My mom and I met Patty in the airport years ago when my daughter was 6 weeks old. She was on our flight. After we landed, she pulled me aside and asked me if she could hold my baby girl for a moment. She snuggled her for several minutes and then complimented me on my “masterpiece!” My mom was with me and had always been a huge fan, so she was so excited but too nervous to speak to her. Lol Later that evening we heard on the news that Patty had been flying home after her house had caught fire. It amazed both of us how unbelievably caring and sweet she’d been, especially considering the tragedy that was awaiting her! She was a very special person.

Yes, she was…and so talented…it is too bad that her parents basically gave her to her “managers” who were horrible people and just wanted her for the money they could make off of her. Read her autobiographies… she left this world way too soon…she is missed and had wonderfully talented children who miss her so much, I am sure. Today paternity is easy to find out and should be done if their mother doesn’t do what she should do and have one sexual relationship at a time. Some women amaze me….best birth control…an aspirin …..keep it between the knees at all time in bed.

I think it was probably more John Astin's influence that kept Sean on the straight and narrow. Sean was 18 months old when Patty married John, and John adopted him shortly thereafter. When Patty and John divorced, Sean was about 15. But John remained a stable parent for Sean. I'm certain Patty loved Sean - and his brother McKenzie, and I think she tried, but she had a lot of issues. Sean has said he considers John his father, and they remain close. But he is also close with Desi Arnez Jr, who Patti had believed was his biological father. He is also close to his real biological father, Michael Tell, and Patti's last husband, Michael Pearce. All 4 men have remained in his life, and maintained close relationships with Sean. Which Sean has said he is grateful for. He could pick up the phone and call any of them, any time. And they'd be there for him. So if nothing else, she did that for him. She married or had a close relationship with men who were capable of welcoming Sean into their hearts, and lives. In my book, that makes her a good mother, despite her own issues.

And it was pivotal and the outcome of how they turned out. Very tragic as Father's have a very, very important role in their children's lives. My own father had a terrible temper, but he loved my mother and he loved my sister and I. But he wasn't shown how to be a true dad. We only know celebrities as much as their PR Agent's manage, but my impression of Sean over the year's has been a good and decent person. I understand the conflict of needing to know one's true father. The best outcome is he has three paternal influences that he value's as supportive and caring. Hat tip to John and Desi for their commitment to Sean and at last his biological father stepping up so an obviously deserving man could have closure. Great story!

I'm the same age as Patty Duke would be (76) & remember her as a child actress, in the late 50's! As with many child stars, she was thrust into an "adult world" at a young age! However, her impulsive marriage to Michael Tell doesn't make sense unless she knew that she was already pregnant & already having sex with Tell. The only other explanation would be that she only thought that she was pregnant but actually became so after marrying Tell!

I'm Sean's age and when I was 18 my friend's Dad told me he knew Patty Briefly through his business and she told him Desi was Seans dad she was Pregnant with Sean when she told my friend's Dad. I thought he was making that up. But at the time this was not something that was talked about and why would he make up such a random story? He is the type of man that would never have told the press about that story because for whatever reason Patty trusted him enough to tell him this.

Wow. I find it hard to believe that Patty was shocked that Tell was the father. Probably more true that she didn’t want him to be the father so dismissed him as the ‘fake relationship’. That’s just how the cookie crumbles sometimes. Life doesn’t go as planned. I’m glad that it all worked out in the end… and the child grew up feeling loved. He had lots of male role models in his life.
