Train Hopping in Morocco: Casablanca to Moulay Idriss via Rabat

We embark on a thrilling train-hopping adventure through Morocco in today's captivating travel vlog. Join me as we dive into day 1 of our Intrepid tour, starting our journey in the vibrant city of Casablanca and venturing to Gare Rabat Ville on the commuter service.
Our first stop takes us to Rabat, Morocco, where we spend a few hours immersing ourselves in its colourful atmosphere. We explore the lively Rabat Central Market, wander through the bustling Rabat Medina, and marvel at the architectural wonders of the Kasbah of the Udayas, also known as the Rabat Kasbah. We satisfy our taste buds with a delectable traditional Moroccan chicken and lemon tajine-an authentic culinary delight.
After our adventures in Rabat, we hop back onto the train, braving the crowds of the second-class carriage to reach our reserved seats as we make our way to Meknes. From there, we continue our journey in Grande Taxis, whisking us away to the enchanting town of Moulay Idriss, Morocco. Witness the unique sight of donkeys transporting our luggage through streets that cars cannot navigate. With our belongings safely stowed at the Riad, we dash through the winding alleys, reaching a breath taking viewpoint just in time to witness a mesmerizing sunset painting the city in hues of gold.
Our exploration of Moulay Idriss offers glimpses into the local way of life. Visit an authentic Moroccan bakery, known as an 'oven,' where locals bring their dough to be expertly baked. Admire the grandeur of the Moulay Idriss Mosque (زيارة الضريح ملاي دريس زرهوني) from its exterior, marveling at its architectural magnificence.

    Would love to know your thoughts on small group tours like the one we've just began here. All for them, all about solo, like to swap and change like us, or open to the concept?

    We're usually ones to go it solo. But, in a new country or where there's a significant language barrier, we'll often take a small group tour to help us figure out future navigation in the area.

    Yes Volubilis & My Driss are situated between Sidi Kacem and Meknes, the closest town to My Driss is the ONCF rail station Oued Rommane but fast Intercity trains do not stop there anyway the fastest way to get to Volubis could be Casablanca Voyageur Intercity ride untill Sidi Kacem 2h15 and taxi SidiKacem-MyDriss rather than from Meknes

    Cool video, never been to Moulay Idriss but it seems cool, I think it is close to Volubilis (the remnant of an ancien Berber city with a lot of Roman style ruins). As for the police and army officers next to Rabat Ville stations it wouldn't have been illegal to film there as long of course as you are not specifically filming them, the Moroccan Parliament is right next to the station so that's why there is high security there

  • @WhenAdventureKnox

    @WhenAdventureKnox

    Жыл бұрын

    Very good point about the filming being okay just so long as they weren't in shot... the only problem was there was a demonstration happening in that area, so police and army officials were everywhere I looked so not wanting to chance getting myself arrested, I popped the camera away and waited until we were well away from the area. You're right to say Moulay Idriss is close to Volubilis. That will be next weeks video, it was maybe 10 minutes in a taxi from the guesthouse we stayed in.

    How are you doing mrs Caroline. Thank you for sharing your trips with us with every new viedo you post I learn new information, explore new places, learn new vocabularies. Commuter train means train that people use to get it from work . Commuter is person who travels long distance to work every day . Train hopping means using subway and walking from one subway to another at arrival of station . Moulay idris is town in Meknes city in northern Morocco spread over two hills as base of mount Zerhoun. It’s famous for being site or tomb of idris , first major Islamic ruler . In late 8 th century Moulay idris left Mecca at Saudi Arabia to escape Baghdad based Abbsid caliphate he fled away in Morocco where he settled and spread religion of Islam . Idriss is great grand son of Hassan who son of Fatima and Ali and grand son of prophet Muhammad. Hi Khatoon, I am well thank you, I hope you are too. I never knew this part of the history behind Moulay Idriss, it's been a very interesting read. Did you research this or was it something you already knew? 'Commuting' in London is a big thing as homes in central London are mostly unaffordable so people live further out and commute in by train, tube or bus. It's spreading to other parts of the UK too sadly. Is it something people do in Saudi Arabia or do most people live close to where they work?

Looks The food does look soooo good out there! Looks like a busy day for you all, especially as you were carrying all those bags around - that town on the hill as you were in the taxi looked incredible - was that Moulay Idriss?
