    Wade Patton Yup. I’d rather hear the machine doing it’s thing as long as it’s not screaming. I typically tone down the mechanicals about 10db or so. It’s a little more of a pain when the bandsaw is fairly quiet, but the shop-vac is just obnoxious :-)

    Great video! And very cool to see how active you are in the comments answering everyone's questions! What is the total depth, from the front of the bandsaw table to the backside of the machine? I have a pretty tight space I need to put this into if I end up purchasing this machine..

    Thanks, Miles. Happy to help answer any questions. The motor sticks out the back of the machine a couple inches and there is a release handle on the front of the fence rail that adds a couple inches, for a depth of about 32". I also have Grizzly's "Bear Cub Crawl" mobile base, which is about the same 32" depth. If you need it in a tight space and can move it whenever you need to cut something longer, the base has worked great in both garage shops I've used it in. I'm hoping to get our pole barn fixed up next year so I can move out of the garage and have more room than I know what to do with.

    Aside from "more is better", Grizzly makes a similar priced 17" saw with 2 HP, the G0513. The G0555XH has heavier cast iron wheels vs. the G0513's aluminum, a better resaw fence, a larger table and a better stand. So, there are a lot of updates to make this competitive at its price point. In my case, I simply don't have the power available to run 2 HP without tripping breakers, so I did my best to get every other advantage I could.

    @@WindRidgeWoodCrafts I've been looking at the G0513 and G0513X2 as my main choices for a while, but I'm starting to lean towards the G0555XH after seeing yours in action. I know what you mean about flipping the on switch and tripping the breaker!😀 Thank you for the reply.

    @@andyd.1793 Glad to hear the info was helpful. You might notice I turn on the bandsaw first, then the shop-vac. If I do it the other way, the start-up load for the G0555XH with the existing load of the shop-vac trips the breakers. Not a big deal, just the joys of operating large-ish tools on limited power :-)

    Mike ....Just watched you slice the cherry into beautiful lumber. I have the Grizzly GO555LX with the riser block installed and my cuts are atrocious......I get vibration and a very drifty cut. Wondering if you first had that issue after installing your riser? Is the Wood Slicer blade a needed item? Do you tension your blade according to the tensioner scale on the back? Have you changed to a different tire or motor belt to eliminate vibration. I enjoyed my saw before the riser install....and look forward to resawing and being happy with my results with it in.....just looking for answers. thanks

    Hi Lawrence - one of the reasons I picked the XH over the LX was the XH is cast with a 12" capacity as a single piece from the factory. There is no riser block needed (or available for it). Are you familiar with Alex Snodgrass' bandsaw tuning directions? If not, I'll be happy to provide a link to one of his tuning videos. He talks about all the adjustments needed to get your bandsaw running at its best, including tensioning the blade (hint, ignore the scale). My bandsaw is still original as far as tires and belts are concerned. I do like the Wood Slicer blades, but since I'm recommending Alex, he recommends Carter Green Wood blades (Alex works for Carter and Carter owns some/all of his bandsaw product patents). Let me know if I can provide more info.

    that was nice to watch, thank you for sharing. I'm getting a bandsaw for christmas and it's down to this model and a 2HP Shopfox. It's clearly a sweet saw I don't think I'd be dissapointed with, but wanted to ask, do you like the trunnion adjustment and is the table stable once set up? I've heard others nit pick that, but curious if it's simply nit picking....

    Thanks, EG. I've been very happy with it and haven't had any problems. I'd buy it again under the same circumstances (my garage is power-limited at a single 20 amp breaker). I'd prefer something in the 17" and 2+ HP range in the same price ballpark (Grizzly G0513 series), but the G0555XH was pretty much as big as I could get and not spend 1/2 the time at the circuit breakers. If your ShopFox is similar to the Grizzly G0513 series, go for it.

    I have the G0555LX and the fence is not quite 90 degrees with the platform. There are no adjustments for that . That makes resawing a real problem. Grizzly suggested taking the fence apart and adding some shims. Where did you get the fence you have in this video?

    Hi Ken - sorry to hear it's off a bit. For mine, that's the fence that came with the saw, which I believe is model H7584. On Grizzly's site, it pointed to this one for your G0555LX - www.grizzly.com/products/Grizzly-Resaw-Fence-Complete-for-14-Bandsaws/H7587.

    @@WindRidgeWoodCrafts Thank you. I'm planning to buy a bandsaw and after some callings, people told me that I need at least 5Hp for cutting 10" hardwood like you"r doing, just to get enough torque . But I think the sawing blade is an important issue too. I also have only single phase 220V in my work shop.

  • @WindRidgeWoodCrafts

    @WindRidgeWoodCrafts

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@lignumdrums If you're resawing 10" hardwood all day long, I'd agree that 5 HP would be appropriate. If it's just needed occasionally, I'd say 1.5 HP is the absolute minimum. And wood species will come into play. The cherry in the video is a medium density hardwood, but I've resawn 10" oak, hickory and walnut on the same bandsaw with great results. Single phase 220V would be plenty for up to 5 HP. And the blade is really going to be a big factor with that big of a cut, regardless of power. You can get a nice blade for $30 for a 14" saw. If you're looking at 5 HP, you're probably into a 21" bandsaw and can get a great carbide blade in the $200 range that will outlast a regular blade 10:1, making it cost effective.

    Have you watched some of Alex Snodgrass’s videos on tuning a bandsaw? He walks you through several steps to make sure everything is properly adjusted. And be sure you have a good blade. Alex is a a much better resource on blades than I am, but I have had good experience with Highland Woodworking and Laguna blades.

    Hi David, I've been very impressed with it. If you're doing some resawing above 6", I'd recommend going with the Highland Woodworking Wood Slicer blade mentioned. It's about $5 more expensive than the TimberWolf blades from Grizzly. I don't think the TimberWolf blades are bad, just the Wood Slicer is worth the difference and then some. The tiniest downside is no fault of the bandsaw, at all. I work in my garage using the standard garage circuit that the house was built with 20 years ago. I use a 5 or 5.5 HP Shop-Vac as my dust collection. I need to turn the bandsaw on for a couple seconds before I turn the Shop-Vac on, otherwise the startup load from the bandsaw will trip the breaker. That 1.75 HP motor draws 15 amps, perhaps a couple more at startup. Once they are both running, there isn't an issue. I would not hesitate to buy it again. Be sure to check in to the Grizzly Woodworking Tool Enthusiasts at facebook.com/groups/1838848583069869/.
