Episode 20: In this episode of Steady at the Wheel, we are talking with two old school OTR truckers. With trucking in the 80s and cabover trucks as their starting point, they share trucking horror stories and adventures from years ago when trucking was a much different experience. The shared trucking tales of a trucker owner operator , trucking mentor, and trucking rookie are almost to good to be true.
If you are a trucker, interested in trucking history, or just like to sit down and listen to tales of the road, this video is sure to entertain.

    It's nice to hear from guys from back in my day, I started driving in 1963, and still have my CDL and move specialized machinery all over the country. I'm originally from Texas which is where I started, My first truck was a D model Mack truck with a 5X4 transmission.

    You need to do another of these. They are great. I am 80 so I remember the old livestock haulers. I still drive 5 over but when I see a bull hauler in my rear-view mirror I pull over because I know they are doing 15 over. especially between Bridgeport and Chadron.

    I live above you guys in Alberta. Love driving through the hot sweltering southern lands of Montana. Great to hear stories about local life. You have beautiful country down there.     This was amazing. I’m a fourth generation owner/operator. I wish I had the stories my dad, grandpa, and my late great grandfather had. Just like your dad and his buddies. I consider myself so lucky to have grown up around truckers from this generation.

    Awesome story's guys! Brought back some great memories for me. I stopped hauling hogs and cattle back in 1990. I started in 1977 pulling a hopper, and a little drop deck from time to time. I kept trucking till 2015. I was blessed to truck the whole us, and most of Canada. I look forward to a lot more of these! Thanks to all of you!

    @@steadyatthewheel I was a truck driver now I have my own company but just got my code 95 35 hour study’s so I can legally drive as a professional truck driver if I want (it’s like the cdl thing if I have the name correct)

    It's amazing that you're dad and Bill survived trucking back then. I'm sure there's been a few times they shouldn't of survived. Awesome video. Poor Stoney such abuse, is he the one that's a lawyer now? 🚛🚛🚛

    Man forgot your clothes I feel ya👊 brings back some bad memories of my mom forgetting to put my clothes in my suitcase before dropping me off at school to go to science camp and she forgot all my clothes in the dryer 😅 so uh I had to finish the week out with just the clothes on my back and I will never forget my class mate Jeremy gave me a pair of sweats and a shirt so at least I had two outfits for the week boy was I screwed up and so embarrassed I ate alon after everyone else ate and didn't go to any of the events. I called home for her but long story short her voices told her she couldn't drive that far alone so I'll just have to deal with it🤯 boy did that build some confidence lol 6th grade was the last time she touched my laundry 👊🤣😎

    Russ is Billy Jack's younger brother. I think it was mentioned, but quickly. There was so many stories in here that came fairly quickly that we are planning on a couple episodes to go back through this episode and provide some context and further information about things. Who Russ is is a great example.

    Also, Rooster's name is Russ. Bit confusing because there were two Russ's referenced in the podcast. The only time Billy Jack's brother Russ is mentioned is the story about drying off with the stained towel. All other references to Russ is Rooster.

    This was hilarious, I loved the stories. Drove for West Best long time ago, so I know the Lolo Pass and Hiway 12 route really well over to Lewiston, Id. Back Hauled grain into Lewiston in double dry vans with small side doors for loading. Ask Rooster or Billy Jack, or yourself Jaxson did you ever run into a guy named Ernie Kellogg? Ernie being an old bull hauler, I don't think this guy knew what sleep was, one of the hardest running drivers I ever met.

    Anyone ever heard bout that trucker that had a pet monkey in his truck nd one day he pulled up to rest stop... n this dog was barking at his truck with its owner n the driver said sir you better get that dog... guy said noo.. driver opened door n monkey ripped dog faces legs right off .
