I absolutely loved Patty Duke from the first time I saw her performance in The Miracle Worker~~Then I started watching The Patty Duke Show which made my horrible days as a 14 year old that made me smile and laugh~~When I heard of her illness my heart broke~~It seems like these type of illnesses happen to good people~~My God I ask why???...I prayed for her like I did other people who also suffered from this horrible disorder~~I will always love her~~I've seen all her movies and she was simple amazing and one of my all time favorite actresses~~Also when I found out that Sean was her son and watched his movies I fell in love with him as well~~Great actor~~My favorite was "Encino Man"~~I still watch reruns of both Patty and her son's movies~~They will always be my favorites~~God Bless Patty's family, (Sean) and I know you are doing just fine Patty, because now you are with our Dear Lord~~I WILL NEVER FORGET YA'LL~~God Bless you Sean and your family~~Love you all~~R.I.P. Dear Patty~~

Very touching and moving. I wrote Margot Kidder and she answered me a month before her breakdown with fierce words of survival and self love and acceptance that was powerful enough to snap me out of suicidal despair. Her, Carrie Fisher, and Patty Duke gave me role models on dealing with major depressive disorder as well as hope. That they died rather early was a major blow and sense of loss. I've learned to find the strength within myself. Some days are hard and I miss there example, survival, and presence in this world. But, I realize I'm stronger than I thought I was. I hope it doesn't overtake me in the end as it did for Kidder, but for now I refer to their wisdom and wit to get me through.

I as a young child / girl will never forget the Patty Duke t.v. show . We knew she played a double as her cousin Cathy . We , my sistet's and I , love their introduction song . Well their counsin , they walk alike , talk alike , sometimes they even look alike . Patty wore her hair in a flip at the end and Cathy wore her hair curled under . And myself and sisters would copy Patty and cousin Cathy's hair styles . To me Patty Duke was a very serious person , she talk more and her cousin Cathy was quite . She didn't talk as much as Patty . Overall , we as young girls my sisters loved Patty Duke , we were glued to the black and white t.v. screen .

I met sean astin last may at the Mississippi comic con. He was the only reason i went. I have been a die hard fam of lotr since i was 7 when they came out. As an adult i see who the true hero of lotr is. Its sam. Ultimately would not have happened without his loyalty to frodo and frodos task. Its exclames tolkiens story telling. The dutiful servant but way beyond that. It's love and respect to finish his masters task. The only reason i am watching this rn is because i am back on my little house kick but bad this time. Everything that era and i had heard of the show with Patty and mellisa (half pint) but just watched it today. i immediately got into her performance. I see where sean gets his genius no matter her problems she was brilliant im sure the love was there. 😊 i am a new fan to patty. I knew i knew the name for some reason. I thought my mom. Shes 59. But was sean talking about her s I think. It was not until I watched this that I realized. How connected all the shows I love actually are. At 29 😅

Patti duke was so lucky to have had such loving boys. But of course, she also had tragicties. Her book moved me profoundly. I have never seen such incredable acting as hers in the miracle worker. It remains unsurpassed to this day. Her countinued beauty was mirrored in her lovely eyes. I cried when sean and her cried at the end. Could they really have had such a close relationship? What was their secret? Maybe sean is right. Maybe going through the hard times, and sticking through them made them appreciate what they later shared.😂🤩💝

Sorry, bit you can't speak for everyone's experiences. My mother was a clinically deppressed alcoholic who was vicious, volatile, mentally and physically abusive when she drank. Throughout my childhood, I survived many beatings from her. Once, when she was drunk & going off on one of her rampages, she came into my room to beat me & I hid under the bed. She flipped the entire mattress/box spring off the bed frame to get at me underneath. Another time, she was getting ready to beat me & I hid in my closet (for some reason the closet locked from the inside) & she to get at me, she went & got a hammer & was using it to smash holes in the closet door to get to me. It was like a Hitchcock movie. Finally, my sister called my dad on the phone & she brought the phone over to my mother & he talked sher down from her rage, as he often did and got her to stop. Every morning before school, I used to have to hide any possessions of mine that I cared about in spots around the house or just take them to school along with me, because if I left them at home in plain sight, when I'd get home from school I'd come back to find them either destroyed or she's hold them hostage Despite all of this violent, abusive, unpredictable behavior, like Sean Astin, I remained level headed about my situation. I never hated, resented or blamed my mother. Instead, I had great compassion, understanding & sympathy for her condition & for the horrible childhood that was at the root of her misery. I understood that she was a tormented soul and that she didn't mean the things she did and said.

He also does with desi. In fact, before more testing, i would have sworn he was his son. In fact, he really looks like desi,s father.

9:17 I don't know what I feel about his comment "there's something in me, I take credit for this..." - I'm not settled on whether he was bragging or stating a fact, but I was a bit ill at ease listening to that.

I kinda agree with you. His whole interview was leaning much more toward arrogance than humility, though I do think there is some humility in his outlook. It was a little off putting. There is a fine line between humility and arrogance and I think Sean is a little too proud of how he survived his mother's mental issues. He does seem to think that he is a huge emotional rock, and maybe he is, but it was offputting nonetheless.

Maybe he looks at it that way after therapists pointed out that it was the truth for him, and an accomplishment to be proud of...it's ok to be proud of going through hard times, and ok to acknowledge "hey, I did that...noone else- I did that."

Oh I think that's a guy saying "I was strong enough to fight these demons" -- I like the fact that he sees in himself the strength to pull it all together in the face of such a childhood. Later in the interview, he also talks about his love for his "dads" and I think they likely had a lot to do with how he turned out, but I always feel that if a person can feel their own inner strength, they can conquer so much!

It's okay for him to think it but a little less than humble to shout it out. I think humility and class has fallen by the wayside in recent decades. Patty had the utmost candor and humility which always made her so charming and disarming!
