I had a big crush of her when I was a child watching the Patty Duke show. Rest in peace sweet angel.

Its hard to think or comprehend that its been 4 years since Patty Duke died. I literally grew up watching her reruns of her show, movies and other appearances. She left a big void in my life because she was and always be an icon. RIP.

I admire Sean for holding it together. He’s incredibly strong!

I loved her. Not only was she a consummate actress, she survived so much personal strife. God rest her soul. My mother died of sepsis several years ago as well and l hope her sons find lasting peace.

I grew up watching & respecting Patty Duke. Her sons seem to be wonderfully adjusted & talented. Sorry for them & the grandaughters they didn't get to have her around a little longer.

She was a huge part of my childhood. I loved Frankie A and Frankie A loved Patty Duke. I got over it! Watched her show faithfully. Loved her sense of fashion. Truly enjoyed showing my sons The Miracle Worker. She will be missed by many.

I always been a big fan of Patty Duke and find it hard to believe she's passed away. It wasn't until last year did I realize Sean Astin, Samwise, in The Lord of the Rings movies was her son.

Such sad news....I really admired her. I also fell in love with her son Sean in the goonies.... Much respect for Patty and her family.

I, for one, am indebted to Patty's successful rise in everything she accomplished in her life. I mean that! Remember the song from 1973 by the late Joe Cocker: "You are so Beautiful"? If I had the opportunity, I'd sing that song in her presence at any time! Just watching her on TV gave me instant love & inspiration to go on living life from day to day! I saw her live on stage in SF's 2009 production of "Wicked" - she never lost her spark and passion. She may have battled pain, trauma, guilt, and uncontrollable behavior her whole life, but she gave her son and others a gift so many long to have, so much love.

Patty { Anne} was a woman - and creative artist - of depth and substance, and enormous courage. Gone too soon. RIP.

You'd be correct. Lucille was very protective of her children, especially Desi Jr because all of the Hollywood girls were chasing him. She'd shooed Bonnie Lee Blakely away from him too.

Amazing actress Patty Duke was and I love that her relationships with her sons is front and center of her life...So sweet to see such a loving relationship in spite of the hurtles they've had to go through.

This is all new to me. Interesting. I didn't know the actor who played Samwise in LOTR was the son of Patty. I'm on this website due to a recent interest in Helen Keller, and I've looked at clips of Patty's amazing role in that movie. I wasn't aware if she was still around. Yet another sadness, as with other celebs, to discover that she is gone.

Honesty, openness, and treatment for mental illness can lead to healing and strength.

Oh, I didn't know she passed. We went to school together. I think it was PS 102 in Elmhurst. She went to live with some directors or movie coaches downtown NYC. I used to write long letters to her she sent me some publicity photos and then she got famous she would be sad sometimes as a kid also which is how the penpal thing started Patty wanted a friend. I think she was lonely. I never heard from her again after she made her big first movie Miracle worker
