Thx! What is the difference between cable and antenna? I have roku now and it disconnected my TiVo. I miss my TiVo. I don’t get local channels anymore either, so my tv isn’t being used at all 😢

Do you mean that you have a Roku tv with streaming channels already installed on the tv, or did you disconnect your Tivo to install a Roku Stick or box? I'm not an expert on Roku TV but it should work like most other smart TVs. I have a Visio with 4 hdmi inputs. I have my Bluray on one, an Amazon Firestick on one, and the Tivo on one. The antenna cable is attached directly to the Tivo. I can change inputs from one to the other and they all work and yours should too. Now having said that, I was having problems at first with the tv recognizing these devises. I had to replace my standard hdmi cords with 4k hdmi cords. This solved some of my problems, but I was still having trouble, so I went to my tv menu, and I disabled the "CEC" setting, which in essence made my smart tv into a dumb tv. However, everthing works now, and I can still watch all of the Visio included streaming apps. It may not be called "CEC" on your Roku, but check the manual and see if you can do this. Also, do you mean what is the difference between a Tivo for cable and a Tivo for antenna. If you are getting your local channels via a wall or roof top antenna, then you do not have the Tivo for cable version. That cable version will not work with an antenna. Please, if this doesn't answer your questions, feel free to reach out to me again.

So much depends on your expectations. This was not my first choice because it is extremely internet driven. I am more comfortable with a more traditional dvr with an HDMI hook up like the Tivo or the Tablo Hdmi. Thie Quad is highly recommended by online reviewers. However, if your internet goes out I don't think you can watch your recorded videos (but how often does that happen?). There is a newer model that may be available now that will conform with the atsc 3.0 standard for higher picture quality so make sure that is what you purchase if that is important to you.

@@deerparkhomeshop2471 if what is important to me? I told you my requirements. Btw internet is quite reliable where I moved to in Mass. With Verizon Fios. Unlike old Time Warner days in NY. Which btw improved under Spectrum. I hate everything else about Spectrum and have been good friends sadly with the Nationally in charge sales retention dept. Otherwise customer service went extinct under Time Warner. Sadly and it needs to be said in both companies CSR's don't know the difference between their asses and having a mild brain. this is probably a stupid question, but since i know nothing about tivo, do i have to sign up for each individual tv app, with passwords and usernames and c.c. info, to watch them on tivo? im assuming there are hundres of different channels, and it would be tiresome to have to go thru all that.

  • @deerparkhomeshop2471

Yes. Even though I was already signed in to all of my apps on my Roku, I had to sign in to everything again on the Tivo. Once you're signed in though, it works just like any other streaming device. Some of the apps are free, and you may, or may not, have to set up a password and register, but you won't have to pay a monthly fee to watch.

Hello Joseph. There may be a bit of a language barrier here. I'm assuming that Irish channels are your local antenna channels. Is your top box a dvr? When you refer to satellite channels, do yo mean like Dish Network or Direct TV or would these be streaming apps like Netflix?

I don't know this for a fact, but my guess is if the commercial skip feature is not available on a channel, it is because the network broadcaster probably has not imbedded the necessary begin/end markers in their signals. Either that, or maybe that network wants to much money from TiVo to enable the commercial skip. Like I say, that is just my guess, but why would TiVo not enable commercial skip if they otherwise could?

I agree, it's in Tivo's best interest to make it s available as possible, and it's probably an issue mostly with antenna TV. Tablo also advertises this feature and they charge you $2.00 more monthly to have it, but I suspect that it probably works just like Tivo. However I researched this and there is very little info available.

Tivo still makes the best DVR. It is unfortunate that they stayed with their proprietary app technology that prevented them releasing the newer streaming apps, And some of the ones they provide, like PLEX are horrible. I have been trying to find a way to replace my Tivo after being a loyal customer for 25 years just because of the app situation. I want one box, or at least interphase, that can do it all OTA+apps.

I know what you mean. 4K BluRay players do The same thing. They offer a few apps as a sales tool but there will always be favorite apps missing. We use our Roku or Firesticks for streaming and just switch inputs. Bit of a hassle, but we get all of our apps.

Good question. Is your household electrical current 220/240 volt or 110/120volt? The dvr itself operates on 12v & they supply a 12v to 120v adapter here in the US. On the world market, I imagine they would provide a different power adapter.

Heres a link (if I did it right) www.cnet.com/tech/home-entertainment/best-ota-dvr-for-cord-cutters/ The problem is that they are all manufactured at a similar level of quality, but when you're looking for an antenna DVR the field is definitely limited. My old CM DVR+ is 13 years old and it still works fine. I bought the TIVO because the guide on the CM only covers about 24 hours so its a pain to schedule recordings.
