Thank You for posting this very helpful video FrugalRepair! Got the dreaded 8 blink message a few weeks ago. I found your video and went ahead and ordered the capacitors . The arrived yesterday and just completed the fix in about 90 min, going slow. Followed the steps with no issues. TV is back up and running great!!! Thanks again!

Hello I watched the video it was very helpful but I have a Panasonic tv ( TX- P65VT20 B ) that while I want to turn it on the light is blinking a few time to get on and when I am watching normal TV channels after every 10 or 20 minutes It will shut down and then it’s turning on after few seconds also when I am using Netflix or another on Freesat this happened but after turn it on it will go to the freeview channel and I have to change it to the HDMI again ! Is there any advice please let me know Many thanks

My 42 panasonic plasma doesn’t turns on if I don’t cut the main power for a day or two! Any help?

Put it on lowest clutch setting, it is actually the safest way. It’s also the best way to put screws into the plastic bezel.

How do you diagnose problems? I've watched a couple of your videos that show you replacing a specific part. In this video it was obvious that the capacitors were a problem just by their appearance. In the other video you replaced a specific transistor in a specific TV model for "less than a dollar". How did you know to replace that transistor?

Thanks for checking out my videos! Actually I’m almost finished writing a guide with some of my diagnosing tips I use. I hope that will be helpful for folks. I’ll have it on my website. When there are specific components that go bad it’s often because of a common fault and there is info somewhere online. I can trace bad parts down but that can take a while. Let me know if you have any more questions.

There is a lot of information and videos online about how to do it. You basically want to use a load (resistor of some kind). Then use your multimeter to check.

I bought this tv for cheap. Works good but it seems someone at some point spilled something on it & there's a resedue inside the screen. How do I open up just the front to clean the backside of the plexiglass screen?

This same plasma tv model? I don’t think you can easily remove the glass. I don’t have the TV anymore so I can’t check. I know how to do that with LCD’s if you happen to have a different model. Next time I work on a plasma I’ll consider checking on that.

I noticed an extra spot for another cap. If you installed another cap would the extra reduce the load on the others and help them last longer? Or was the failure due to crappy caps? Could caps with a higher voltage rating inprove the life?

You wouldn't want to install another cap. The extra space is probably there because of a change after the board was designed, it has something to do with testing, or they made it that way to accommodate different versions of the board. I think you are correct that the bad caps are the problem.

I have a panasonic tcp55st50 that is giving the 8 red light code, would that be the ss board code for this model?

Sorry, I don’t know what that code means on your model. You need to hunt around online to find it.

panasonic 55" led tv ( th - 55ex600k) . when power on its turn green few second & green become blink few second & turn red blink many time .blink red dosent stop. Why ?

I don’t know. That blinking might represent a code that indicates what the TV thinks the issue is. Probably a short circuit somewhere.

You can’t purchase replacement screens generally, no one sells them.

I'm sorry but I don't know what that code means on your model. You'd have to research it or open up the back and start doing some diagnostic checking.

Thank you so much for this post! I bought this TV in 2011 and it's been my favorite TV ever. The 8 blink issue happened in the Fall last year and your video helped me extend its life. Now, I am dealing with an electronic buzzing sound that is coming from the lowest capacitor on that SS board. When I put a little pressure on it, the buzzing subsides. I'm guessing I could just replace the capacitor and the problem would be solved. If that's the case, do you know which capacitor to get and can I order it on eBay?

@@FrugalRepair thanks. I loved doing the fix. I was into that as a youngster and got away from it. You step by step walkthrough made me feel pretty good. So, if you look at the second photo on your blog post of the SS board. It's the blue capacitor furthest to the right.

Thanks. Unfortunately, I no longer have the TV or access to the board so I can’t see what the printing is on the side. But it looks like a film capacitor, just like the other ones.

@@FrugalRepair Oh okay. I actually had the same thought and I believe I have extra capacitors from the first project. I'm going to look for them. Also, I ordered another TV (LG C9 OLED) because COVID-19 has made it clear I cannot live with just one, older TV. I do plan on trying to fix the Panasonic Viera Plasma once I have the new TV. When I remove the capacitor, I'll come back and confirm the capacitor. Thanks and have a great Memorial Weekend!

Ok, just try to make sure the specs will not be too different to cause an issue. They may both be film caps but have diff values. Have a great weekend!

How do you dissipate the capacitor, say if my tv just went out?

You could use a resistor, or a light bulb, etc for that.

What if some of the flex cable from a plasma panel have ripped? It's not replacable because its glue to the screen and unless having expensive equipments and a lot of experience its seems unfixable. :( I wanted to fix my girlfriend tv. (Panasonic Vierra 2012 tc-p50u50). The ones going in the S boards on the side. (orange brown)

Hi Hector, it has been a while since I worked on this model. What does the documentation say that the 6 blink error is caused by? Also, have you searched for a flowchart by panasonic that is out there that helps you diagnose the bad board?

You realistically can't replace the screen if is cracked.

@William Surprenant I don't think so. A line in a plasma, I'd usually suspect the connection from the tabs on the side or bottom. There are videos about this online. Different colors, not sure without testing it. I'd suspect the Y-sus or X-sus board but that is a guess. There is probably information online for that model and that issue.

Don't know. You need to give more details. But if all of the hdmi ports are bad you may have a bad hdmi chip.

I like watching your videos just for the entertainment value, but I have to say I cringe when you use an electric drill to install the screws. That's just asking for a cracked circuit board.

I'm glad you like the videos! No need to cringe! If you have a drill driver with a clutch set it on the lowest torque setting, you'll never crack anything on a tv.
