Tragic Details About Patty Duke

Ойын-сауық

There are not many actors in Hollywood that can claim to have a career that has spanned over half a century. It’s a rarity and as we all know, stars come and go in Hollywood. But acclaimed actress Patty Duke had a storied acting career which has garnered her an Academy Award and three Primetime Emmy Awards.
Her most memorable performance was playing Hellen Keller in the 1962 film The Miracle Worker for which she won an Academy Award at just 15 years of age.
But Duke is also known for devoting much of her time away from acting to advocate and educate the public about mental health. The actor was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 1982 and besides that, here are more tragic details about Patty Duke.

I grew up in a home of meth addicts that were extremely abusive and I raised my little brother since he was born. I remember always trying to educate him on mental illnesses and show him this is an illness not the person. I am so happy I did because now we both love people for everything the good and bad and have a better understanding of why things were the way they were. He is now a firefighter and volunteers regularly at a facility for long term care of people with mental illnesses. I'm glad that even tho it broke a family apart we can better ourselves and help more people.

People are really, really weird.... Almost everyone I met when I worked in Hollywood had serious, diagnosable issues, they all congregated where nuts out there behavior was tolerated and often, applauded. People were constantly seeing what they could get away with, and there was no ceiling... The most disgusting actions would be loudly approved of as, "so honest!", "He's really exploring his boundaries" (yeah Harvey, you sure did!), and, "What a character!".... People could act out but were highly enraged if anyone PROTESTED being grabbed, forced to drink or do drugs, or didn't want to sleep with some man or woman who made it a hiring requirement. Every single person you see as a huge star today, spent time as a rent boy or girl. Its heartbreaking...

In 1964 I had a little crush on Patty. I liked her show, though I thought that her doing Cathy was unnecessary. I was right. In 1965 Lost In Space came on CBS opposite Pattys show. Hmmmm... Judy Robinson: slim, blonde, sweet Judy! I watched Lost in Space but I switched back to Patty’s show here and there then... bye Patty. Bye. Never missed Cathy. Patty got canceled.
