Triumph Bonneville T120 Black Test Ride

Ойын-сауық

My thoughts on the new Triumph Bonneville T120 Black edition.
I've been looking forward to having a go on one of these since first seeing the photos back when the Street Twin was launched.

    Just got my 23 T120 3 weeks ago. 600 miles on it now. Quite an incredible bike. I will say.... i wish it had a bit more power. I mean i know I couldve gone with the Speed Twin. And I VERY much considered it. But i ride with my wife a lot, and i have a neck disc issue. So the T120 most definitely fits my needs better and I dont regret it. I came from a 2019 Street Twin and while there is indeed more power, it doesnt FEEL all that much more powerful than the Street Twin. I had snorkel removed, K&N filter and an some minor adjustments to the fuel mapping done with ECU Tune so the ST was SLIGHTLY more peppy than stock. I digress... the young buck in me wants the comfort, but also the GOOOOOOOOO. lol i suppose Ill just have to buy another bike and add to the stable later on. Either gonna be a Speed Twin or a Z900RS.

    +Skeggy Cruiser It was a great ride, good for a cruise that's for sure. Considering Skegness is a popular biker spot, you would have thought there would be more dealerships in that area. Yeh, it would be harder to keep looking clean, not to mention the spoked wheels, but I think I could put up with that if it means I owned one of these.

    I never use the kill switch to stop the engine just the key - using it is supposed to upset the electrics on some bikes. Thanks for a great review. I had the old Bonneville pre 900cc engine. The vibrations through the handlebars were not nice. After an hour I would have pins and needles. Particularly noticeable at motorway speed. Have you noticed vibrations with the new Bonneville 900 or 1200. I understand that the 900 vibrates at around 70-75mph and in all gears at 3300 ish revs. Thanks, Lee

    would this bike handle light dirt roads? Looking to buy a new bike (new rider) and I love the looks of this bike. great reviews!! also looking at bmw 700gs. any advice?

  • @Phil480

    @Phil480

    7 жыл бұрын

    If you were looking at something for light dirt, either the Scrambler (I own one now), Tiger 800 XCx or the BMW 700/800GS, even Suzuki V-Strom or Kawasaki Versys would be more suited as they have more ground clearance, and some of those will come with more suitable tyres. They should do for light off-roading, however they are all quite weighty, so picking one up on a loose or muddy surface may be difficult. On the tarmac, they all do very well and would be plenty of bike for a new rider. I do have test ride videos of the Tiger, Scrambler, 650 V-Strom and F700GS in this playlist: kzread.info/head/PLrGCzri67ZXdmbvgn0vtv-5-PsVjGLN7o

    Hi Phil, Very interesting reviews ---> Both T100 and T120, but would appreciate if you could consolidate and compare your experience with both these machines. And your personal preferences.. Good work. And all the Best

  • @Phil480

    @Phil480

    7 жыл бұрын

    Personally, I prefer the T120, mainly because of the better performance, and you get heated grips as standard as well as the road/rain modes. Also brakes are better having twin front discs. Otherwise, they are both very similar, they have the same frame and they both benefit from the 10k mile servicing interval. The big question is, is it worth the £1500 price difference?

    As a small rider (I'm ~5'3" w/ 28" inseam) can I comfortably ride this or street twin as a beginner especially in city traffic? Also how is for highway cruising (including street twin)? Thanks in advance.

  • @Phil480

    @Phil480

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Rising Cookie you're about the same height as me, you won't have a problem with the street twin, and shouldn't have trouble on the T120. I'd say street twin is better for city riding, as it is quite small and lightweight. Both should handle highway cruising fine. My only concern would be wind buffeting but I found the T120 seems to cut through wind resistance quite well for a naked bike. I didn't really get much chance to try constant high speeds on the street twin. Of course you can get the aftermarket screens for both which should help either way. Hope that helps. Also, if you haven't done already you can check out Captain Rambunctious, he has done reviews on both of these and many more Triumphs. He may have covered something I haven't.

  • @unap16

    @unap16

    Hello again. Thanks for the informative response. I am actually a subscriber of the Captain but given your height (and reach), I believe yours are more relevant to my interests. Frankly, there aren't very many short male riders (around our height) especially those who also are involved in vlogging such as thyself. I will be learning to ride motorbikes next year and subsequently am looking to get something fun and accessible. I have considered the Vulcan S but I am also in love with the retro looks and lean angles these classic street bikes provide. Given the Twin's seat height is at 750mm (with an even lower seat available), I want to know whether touching the ground with both feet was possible for you.

  • @Phil480

    @Phil480

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Chris Hill Not really. The Street Twin has the new High Torque engine unlike the Scrambler. I'm pretty sure the engine in the Scrambler is air cooled, unlike the liquid cooled Street Twin. Also, the Scrambler doesn't have the modern ride by wire throttle and ABS like the Street Twin. Of course, there is a "Scrambler" version of the Street Twin with the high level pipes etc, which would give the best of both worlds.

    Depends on your experience. If you’re sensible and have at least ridden smaller bikes before, it would be fine, id probably recommend keeping it in rain mode to start with so it’s got that slight reduction in power. Insurance might not be cheap on a 1200cc first bike though.

    I would recommend the T100 or Street Twin as a first bike in the Triumph range, but if you're sensible you should do fine on the T120 providing you can handle the weight of it. They're dead easy to ride, but also quite torquey, so as long as you're smooth putting the power on then you should be okay. Hope that helps.

    Up to and during Queen VIctoria the right side of the Road to drive on was proper. It was when the Labour Party got control of the Governement that it was switched over to the Left side.just saying haha

    Ridiculous dealership expensive service for major tune up. Chain drive instead of belt drive. Dirty and expensive. Shim under bucket valve adjustment is a money 🤑💰 maker for the dealers. Warranty claims as well as downtime waiting for parts. Expensive and heavy 🪨.Not made in England.
