I’m a trainer with Werner and I must say all my students have a good time with me. And even after they graduate and get off my truck they still call me and check on me. One thing that I just say is I’m on a dedicated account for Ollie’s bargain outlet so I only travel NC,SC,FL,AL,TN, and GA.. the longest my students have to drive is about 7 or 8 hours then the truck shuts down every night for 10-15 hours … so we never have to team drive and we both get our sleep at night, I’m sorry you had that experience at Werner some trainers are only about making extra money. For me I’m training because it’s what I love to do, I’m basically making the same amount of money as a solo driver but to me it’s not about the money it’s about training these new generation of drivers to drive right

I agree! Now, multiple showers per day might be unrealistic for an OTR driver, but there is nothing stopping them from accessing showers at least semi-regularly, with touch-up bird baths in the truck. She had bad hygiene because she chose to. It seems like she skipped stops wanting to get the maximum numbers of miles in to pad her paycheck. This is an individual decision, but she should not have expected any trainee to want the same thing. The fact that she set it up as team driving further validates this. Trainees are there for 1 on 1 training, with the driver watching at all times, not team driving to pad miles.

I had a great trainer. We were both about 50. He had been with the company for years. Knew all the ins and outs. The company wanted us to run 24/7. That was never going to happen. No matter what! The day was over at 5pm. He knew every bar, restaurant in the country. I had my CDL already. That makes a huge difference. I didn't owe them a dime. We had a blast. Still using paper logs. He taught me how to run 2 books at a time. I drove most of the time. I liked it that way. Saw the whole country. If he didn't like where they told us to go he turned the load down. He didn't care. In a few minutes another choice became available. He only took real long runs. None of those short runs. He always said to tell them no to short runs. Most mornings I got up a 4am and we took off. He would sleep till around 10am. It was a great time. Electronic logs killed it for me. I went local.

Trainees should be able to evaluate the trainer and weigh in on whether they continue to train/mentor future students.

That was absolutely awful. Werner was ultimately responsible for all that you endured. You could have easily had personal lawsuit against them. Starting with the safety issue of the trainer having you to sleep on the top bunk while the truck was in motion. And lastly leaving you in the middle of nowhere for hours and hours stranded. And that's why they didn't debate with you concerning a flight. They probably terminated that trainer because she was a liability. Take care

That's horrible I just completed my over the road training with my trainer at Hirschbach. They do not allow you to do team driving while in training. While the truck is moving both trainer and trainee are awake and they both sleep at the same time. But I will say that the trainiee does most of the driving simply because the completion of training is based on how many hours you drive. So the trainer will drive if you request it but the more time that hes driving, the more time you'll end up in the truck because you won't get your drive hours as fast. You always do your 10 hour rest at a truck stop so you can shower daily and also when the trainer takes his off time they put you in a motel. The one thing that I didn't like about it is that I came in with experience already but because I didn't have (over the road) experience they made me go to the training course anyway

If your "trainer" sees you only as a extra pay check, and uses you as a team driver GTF out. Trainer should be in the passenger seat training, if you're team driving the trainer ain't doing shit but sleeping when you drive. This is also an issue of the company, the company should be looking and seeing the driver running out their 72 hours too. But companies don't give a shit.

These trainers will wait until you are in the middle of nowhere and they will kick you to the curb. Don’t go to Prime Inc. They are terrible also. He got upset and called safety and told them he put it on and didn't know it didn't work until I told him. He had 30 hours in with a another trainer. safety told me to drop him off. He said his scholl told him to do that. Well , I knew you didn't do that even before I went to school. I also don't believe you should go on you tube to compalin about your trainer. If you are still employed by any company. i also had a 2nd trainee who went down a no truck street. Found out he a ticket in Ca for the same thing. The first trainee I almost just dropped him at a truck stop for him being unsafe. He said I couldn't do that. Well yes I could of. Bus drivers can if passenger is acting out and bothering the peopel and the bus driver. Same rule. Trainer actually only has to drop trainee of at a safe place if their unsafe driving by law.. Then call local law enforcement to let them know. Trainee's sometimes get too cocky also.

Good job. You took care of yourself. Seriously you can do better in life. Keep your day job f-ck OTR and look for your real calling. Trust me it is NOT trucking. You have a voice and a purpose. Get paid for now in your current job, rethink your life strategy and move on. Sure you could be a good at whatever you do and I am positive you are a good driver, and would be a good safe trucker, but why? It is not for everyone. I dont know you though. Trust your gut, and plan for your future. Don't waste your life or your true gifts whatever they are. Maybe this happened for a reason. There are alot of abusive people out there not just in trucking. Trucking is an easy place for them to land though and abuse others. It is a very distorted power balance. A real set up for sociopaths and psychopaths to play in when you are trapped in a cab with them. So be safe, be wise and think twice about your future. There are lots of great men and women in trucking too, you could be one of them. But if it's not your calling get out.

That’s why the young drivers can’t drive how do you get 28 days of training back in the 90s we had to have six months of training approved with a trainer before you get your own truck. Not a putting them out here in 28 days that’s why they can’t drive and they can’t drive manual trucks not enough training

Lol 😂 agreed cause I was not ready by the time I left Werner ,after I left there I got 3 months of training with my new job . So with Wenrner and more new job I got 5 months of training . However I can’t drive manual more so cause schools was saying we no longer needed it . I drive in the snow daily where I live so I learned a lot within those months, and I’m still learning with time.

Listen and listen good. You will never make money working for people. Get the money together get your own mc and dot# own insurance. And get on load board. First few months are tuff but you will make it. You can find a good truck for 15 to 20k. Even if it's a day cab make it work. You got this. Don't give up. Worst case you will have to make a few bucks on the side at truck stops but 20 is 20 u fell. 😛
