Mateusz is an exceptional athlete. He really has a few WSM titles in the tank if he can keep injury free.

Yes it will be interesting to see which contests are available when he recovers. Rob Kearney mentioned that his tricep will take him until about June to recover and I think Mateusz was injured a little earlier so we should see him back around that time frame.

@Darth Dredd It's definitely not the fragility in either case; both cases are a result of recklessness and not so smart training. In Rose's case, he was reckless in playstyle, landed in such a way that put a lot more stress on his joints, and was a sugar addict. Baron Davis was as well, and he was injury-prone. In Mateusz's case, after the imperfect surgery, he ramped up the weights VERY quickly without coaching or supervision, and therefore never got to rehabilitate like he needs to. He learned his lesson finally after this last surgery. He talked to Martins about all of it, and decided to take a smarter and more methodical approach to his recovery and training. Recovery wins titles in the Strongman game. NO ATHLETE has ever been "injury-prone" by nature or by genetic predisposition. That's a defeatist and pathetic mentality. It's all down to smart training, lots of high-quality recovery, an ideal diet for you, plenty of rest, a work ethic and a mentality to pull it all together. If you're getting injured multiple times, you're doing something wrong.

It's just unheard of really. The stone weighs 183kg.. Pretty much the weight of 3 normal sized women. And the stone is uneven and has "sharp" edges. Just getting the stone up to the shoulder 1 time is a massive feat, which very few people are capable of. And yes, as we have seen, maybe only five people on the entire planet are able to get that stone to a shoulder just one single time. And then to actually do it five times in a row... Holy crap... 183! KG.... wtf..

While Mateusz’s performance in the stones during Arnold 2019 was better than 2018’s, I’d choose the latter instead. In 2018 everybody was struggling to even lift the stone up to their knees. Getting a clean was just an outstanding performance. Then Mateusz came along and lifted the damn stone not once, not twice, but four times. It was absolutely unbelievable.

I definitely think they're the evolution of the sport; shear strength of body and mind that can adapt to anything, and we've mostly only seen Matteusz perform with injuries that he's fixed or fixing now. I know the field keeps improving and it seems unlikely we'll see another 4 or 5x winner again, but I think him and Novikov and possibly Licis could usher in the next Shaw/Z-style win-trading era.

Loz, genuinely, such a great analysis. The benchmarking and the added experience and context you deliver makes you the best strongman commentator around. Keep going mate. There is a underserved strongman fan community behind you.

I remember Martins and MK having a conversation at the WUS before that Atlas Stone run. You could tell MK was worried about the bicep, but he was determined to get the win. Martins gave him a good pep talk, and talked him through exactly what he needed. That was a gutsy performance, for sure! And it was great to see those two working together a bit.

I knew that would be number 1, the mental aspect is so much more inspiring than the physical.

I'm from Poland 🇵🇱 and believe me, give him 5 more years and he will be the most strongest man on the world 🌎 ever existed... believe me.

For a future video I would be interested to see you talk about Strongman sportsmanship. I’ve always admired how all these strong and competitive athletes respect each other, cheer each other on even with their rivals. In head to head event if one person quits before the other it’s not rare to see him push his opponent to do well. I think it would be worth highlighting.
