work a local job and we promise drivers 55+ hours a week all hourly which isn't true with the routes open so management tells them to milk it out. Don't work just sit around and get paid. Then when we have call offs we have no one to cover long routes bc we've told short routes just get paid to do nothing. Got 2 drivers who have 4-6 hour routes and they make it 9-10 hours and we can't ask them to do anything else bc they where told that's their job so why would they actually work 9-10 hour routes if they don't have too?

Few years ago was working at a frozen food production company. We had one driver come into the office and the front office lady had to call his company at 3am to cancel a load because it was not good. His sweat pants looked like they could stand on their own. Had chili stains n his hair looked like he has never washed it in weeks. Could smell the oder threw the closed window. He would never touch the freight but the image was not something to be desired. So they shut down the production line two hours early due to space and canceled his load. Have to be clean. Your basically living in a 76 inch box for 23 hours a day. With every commercial company fuels at pilot or loves which gives shower credits. Basically like what your trainiee said good hygiene = better productivity n most importantly your health.

If you let him just keep going along like nothing happened then he will keep going along like nothing happened. If you want trucking cleaned up, then you need to be willing be part of the process of getting scumbags fired.

That is a really horrible story about the previous trainer, and if that is a negative situation for you than I am glad you were able to get out of that situation . It is interesting to see that as somebody entering Trucking you are hoping to be able to stay clean. Oh on the road and always use a bathroom. I am noticing that you are someplace southwest , and wondering if you have ever done very much Trucking in the northeast . I live in Buffalo New York, area and have spent my entire 21 year career of driving trucks in the northeast. Mostly New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire. Maryland. And occasionally go to Chicago and back to New York again. A typical day for me is to go to New Jersey where it is not uncommon to spend 12 hours in a shippers parking lot trying to get unloaded , ( or sometimes asked to deliver 24 hours later ) due to “shortage of employees to unload my truck “ . Many of the places I go to in Jersey don’t allow truck drivers to use their bathrooms while they are waiting in the parking lot., and in fact, one of the places I go to which is a warehouse that ships things overseas ( either by container ship in the Elizabeth Seaport , or or a cargo plane on the opposite side of the Jersey turnpike from the Elizabeth international airport . And since Covid these places won’t even allow truck drivers to hand them a paper bill of laden. But instead your office has to email them a copy of the bill of lading and they are so busy that by time you get through the line to the receiving desk they have received so many emails that they can no longer find your email. And so you have to have somebody send it again while you’re standing directly in front of the person. All of this makes the waiting take so much longer than what maybe you are used to. And then once you are finally unloaded, and your Dispatcher has sent you backhaul information form a a nearby city , it is now 3:00in the afternoon , which around here, makes you sit in the traffic for hours until 5 o’clock in the afternoon traffic also begins. afternoon traffic doesn’t end until around 11 o’clock at night around here . And your backhaul that should’ve been 45 minutes away now becomes two hours away in gridlock traffic, and because it is a New Jersey, you don’t pass any place along the way, such as a rest area, or service plaza, or a truckstop to pull into . When you finally do make it to the shipper to pick up your back hall it is another place that does not allow truck drivers to use their bathrooms. You could sit in their parking lot for another two or three hours to get your back hall on. At which time you leave their warehouse (hopefully after 11 o’clock. ) and try to find someplace to park your truck on your way back home but around here all parking spots fill up by 3:00 or 5:00 , and I often have to drive through Pennsylvania on the way home to try to find someplace to go to the bathroom there in hopes of being able to park on the diesel island long enough to do so . And then continuing on my way, because there is no place to park and finding someplace on a shoulder to eventually park. It is not uncommon for me on a daily basis to have to hold my “ sit down bathroom “ for 12 hours or more from the time when I noticed I really have to go . Which is something my wife who is formerly and nursing tells me it’s not healthy for me. The older I get the harder I find it for me to be able to hold it that long and I have discovered a wonderful thing called a 5 gallon bathroom bucket which I know Carie with me and my truck has a lot of truck drivers in the north east have develop their own clever ways of relieving themselves along the trip, and in case they are stuck in traffic for several hours .

I guess you could probably say that around here. It has been my experience that most employers are assuming that you’re not going to end your day at a truckstop, and that you have equipped your truck in a way that you will be able to perform your job throughout the week without the need to stop at a truckstop other than to get fuel and then continue on your way after fueling
