I admittedly was never a big Carol Burnett nor Harvey Korman fan but one of my NYC high school teachers was a major fan of the show. I always felt that Korman's supposedly genuine cracking up at Tim Conway's on-screen antics wasn't real.

So much of this account of the Titanic is word salad from someone who knows little of ships, icebergs, and bunker fires in general and the Titanic in particular. (Also the Titanic was NOT a cruise ship) 🤨

If you read the comments you will notice many discrepancies. Pictures pop up of people who have nothing to do with what the narrator is talking about. Why is it that people are trying to destroy our memories of good entertainment? I never thought this show was "Dark." It was bright light on a weekly schedule that the whole family sat down and shared.

I really, really get tired of people talking about shows/films/performances that either they haven't seen at all and just (mis)heard about or who have seen the show but missed the point altogether. Case in point: The elephant scene: yes Tim Conway was funny rambling on and on about the elephants, BUT what made the performers and the audience lose it was Vicki Lawrence's ad-lib line (which didn't get into the on air presentation, but which we've all seen on KZread and is famous for her saying, "Well, if that little asshole is finished....." It was so funny and so unexpected from Lawrence that both Tim Conway and Dick Van Dyke fell on the floor laughing - not "giggling." That's as far as I got in this video.

I got to meet Lyle Waggoner once. In a kinda strange setting. My gma worked for Children's Hospital for 40 yrs. She was the director of volunteers. And you'd b blown away by what some of her duties were. Twice a yr she would flown to some HUGE trade show in Canada. Thats what she called it so I didn't know what it really was which was a giant toy show. She was in charge of stocking the 3 gift shops they had. And then buying toys for the kids. It took til I was a little older to really realize that for some of those poor kids that hospital was their home. And they wouldn't ever b able to leave. She had a fairly big office that was a total mess. She had accumulated so much over all those yrs. 2 of the walls in her office from floor to ceiling were pictures of kids and cards from them or their parents. She was an amazing lady. And she loved every single kid she ever met. Until she retired I'd never had a Christmas Day with family. We Christmas Eve was when we celebrated. Because for 40 yrs...never missed once...she would b at the hospital so she could go around with Santa and pass out toys. And these werent some generic barbies or GI JOEs. No...fought with administration every year for her Christmas budget. And she got it every yr. She also was who would cordinate celebrities to come visit the kids. And it was sometimes the craziest ppl. Because, and I'm not being mean but the kids wouldnt have a clue who they were. Like Ken Curtis. Some may know the name. He was Festus on Gunsmoke. And its last show was in 1975. And in 1986 not many of kids were even born yet when the show was on. He actually got a little irritated that the kids weren't more excited. Plus...Festus was a character. He didn't sound anything like on the show. Still a nice man. I got to maybe meet a few of the celebrities when they arrived and when they were through. This also took me a little while to understand but I wasn't allowed to go around with them. Id have to hangout in her office. I didn't understand that...I was perfectly healthy. I would get to go home. Go to school. Go outside and play. I tear up even now thinking about it. Idk how in the world she stayed so positive. She laughed constantly. There were bad days. Some real real bad days. But she never missed a day unless she had no choice. Another celeb who came and wasn't real well known to the kids either was Lyle Waggoner. But he was smart. He knew that most of the kids were way to young to know who he was. So...he brought gifts. And I mean like...buy the truckload. This was maybe 1982...83. Well...he was a little more popular because of Wonder Woman. But that ended in 79. So some of the older kids would know him. But so the toys would b age appropriate his agent asked my gma about how old the majority of the kids were. And she said mostly 10 and under. I was introduced to him. He shook my little hand. Acted like my grip hurt his hand. He made jokes that I got. I helped unload toys into these big carts. Like giant clothes baskets on wheels. And as we stopped at my gmas office before they would go do the rounds he told me I got 1st pick. He called me Mr Sean. He said "Go ahead Mr sean. Take ur pick. That was hard work u earned it. I nearly dove headfirst into that cart. But...I looked at my gma who was silently reminding me why I didn't get to partake of the goods. When she learned of his plans with the toys she actually talked to me specifically about being very polite but to not accept anything offered. And as tears rolled down my selfish little face I said " thank u Mr wagons. But I get to play and go home everyday". And I turned around and went and hid in my top secret base...also known as, under my gmas desk. And do u know what that man did? He went in the office. Got down on 1 knee in front of where I was hiding and crying and gave me a crisp $10 bill. "well...i can pay u for the work u did can't i?". I was in shock. That was like $1000 bux to a 5 yr old. I bolted out. Hugged him. He hugged me back. But then acted like hey now...we're men. We shake hands. And then he said " mr Sean if I don't get to see ya again before I have leave its been a plaasure". So naturally...I started to cry again because my new best friend is leaving. So I went back to hiding. Usually...2hrs and they were done. Reba McEntire (who came often...usually unannounced because she's just that awesome) would hangout for awhile. Like 3 hrs. I was like another grandkid to most of the volunteers so at the 4hr mark I was starving and tired. So they brought stuff from the cafeteria and a cot that usually parents of the kids would use. And almost 6 hrs later(!) when they were done my gma woke me up and we went home. I found out yrs later that my gma had a huge crush on Lyle. And had had it since he was on Gunsmoke. Before even Carroll Burnett. They took a picture together. And for her bday that yr the ladies had the pic blown up to and framed. It hung in her office til she retired. It then hung in our living room where she could brag about it til she passed away. This is crazy long. And no-one will make it this far. Idc...I haven't told that story in yrs. Even when I did tell it last it was to ppl who already knew the story. My memory is going fast. Im glad I got to tell it at least once more before its gone...

Harvey was the main reason I watched carol burnett. He made me fall on the floor with his impressions. I will never get why Tim Conway was more popular, except that a lot of Americans like prat falls and silliness better than anything more evolved.
