I now understand more of the reason why naoki refused Matsumoto's advances and his reaction to Mari when she implied that haven't they meet sooner. ( She means way before they met their present partner's. ) They would probably end up together and they would be married instead. Because he was loyal to kotoko even when they aren't dating openly and even when kotoko isn't aware they are a thing. He loves her so much that he can't imagine anyone to be doing that intimate gestures not unless it's her. I now fully understand why he said the words " she doesn't seem to know that I love her ". Because even with his exterior being tough , strict , and cold-hearted. He is a very loyal and one woman man on the inside. He was aware of her imperfections and wasn't trying to change her. He is always proud of his marital status despite her not so good reputation. He even risked the life of his patient nami. Just to never let kotoko feel like she's being denied of his love and recognition as his wife. Even when he knows the child had a heart problem and extreme emotions may affect her he still made it clear for her that her hopes of him and her mom getting married is impossible because he is already married

And how he never hide it. At school when she didn’t tell anyone that they were married, he marched in, gave her what she forgot and admitted that this is his wife. At the hospital when she didn’t tell anyone, he checked in with her at lunch to make sure she was doing alright in front of everyone. With the difficult patient, when the doctor said that Kotoko was Naoki’s wife he confirmed it. While Kotoko is very open and expressive, always stating her love for her husband, Naoki is much quieter, mostly showing it through actions, which is why some people aren’t always aware that he truly loves his wife. But if asked if they are married, Kotoko (depending on the circumstance) may hesitate and be bashful about it, but no matter what the circumstance is with Naoki, he well proudly and matter-of-factly state that this is his wife.

@@allisonkrapf5605 i think the reason why he showed up handing her her wallet was because of what kotoko said the night before. She look at him looking frustrated and said " it's hard to have a superstar husband ". And when asks what does she mean she refused to say anything. And naoki knowing his wife he sensed that their must be a problem. I am sure he is always asked about his relationship status and they thought he already had a gf given his looks. But because he doesn't have a gf but has a wife it's a torment to always correct them every time. And now that it has affected her he has to make a move. Thus the action he did that time

@@zylamortienio7437 Very true, he is the type of person if directly asked, he will always answer honestly. He hates the idea of hiding his relationship and adores his wife. He will help where he can, but he understands that he can't fight her battles for her. Which is one of the things I love about him, he is devoted to his wife and wouldn't even entertain the idea of cheating, but he does have the flaw of not thinking of how he treats other women would led them to think they have a small chance with him.

@@allisonkrapf5605 he was loyal and had his eyes straight to her only. Kotoko is possessive of him openly while naoki was equally possessive as she is but in a more quite way. He doesn't like anyone to have even the slightest physical contact on her even on s1, he also don't like her to be showered with compliments from another man of about how cute she is. That's why when she cried on the scene where Rika confronted her and asks her to give naoki up to her just because she thinks she deserves him better he said " WHEN DID I EVER GAVE YOU REASONS TO DOUBT ME ? I NEVER HAVE, I CHOOSE YOU HAVE SOME CONFIDENCE ON YOURSELF ". because in his part he tried his best to be faithful to her. Even when he had a lot of options he didn't even think of cheating. He loves and appreciates her. And it's not expecting or want her to change. Their love is so strong that its kind of hard to believe it's even there. That's why people saw more of kotoko's love being stronger compared to naoki when in fact they both just love each other so much

I absolutely agree with every word of yours but the part about Nami. I don't think Naoki was able to risk somebody's life. Nami asked if Kotoko was really his wife and Naoki answered her question; nobody expected the kid to react the way she did.🤔

I like this comment you added for the part where Matsumoto confesses to Irie, and Kotoko's hiding behind the bush "This is how we look when we overhear juicy tea on the other table. We get invested in the drama" 🤣🤣

As an Asian and the oldest son, I understand the awkward position Naoki was put in. My dream was to go to law school, but my dad and mom was getting old and needed me to work immediately. I'm now near retirement age and haven't sniffed my life's dream. That's the Asian way; the family's financial well being must come first.

Saying "i don't want to do something like that with you. " to Matsumoto about kissing her is a lot stronger statement saying "I have never regarded you in a romantic way and never will". Matsumoto may have thought that she had had a shot with Naoki because he went on that date with her to the movies. She didn't realize that he only went with her because he thought it would make Kotoko jealous, because he thought that she was having a relationship with Sudo-San. Matsumoto should have seen Naoki's committment to Kotoko after Naoki grabbed Kotoko and ran off after a dangerous situation transpired instead of Matsumoto. He really wanted that date to have been with Kotoko instead of Matsumoto. He even implies that Kotoko is his girl by only calling her by her first name with no honorifics. Matsumoto was always addressed by him as Matsumoto-San even though they took classes together, played in the tennis club together, and worked in the restaurant together. We can never fault Matsumoto for not trying her best to be Naoki's love interest, but Naoki's heart was already taken in high school by Kotoko way before their first kiss on the steps at graduation. He just didn't want to admit it to Kotoko and his mother.

How come I never noticed this small detail? I watched Mischievous Kiss many times but never noticed this Yes you were really right it was indeed a very low key but it was Matsumoto who he told about Kotoko even though Yuki saw him kiss her he never said anything not until this scene with Matsumoto I love it I'm going to sub.

you know through all of her cooking, I'm really happy Naoki didn't have to go to the hospital to get his stomach pumped because Kotoko almost poisoned him multiple times

Plus, he's talking about their second kiss proving that it is a heartfelt kiss by him.
