Truck Camping in a Rainstorm / Campfire Cooking in Heavy Rain
Ойын-сауық
This was my first Boondocking trip of 2023! The weather is finally getting nice, and the roads are open in the Chippewa National Forest. I knew going into the weekend that a rainstorm would be passing through, but I didn't expect it to last as long as it did. By Sunday morning I was worried that I wasn't going to make it out of the forest. My fears almost came true when I took the shoulder to avoid a downed tree. My rear driver tire sunk into the mud and I was being sucked into ditch. Thankfully the truck camper held course and made it out of the forest to camp another day. I want to thank everyone who takes the time to follow along on my weekend adventures. I appreciate you! I'll see you again next week.

@@KennyOfAllTrades you too my friend
Great video! Since you keep the generator out front, why not keep and electric heater as a back up, or one of those small self contained propane fueled heaters? Just enough to get the chill off could make a nice difference inside. I could see a setup like yours in my future.
@KennyOfAllTrades

Great question! I usually keep a small electric heater in the camper. It does an awesome job. It has kept the camper warm down to -20 as long as it not windy. It just so happens that I ran out of propane at the house to a few days earlier. I took the heater out of the camper and into the house. I never got it put back.
Cozy, picturesque, and nature to burn. It’s perfect. And I hate camping! But you know how to do it right!

In winter I prefer to drain the water lines, then keep a little heat going in the camper during cold snaps. Usually about 50-55 will do. I really hate to let it freeze solid overnight, then the sun pop up on it in the morning. I also keep 4 bottles of gas... never want to run out.
@KennyOfAllTrades

I hear you. That would be nice. In Minnesota, we have cold snaps where the high temps reach -20 and lows -45. It's an expensive task to keep heat on. When I go camping in those cold snaps, I go through a 20-pound tank of propane every day. Thankfully, we have had a mild winter . I only have a few videos of it being 20 to 30 degrees below this year.

I've had a few strange experiences in the north woods. Recently, near Hill City and Northome. First, I had two small pebbles thrown at me while walking through a field. I just finished flying the drone, so I know I was completely alone. Another time, I heard two whooping calls that I've never heard before. It wasn't loud. Instead, It was a super low frequency that made my insides vibrate. They were both strange experiences. I've lived up here my entire life and have been exploring these forests ever since I could drive a four-wheeler. I've never felt uncomfortable in the woods, even when unexplainable things happen. Now, walking through Walmart, I've seen and experienced situations that made me uncomfortable. Lol

I'm not sure why I didn't toss in a line? It may have been the time of year. Ice out went quick this spring. And I might not have been carrying the rod. Or, I'll be honest, I'm a forgetful person. Sometimes, I get home from work on Friday night, and I jump into the camper so I can start the video right away. (I'm always pressed for time) I have driven 3 hours before realizing I left the laptop and camera at home. I'm sure the long-time viewers can attest that I'm not a professional outdoorsman, sportsman, RV channel, or KZreadr. I'm just a guy who enjoys getting away from civilization on Saturdays and Sundays. I carry the camera in hopes that maybe one day KZread will cover at least half of the fuel bill to find these remote locations.

Thanks Shane
Great video Kenny! Need to get a Mopeka LP tank sensor. You won’t go empty again, unless you forget to check. That is why I made a checklist for when I leave the house, I have one for leaving an overnight Campground and I have one for coming back home for the last time. Though that will change in 6 yrs when I retire. I will go full time, no wife in tow, just visits. I have those same problems with beavers, just not the same context I am sure. LOL!

😆 I'll definitely look into the sensors. I'm on the same retirement plan as you. I got 7 years before I could pull off of the pension. Until then, I live for the weekends. After two years of camping every weekend, you would think i wouldn't be forgetting the small things. Maybe this KZread channel will take off, and I won't keep this crazy schedule. I don't know if I can do 7 more years of working a Monday through Friday Job and recording a travel video every weekend. My plan is to live in the camper full-time as well. Thanks for watching Todd.
Still here watching you, Kenny, just haven't commented in a while. We decided to keep our truck and order a new AF1140. I think watching your videos made our mind up to go for it! This week's location was outstanding! With all the meat roasting over the fire, have you gone Carnivore style eating? Watching your videos ALWAYS makes me hungry! Have a great week!

That's awesome to hear! I love traveling in the Arctic Fox. I don't have a specific diet. I will come clean tonight.....Im a sugar addict. I love chocolate, pastries, carbs. I recognize my struggles, though, and if I stay away from sugar, the craving stops. The only food I love more than carbs is meat! So the last few months I have only been eating meat and dairy. The only thing I can't get rid of is hazelnut creamer. If I call what I'm doing a diet I will fail.....so I've been enjoying really delicious meat for the last few months. On the positive side I've lost 30 pounds!

@@KennyOfAllTrades Way to go, Kenny! I thought you were looking slim and trim! I'm doing alternate day fasting along with Keto, staying under 20 carbs on eating days. Like you, I eat a lot of meat, cheese, etc., and veggies, too, lost 25 pounds in two months and I'm definitely older than you. I'm going to have to go back through your earlier videos and search out those Mandi keto recipes that looked so wonderful!
Kenny, you pick a beautiful spot. Too bad the weather didn’t cooperate. I enjoy watching you grill all the time. Your are serious grill master.🍗🥓👍🏼

Hello from the sunny Ozarks Kenny! Another video of value! tight lines and bent rods!
Great videos. Agree on the campfires. Lol. I’d go over bumps and hole on those dirt roads a lot slower ! Always carry a spare propane..
