Agreed. Armstrong was simply the best cheater in a sport *literally* filled with cheaters.
As a former competitive runner, witnessing Marion Jones' rise and fall was so heartbreaking... especially considering steroids ruin your body in the process too ultimately cost her nearly everything else. Giving back her medals quietly was honorable, though.

I think Tanya Harding would be the #1, not to say what Armstrong did wasn't also horrible, but he didn't directly and maliciously take someone out like Harding's people did, that was a targeted attack at a competitor, and in something like Olympic skating, you might and very likely will only have one chance. And it's not like there's a whole lot of avenues to make a career out of figure skating.
It always ends in tears...if it doesn't kill you first ofcourse
While it was noted in a previous comment, the 1919 “Black Sox” scandal is a glaring omission with, I’d argue, a strong case for #1 on this list. It’s rather well known and has reverberated through baseball, if not sports, history since. Tarnishing “Shoeless” Joe Jackson’s career and banning him from baseball, Field of Dreams and the book that inspired it, even the rules that still keep baseball’s all-time hit leader banned from the game rose from that scandal.
@northamericanintercontinen3207

I fully picture some team owners and journalists wanting to keep him banned and force the commissioner to bulldoze his resting place
Michelle Smith during the 1996 Olympics won 4 gold medals in swimming only to later test positive for banned substance there was huge uphoria here in Ireland after her winning performance so its a very big deal here when she was later accused of cheating

Although it wouldn't really be considered "cheating" by conventional standards, the fact that Chael Sonnen ever even fought in MMA ruined the lives of everyone else who fought during his career, since he simultaneously held every title in every weight class, and went undisputed and undefeated for his entire career, never even lost a round. They should have created separate titles for everyone not named Chael P. Sonnen. The "P" stands for "greatness."

I can't believe they cheated. Cheating does lead to consequences. People should not cheat. They should play fair. They could've saved all their money if they didn't cheat. I heard about Lance Armstrong cheating by using steroids when I was little. It sucks that a wife had a divorce with his husband.

Easy to say from the outside looking in, but if you have such a competitive mentality that you've gotten to the top of your sport, and you think you have a way to get a competitive advantage without getting caught, a lot of people are gonna take that. I'm not saying it's right or justifying it at all, but people who have the drive to get to the top in the first place are often not wired like normal people. The lines of ethics can get pretty blurry when your mind is in that state.
Lance Armstrong. I was really young, but I remember my father admired him for being such a machine (a nickname of sorts for him). And when the truth came out it was so sad. As I grew up I even got mad at him. What a way to fall from grace.
Lazy Cheaters! They Will Always Be Exposed Sooner Or Later.
Right now, Kenya has a HUGE problem with their marathon runners. Nearly 20% are getting caught doping. This is major in the running world.
wow i cant believe people actually paid thousands to cheat so mad!!!
It just goes to show cheaters never prosper/win
@markzuckergecko621
Жыл бұрын
Sadly, not true. For everyone who got caught cheating, there's probably 10 more who just never got caught. If we knew about every cheater in major sports, then nobody would ever cheat, because there would be a 100% chance you get caught.
@jamespaul6315

Lol isnt lance armstrong super rich
I once read a theory that Lance Armstrong had denied doping so many times during interviews/media/press conferences that he actually started to believe that it was true, like his brain had somehow changed his thinking and he legitimately thought that he wasn't using performance enhancing drugs. It sounds pretty far fetched, but it's an interesting take on the situation.
@charliejoson9145

It's actually a phemonena - to lie so many times that eventually the lie becomes the truth.
I had a friend who tried to convince me that if everyone doped and used steroids, we'd have "better" athletes 😳😳
"Apito Dourado" is a top 3 scandal. In case you don't know what it is, it's a scandal in Portuguese Football like Italy's one, possibly even worse because it's duration still lasts to this day, and there was no punishment for the main responsible club
I really loved Marion Jones grew up looking at her as an amazing individual. This one was truly rough.
i remember reading one time that Armstrong said if he could do it over again he would do it all the same. clearly to me that means isnt sorry he did it only sorry he got caught
I’d rather lose with grace than win by cheating
... and, less than 20 years after Calciopoli, Juventus have again been docked points for financial mismanagement and other offences.
Imagine being a bounty on a American football pitch 😂. You could literally call yourself John Wick.
Ouch! That sucks!
I remember the walleye fish scandal. These two fishing champions were caught putting lead balls inside their fish, to make them weigh more thus giving them a better chance to win. They got away with over 200,000 dollars plus a boat doing their scheme, but were eventually caught, charged, had their fishing licenses removed and were bamned from fishing for life

"Did you enjoy this list?" is kind of an inappropriate thing to say after talking about someone dying and someone getting arrested as a result of cheating.
Lance Armstrong is probably the most shocking on this list. He was regarded as an American hero for beating cancer and winning all those Tour de France races. It was disappointing to hear he'd cheated.

Prichard Colon vs Terrel Williams should’ve been the worst case of cheating in sports that ruined someone’s life. Williams cheated mutual times in the match with rabbit punches, which are illegal in boxing, and the referee failed to take action on it. This ruined Prichard’s life as the brain damage from the blows caused him to be a vegetable.

It’s crazy I literally just heard about Rosie Ruiz, I may be misspelling it
I ain't that surprised about this

New England Patriots Spygate should've been on this list, Springboks vs. All Blacks World Cup Final should've been on this list. Sacramento Kings vs. LA Lakers NBA Playoffs Game should've been on this list.
If you ain’t cheating, you ain’t trying lol
Lance Armstrong was the biggest disappointment. At the time I believed in him only to be let down
