    Yes. I think the Tivo's are quality products. They have common ownership with ChannelMaster. My old no frills Channelmaster DVR still works after 12 years. When the two companies merged they discontinued the CM dvrs and I no longer have the 2 week free guide. I know you can still manually record, but I'm too lazy, so I upgraded to the Edge.

    Trying to remember, but I believe the dvr was $250.00 with the life time subscription, but it may have been more. Do you have problems with your Visio TV. I have trouble with mine not recognizing some of my equipment and will not allow me to use the inputs they are on. I switched over to all 4K cables which helped. I finally went into my settings and disabled the CEC setting. It's not smart anymore, but everything works.

    Thank you for this detailed review. I have three TiVo boxes in the house and overall work great, but I'm sad Hulu and HBO/Max are not supported on the boxes, 😞. I wish they'd get on-board: they know streaming is beating out cable, why not cater and market to the masses??

    It probably has to do with money and they use it as a sales draw. If a little Roku or Firestick can offer a hundred apps or so, you know they could easily add more to the Tivo. They do the same thing with 4k blu ray players. My Sony has some of the major apps on it, but not enough to compete with the Firestick.

    I have a Samsung Smart TV, think I bought it 2018? Had DirecTV since 2006 cuz I'm in an underdeveloped zone and even with the old bubble back TV I got 0 picture this January after DirecTV is no longer ATT they went way up in price and customer loyalty didn't matter anymore+ all the prime viewing including the history network were just showing reruns and they now expected you to buy the streaming service! Nope I had had it with Law & Order SVU reruns on every network I cancelled service unfortunately they didn't read the memo 😅 and I unscrewed the feed to the satellite and screwed it into the antenna that I put up a couple of years earlier and everything has been working great until yesterday so I assume they have changed the signal? I have a Roku stick but it won't allow me to use antenna TV? Wonder if I can eventually buy a TiVo will I still run into the same issue? Broadcast is in grey so you can't scan unless you remove the Roku device, anyone else familiar with this issue? Yes I also have a new antenna 3.0 but the apartment is replacing balconies so I have to wait for mine to be replaced and hopefully I can unscrew the setup that the DirecTV installer drilled into the railing! Does everything have to cost us Seniors an arm and a leg 😂

    So, two years ago you were using the antenna and receiving over the air broadcast tv, but now you have reconnected it and you can't get programming, is that right? If so, that has nothing to do with the satellite service you canceled. The signals come from radically different sources. I suspect that you have a connection problem or you antenna needs to be re-aimed. Before you purchase a Tivo, you need to make sure that you are able to get the over the air programming. Check you tv menu. After being on cable, your tv may have to do a channel scan to acquire those channels. You've got me intrested now, so let me know how this turns out.@@me4654

    @@deerparkhomeshop2471 thanks for responding no I bought the antennae maybe 4 years before I actually put it on the balcony & then it sat for another couple of years, DirecTV was still a part of att and would bring my bill to an acceptable amount, January 15th to be exact it said no satellite connection plus the program (the bridge) was on Ovation (free) and AMC+ which I didn't have so it would cancel the DVR free viewing and say no subscription recording cancelled plus the fact that they wanted to jack up the price another 79$ so with all those issues and the fact when I called about the no satellite they'd be happy to send a tech out for 99$ but if I get the insurance they will wave the fee🤣 there's no way I'm paying for insurance for something I don't own and a old Satellite that they leave on the balcony when people move! I've repositioned it and scanned the channel's & finally got the one channel I wanted, you miss understood me when I called to disconnect I unscrewed the dtv feed to the satellite and rerouted the coax cable to the antenna and it worked fine since January but my guess is the antenna is old & I bought a next gen one and as soon as they remove my balcony & put up the new one I'll screw it too the new railing and I should be good to go! Thanks again

    To overcome the 2 tuner problem, just buy a 2nd TiVo for Antenna for another room. You can connect to the other TiVo and stream the recorded programs. Some of my series record on one, some on the other. Another point, you must buy the all in service for TiVo for Antenna up front.

    The Tivo bolt, if I have this right, is a step up from the edge and can be purchased in either 4 or 6 channel versions. The advertising says it can be used with cable and antenna. However, they may be phasing out this model. It's available on Amazon, but not at Tivo or Channelmaster. Thanks for watching.

    My cable company runs their cable in clear QAM (no digital converter box is needed, just plug cable into the tv, scan for channels and they are there). Will this unit work as DVR with my cable company?

  • @deerparkhomeshop2471

    @deerparkhomeshop2471

    Жыл бұрын

    I'm not an expert here because I haven't had cable for over 10 years. It is my understanding that the Tivo Edge for Cable model will display unencrypted or clear Qam programing. Here is a quote from their website:: "Some cable providers include unencrypted channels in their cable lineups. These channels usually are rebroadcasts of ATSC (antenna) channels. If you perform a channel scan, these unencrypted channels (which are also known as "clear QAM channels") appear in your channel list, and your TiVo device can tune to them, but you will not receive program guide data for them unless you obtain a CableCARD from your cable provider. Here is why CableCARDs are necessary for clear QAM channels " And here is the link: tivoidp.tivo.com/tivoCommunitySupport/s/article/CableCARD-FAQ?language=en_US I would check with my cable company and see if they have a cable card available for the DVR and ask them to confirm that this device will be compatible. You can also chat with Tivo.com for answers. Also make sure that you can return the DVR to the seller if you have problems. Sorry I can't give you a simple yes or no answer to your question, but I just don't have the experience.

    It gets a 3.3/5.0 rating on Amazon. Not much of an endorsement. I don't want any device that requires a subscription. I tried the new Tablo Gen 4 that doesn't require a subscription but it's buggy as heck. I see others on their forums have similar issues. So I bought a HomeWorx hw-150pvr and it does the job for me. Cost $32. Obviously it doesn't have all the bells and whistles as the Tivo or Tablo but it is reliable and no subscriptions. It's closer to the old vcr's back in the day only you record to a thumb drive or external hard drive.

    The antenna version is not available on Tivo any longer. They sell the Edge for cable only now. That's worthless to pay for 2 subscriptions. Tivo redirects to Channel Master for the antenna's 2-channel version, meaning Tivo discontinued the antenna version and eventually the subscription.
