This is a fundamental moment for naoki. Its kind of a rude awakening for him. Sure it crushes his pride to admit for the first time how he was at fault for this mess and how much trouble he caused for people around him but it sure helps him to at least be more open to what's his thinking. And he started with kotoko because for him she was one of those people he owe him an explanation too. And she oftens misunderstood his actions towards dealing through a lot of things that pass. He wanted her to know how sorry he was that he wasn't there. His side of the story on why he resorted into a decision of cutting out all family contacts, his uncertainty on things , the things he is afraid of , and the things he holds importance and value more than anything. He confides on her for everything. He relied on her for comfort in times of destress. But as a man he has to keep his urges at bay still when he and kotoko slept on the same bed. Because if he ever did anything he would end up being a puppet to his mom crazy over calculation of things. Just how his mother went ahead and had them married as soon as he lets them know his heart for kotoko. That's why as you noticed naoki never turned to kotokos side in bed when talking. Had kotoko initiated first naoki wouldn't be able to resist his urge and give in.

This is such an interesting observation bc I always took it as Naoki foregoing most boundaries/formalities and being super casual with Kotoko. But now I see it as his comfort with her and opening up to her

The only part that I was really thankful to Naoki is that she comforted Kotoko..... Kotoko has a high EQ who is also an introvert, that means she doesn't break down that easily since Yuki is still in the ICU, Naoki knew that she is already holding those buckets of tears inside. Need niya lang ng masandalan at maiyakan ng walang tanong na kapalit.

I love your analysis. I've always felt there was more to Naoki but could never put my finger on it. I am not an introvert myself. I would add that he also received comfort from the physical contact here. His brother that he loves is going into surgery, and he was called out on a mistake that could have cost his brother's life. Hugging the person he loves would also give him comfort and ease his anxiety.

Also, all i know in Japan, when a boy calls you with your first name, it means he's really close to you, or like you.🥺 Ps. Since the 1st time i watch when i was in middle sch, i can't ever forget this hug scene so much

You know what I loved most about this episode? I love how Kotoko's friends look for Naoki without hesitation and selflessness

All in all, kin-chan is such a great guy, it's just that Naoki needs Kotoko more than him. I don't think it would be easy for him to find another girl with the connection he felt with Kotoko. A high IQ man, with low EQ, with a low IQ girl but high EQ. They need and balance each other as a great match. ❤

Im starting to understand the whole 'names' part and their importance in japanese culture.. wow now im trying to think of anytime in kotoko and naoki's marriage where she even called him by his name.. I cant remember if she ever did.
