Great overview Jay! I have the G0555LX bandsaw and love it. I recently just added the riser block to mine and really like the added resaw capacity. It was pretty easy to add and the kit wasn't to pricey. Keep up the good work, I'm really loving this series!

I have the same bandsaw. I hook the fence to the frame behind the switch. I installed wheels in the foot holes on the base at assembly. Your right about the dust collection being useless. I really love what this saw does for me and my woodworking. Thanks for putting out a great tool video.

I like the suggestions about how they could make it easier to change the blade. That seems like a simple solution. The resaw capability was why I debated going to the next step as well, but just like you, had budget limitations when I purchased this one.

hey Jay, nice review. I have the G0555 as well with the riser block to give me 12" resawing capacity. It's a good way to go in my opinion. I love having the option to resaw wide boards and it works well for me.

Thanks for the helpful review of the grizzly band saw. Right now I have a 63 year old Atlas band saw, 12 inch all steel. Works pretty good too. Just tired of turning the top screw handle to release tension on the blade. One day will get another one for resawing.Steve

I have the same bandsaw with the riser kit and it's worth the money. First the resaw capacity is awesome and when changing the longer blade I'm able to avoid the issue of getting it around the fence I just release the tension and bring the blade through the front first and then it's easy to go around the table and fence. So my 2 cents worth it's been well worth the money for the riser kit and aftermarket blades like highland. Awesome saw

Good Video Jay. I got the Lanv about a month ago. I also replaced the crappy factory blade with Timber Wolf, which is scary sharp. I hang the lock in the on switch to remind myself to engage the tension lever (new to me). i put 3" poly casters from big blue (sewol), the 3/8" threaded stem, $28.00, works great. This is the only tool that I have that is shiny, it makes everything else look asleep. Keep up the good work.

I have a ridigd 14 in bandsaws. it's just like all 14 in bandsaws in design. however, it only had a shop vac port near the lower guides. it never collected any dust, so I drilled a 4 inch hole in the door read the guides and bolted on a 4 in port. dust collection is exceptional now

I have this one and overall have been pretty happy with it. I do agree about the movement in the table. In regards to changing the blade I haven't had the same troubles I guess. I pull it off the wheels on the left side and out of the bearing guides, then pull it out the slot in the table first and then bring it around front so it can exit the left side of the fence mount easily. Also, I saw a guy who reviewed the G0555 model on KZread and he showed a dust collection feature he added around the lower bearing guides (mounted to the trunion bolts). Haven't built one myself yet but looked pretty good.

Jay, thanks for the review, I just purchased the same saw, and a riser kit based on your opinion. Overall I like the saw and price during the 2016 black Friday sale. I have not installed the riser kit yet, figured it is best to start with what the came in the box to insure there is no issues. In putting it together I found the system for the guide rollers to be tough to set, the blade from grizzly is slightly wide at the weld, meaning I need to have the guide wheels out further than I want. Also setting the fence guides was a pain, they could use some better adjustment method. But this tool is 1000 times better than my last saw by Ryobi.

MAKE YOUR CURRENT BASE MOBILE! You can bolt casters to the side of the bottom legs, then you don't need a dolly and you keep the same base! Just tip the bandsaw onto the casters. Might need to add a little extra support though, I don't know how sturdy your base is.

i was SO tempted to go this route, but I have been holding out and for quite a while. The reason is, I don't want to feel that stab of "man, I should have just waited a little while longer" you see @ 8:55 and on, when reflecting on having purchased a saw that only met my needs for a short while (even if that is 2-3 years). Grizzly is having a sale on the G0513X2 and I have that bad boy ON THE WAY! I'm extremely stoked.

I don't mind it.I use the same - 3/16" 4 TPI skip from h.w.w...it works great for everything & anything i put on the table.one thing I don't like about my bandsaw is theres no fence. so I had to make a fence .-I really wish all band saws were made the way you described that way blade changing would be easy. it's such a pain.

Good overview, Jay. I essentially have the same saw, but they call it the "ultimate". I added on the riser block and honestly I've never been very happy with the saw. Bad blade drift, even when the tension is so tight you swear the blade is going to snap any minute. I mainly got the riser block for resawing rough stock.

Grizzly sells a riser kit to increase the resaw capacity of their 14 inch saws up to 12 inches. I'm not sure if it would decrease the structural rigidity of the saw, but for $90 (new longer blade included) it can't hurt to try it. before upgrading to a whole new saw.

Bandsaws don't take much space. The Resaw bandsaw is the only one that needs any infeed/outfeed space. My 2nd bandsaw (the one with the small blade for curved cuts) is tucked right up against my DC and 9 times out of 10 there is no need to move it, as curved cuts don't usually take up any space behind the saw.

That is an oddly small re-saw capacity for a 14" saw. My saw is only a 12" but my re-saw capacity is 8" and with a little guide modification I think I could squeeze another 1/2"-1" out of it if I really wanted before the case got in the way. Mine does have the front blade slot, but it's even less convenient than yours because my fence guide totally blocks it and has to be removed to change the blade. I am waiting for a flash of inspiration to give me the idea for how I can modify this to make it easier.

When changing you blade, you should take off the table...... there is only two screw handles to remove it. By doing this you will be able to adjust everything very easy and the blade around the fence problem will go away . It does not take that much time to take off and put on the table.......... Try it

Hey Jay need some advice. I have the same bandsaw as yourself and just received the 3/16 blade from Highland that you talked about here in your video. This blade is replacing the garbage 3/8 that it came with. This new blade will not stay on the wheels no matter what I do. Barely get it to track just back of center of wheel and if I as so much gently press back of blade while I am spinning blade with finger and it runs right off front of wheel. No issues with the factory 3/8" blade at all, it stayed exactly where I put it no matter what I did. Adjusted tension block to just under 1/4" since it was at 3/8" from factory with their 3/8" blade. Any tips you used or similar problems?

I just picked up this bandsaw and was looking at blades. I checked out highland woodworking and I can't seem to find anything in the 3/16" size. Anyway you can point me in the right direction? I like the idea of having a resaw blade that can do curves as well so I think that would be a solid blade. Like everyone else, I don't hate changing blades, I just try my best to avoid it.

Jay, with over a year with this bandsaw, how do you feel about it now? I'm considering buying one, originally I was going to get the cheapest Laguna, but these look much more affordable but still solid bandsaws. I build guitars so all I really need it for is cutting through 2" thick mahogany with 1/2" thick maple top, I'd route with a template for the final outline. Also I might need to get the riser block to cut through flame maple for a book matched top. Just wondering if you had to do it all over again would you have chosen this bandsaw.

  • @owenjohnson5030

    @owenjohnson5030

+WestCoastMods Dust collection is an issue on all bandsaws. The issue is most of the dust travels down with the blade into the area where the lower bearings are. This area is not sealed and therefore capturing sawdust becomes an issue. A dual port model is a little better, but you still have that wide open area under the table.

I was wondering how you know when the blade has the correct tension? I have a 10" craftsman, and when I try to do a set up on it, I have no idea if the blade is at the correct tension. Looked it up online and cannot find anything definitive. I think I have my bearings set correctly, but my first few cuts (with a brand new blade) came out strange. The cut looked good on one side, but the other side was burned. It makes some strange noises too. I may just have a junk band saw.

+Howard Springsteen burns on one side sounds like the blade is drifting once the cut has started. That can sometimes be due to a blad that isn't sharp. Or a low tension on the blade. I normally use the tension gauge as a reference and then increase the tension. No really way of telling how much tension I put on it though as it's one of those "by feel" situations.

Great comments Jay - I have a friend that had the same complaint about dust collection on his bandsaw. He found this at Woodcraft: www.woodcraft.com/product/149580/dust-collection-hose-stayput-212-od-x-36.aspx - he put a reducing wye on his dust hose and routed it to where he wanted it - right at the work area. They also make a 4 inch version too.

That's an interesting idea! I've seen other solutions where people mount something permanently under the table, but this seems like a super simple option. Thanks for sharing!

Hello, could anyone tell me what is the difference between G0555LANV and G0555? Because I’m planning to buy my first band saw and I saw someone selling on Craigslist both models. The G0555 priced for $500 and the G0555LANV for $300.

LANV is just the anniversary edition. Stickers and such. I'd grab the LANV today at 300 if it was in good condition and listed near me.

@@JayBates2 I bought the G0555 because it’s near me and the seller lower it to $450 and with mobile base/wheels and 3 brand new blades. The G0555LANV has a little rust because it was stored outside but still working good. Anyways, thank you for your response

I bought the same saw at the same time. Mine came with wheels that were way out of co-planer. Could not keep a blade on the wheels until I purchased shims to move the lower wheel out. Still tough to keep narrow blades tracking. Grizzly customer support has not been helpful. Just a cautionary comment.

I have had the same experience! I spent hours trying to get it dialed in and grizzly was absolutely no help. I even had a really experienced friend look at it and he agreed that it was off. I would have sent it back but I struggled to get it into my basement shop and don't have a pallet or the original boxes to send it back. Anyway, thanks for the comment, I was glad to see it wasn't just me.

yes but the key question is,,,,,they have a one year warranty vs rikon with a 5 year,,,more acceptable to getting burned when you can pick the rikon up at woodcraft,,plus home depot bandsaws have a 90 day return policy with no questions asked,,they seem like a good bandsaw,,,but if they really believed it the warranty would be longer,,im from the old school,,and I don't like to get cheated,,already been there with that one from sears

Buyer beware I previously purchased a table saw and jointer from this company with no problems however, I bought a band saw from grizzly and when assembled it did not power on and had 3 other defects. Reading the troubleshooting guide on page 44 of the manual I realized that I was not qualified to work on the electrical system. Contacting Grizzly I was treated less than poorly. Grizzly finds it acceptable to sell a new machine with corroded wires, incorrectly installed the wiring harness for the motor, defective start ON/OFF switch, Centrifugal and capacitor inoperative etc.… I am not an electrician but Grizzly squarely puts the responsibility on the customer. Under their warranty, Grizzly requires that you will affect repairs on a brand new machine that is defective upon arrival. The only option, disassemble and ship the machine back at your own costs for their evaluation, at which time they will decide to repair/replace or refund and credit your shipping costs. I believe a warranty is an insurance to repair or replace an item that BECOMES defective in time not to ship you a machine that is inoperative on day 1. I have been woodworking for 35 years and bought many tools, I never experienced this lack of quality control and customer support. Lastly upon searching the internet there is strong possibility that I was shipped a refurbished saw. Do read their warranty and return policy carefully. Unfortunately I am not the only one with defective equipment, the below links show that it is common, moreover Grizzly deletes any negative reviews on their “review” website. www.bbb.org/us/wa/bellingham/profile/machine-tools/grizzly-industrial-inc-1296-515707/complaints www.resellerratings.com/store/Grizzly_Industrial www.glassdoor.com/Reviews/Grizzly-Industrial-Inc-Reviews-E193090.htm grizzly-industrial.pissedconsumer.com/review.html Good luck

I usually enjoy watching your review videos, mainly for your honesty, but with all due respect I feel like you kind of mailed this one in. Most of what I got out of this was you would've liked "more resaw capacity." No mention of blade tracking, noise level, style/settings of guide system and tension, your thoughts on durability, and features compared to others in the price range. "This is the 30th Anniversary model which is painted black and some other little odds and ends" and "there's a knob in back to straighten the wheel" (co-planer, btw) is not much of a review. I bought my Laguna 1412, which has been fantastic and has 13" resaw capacity, about the same time as you and the prices weren't far apart. Anyway, not to seem overly critical, but I felt like you haven't used it much or know enough about bandsaws to give a helpful review to potential buyers, which you usually do. So keep up the great reviews, but stick to tools you've gotten more familiar with.

I'm sorry to hear that Jay's FREE information and opinions weren't to your liking. Hopefully, he will spend more hours researching, using his tools, and writing in-depth, thorough reviews so it will be worth all the effort you put into clicking a link on KZread.

    1. Jay doesn't seem like the type of guy who needs someone like you to defend him, especially for polite, constructive criticism. 2. Jay gets paid something every time someone clicks on one of his various media outlets - not to mention a fair amount of free tools to give "free information" about, which is fine. 3. My comment was directed to Jay, so who the hell asked for you to chime in?

I have the same saw and have never been able to make it run smoothly. Lots of vibration, blade chatter, and it's noisy. I guess I got a lemon.

It's a shame that we have to save up our money to buy these things and they are all essentially offshore junk. It's fine to make homeowner model tools, but it's a shame that we have to pay so much for so little. Taiwanese motor, stamped steel trunions for the blade tilt, and a frame so week that one needs to remove tension in between uses or the fame will deflect. I own several saws, none have had premature blade failure due to tension. That's like saying to jack up your car to save your tires & springs while you aren't using it. It has a great paint job, looks good, it's too bad that you end up with junk. I could have been made with cast frame and table, and it wouldn't have had to cost more, except for corporate greed. Sadly these are no better than your average washing machine or refrigerator, in 5 years it will be done. Made for the dump!
