Uhh, the Sonics failed to compete in the 90's?! Who writes these things? The Sonics won 4 division titles in the 90's. In their entire franchise they had only won 1 before the 90's. The Sonics in the 90's were a powerhouse team in the NBA reaching the NBA Finals and having the best record of the entire league another year.

I think the Sonics legacy during the 90s is a little tarnished due to them having championship caliber teams two years in a row but choking in the first round both times. And only finally getting the monkey off their back just in time for MJ to be back with a vengeance and the most unbeatable team in league history being in the way thus squandering their championship window and never winning it all. And I hate saying it cause I was a born and raised in the northwest SuperSonics freak!!

A few honorable mentions: The Seattle Pilots moved to become the Milwaukee Brewers (the Mariners came to town a few years later after the city finally build a decent stadium.) The San Diego Clippers moved up the road to LA (though they started out as the Buffalo Braves). The California Golden Seals moved to Clevland, but then folded (the last sports team in North America to do so) and most of their assists were merged into the North Stars. I’d say the Washington Senators are more important than the Dodgers, because the city lost the team twice… first version became the Twins, and the second version became the Rangers.

"Struggling to compete as the 80's turned into the 90's..." Who wrote that crap?! The 90's Sonics were great! Gary Payton was known as the Greatest Defensive Point Guard in NBA History, Shawn Kemp was one of the best Forwards in the league at that point, and Detlef Schrempf is arguably the player who revolutionized the 6th Man position. They were arguably the toughest team the Chicago Bulls beat in the NBA Finals. Even after the 90's Sonics, Seattle had the dynamic back court of Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis in the 2000's, one of the first back court duos in NBA history to have 2 guards average over 20 points per game each. The Sonics were the reason I am a fan of the NBA today and it still sickens me that they do not have an NBA team in Seattle right now.

This is probably stretching intent of this list, but I would like to mention Brawn GP from F1. At the end of the 2008 F1 season, seemingly out of the blue, the Honda F1 team pulled out. The workforce were suddenly job seeking. Bear in mind that the team members were working on the 2009 car before Honda made the abrupt decision. The management of the team, led by Team Principal Ross Brawn, felt that the time invested in the new car, designed around brand new regulations for 2009, would come to nought if they allowed the work to be put in the skip. With Honda no longer in the picture, the management of the team led a management buyout to keep the group together as a team. On the eve of the season, being granted a last minute entry, the team made it to Australia for the season opener, having done half the preseason testing as everyone else. Remarkably, despite this, in the final test before the season, they were 0.6 seconds per lap quicker than everyone. As they were no longer a works entry, they needed to find an engine supplier. McLaren offered them to supply gearboxes and Mercedes the engine. They needed to modify the car to accommodate the different packaging, but nonetheless they made it to Australia. They ended up winning 6 of the first 7 races and scored 2 more wins over the year, going on to win the drivers and constructors championships with a race to spare. They were struggling for funding towards the end and they were sold to Mercedes Benz to create THAT Mercedes team in 2010

While you can argue over whether the Dodgers, Lakers, or Colts the fact is all they did was switched cities. Where outside of North America have teams or clubs stopped existing? They do not. Only one sport is majorly played in the entire world and clubs exist for 100 or more years. In America it's all about money and business, reason teams move and change franchises etc... In the rest of the world it is not like that.

Minnesota sports fan. Having the Stars, and Lakers leave your home town it sucks. The Vikings losing 4 Super Bowls, 10 NFC championship games, the Twins not winning a playoff series since 2002 and the Wild not making it to the Stanley cup and only making it the Western Conference finals once and not since 2003. Also the T Wolves making the playoffs once since 2004. We’re the worst sports city in America and it’s not even close. We’re some of the most die hard and passionate sports fans in the country, our community has lost so much in the civil unrest and turmoil this country has faced. We need something. Root for Minnesota in the future if you’re natural. We only need one!

Saying the Sonics struggled in the 90’s isn’t correct. They were perineal playoff contenders and the 95/96 team won 64 games before making it all the way to the NBA finals, where they would lose to the the greatest team of all time, the 72 win Bulls. Gary Payton, Shawn Kemp, Detlef Schrempf. The Sonics of the 90’s were probably that conference’s 3rd most consistent franchise behind only the Rockets and Jazz.

Sonics dropped off? They were a perennial playoff team for the bulk of their existence. They went to the postseason 4 times in the '70s, then 7 times in the '80s, and 8 times in '90s, including a Finals appearance in 1996. How was that a dropoff after the early '80s? They were in the Finals 3 times, winning a championship, and played for the Western Conference title 5 times, 3 of which were in the mid-late-'80s to the mid '90s. Hell, they even made it to the playoffs 3 times in the '00s when the team wasn't nearly as good as it had been, including a Semifinals appearance in 2005. Let's give the team some due credit. (I'm not even going to start on the oversimplification of the arena situation.)
