Tip: When watching live TV that you are currently recording stay to the far left of the guide to select the channel that it is on (and not the recoding itself). After the recoding completes it will be easier to skip the commercials because you can see them below (with thumbnails)

Hi I live in Toronto and decided to buy the tablo 3rd generation from the tablo website directly. The 4th gen was specifically made for the American market. The tablo website tells canadians to purchase the 3rd gen and not the 4th. This is because the streaming channels available on the 4th gen are licensed only in the U.S. they will not work in canada. I bought the 3rd gen tablo and a 2tb external hard drive and I am very happy with it. The tablo works perfectly. I live in an apartment and use a antennas direct clearstream 4v outdoor antenna indoors with a televees amplifier and receive 46 channels. I used to use a GE indoor amplifier and found it was not bad for the price. I also used to use a clearstream 2 max with an amplifier and received the same 46 channels but sometimes some channels were unreliable that's why I decided to upgrade. Either way if I didn't use the amplifier I would lose alot of channels an amplifier is a must in my situation.

New tip!: Missing thumbnails for a recording? Press and quickly release the reset button on the bottom of the unit to do a reboot. Reboot is pretty quick ...and now your thumbnails are back for rewind and FF.

Thanks for the overview. I just picked one up for $10 at an Amazon return store. The app on my android phone is slow to respond as there is a noticeable lag.

I also notice a bit of lag on my phone app at times. $10 is a good deal though.

I’m currently holding on to the Quad 4 3rd generation Tablo since it stills allows away from home video. Still waiting for Apple TV App for new 4th gen Tablo before I’ll consider buying it

I would say yes- just install the Tablo app on the second Roku device and set it up to connect with your Tablo.

Can I use this Tablo wireless or have to be connected to my router?

As I said at 2:10 in the video, do what works best- if you have fast wifi at home then wireless should be OK, but if you find that the video lags a bit, connect it directly to your router with an ethernet cable.

Hey, I am located in Toronto and I have the Tablo up and running with 10 local channels. I don't get any of the free streaming channels. Do you know how I can get the free streaming channels with my OTA channels?

They are not available in Canada. A US zip code can be used to update the EPG guide and the streaming channels will probably scan in.

Question; if one uses a splitter, can an antenna cable be left hardwired to the television? If so, would you choose the input source on screen?

@@joeprete7424 Yes, absolutely. The TV tuner could receive your antenna signals and the Tablo would as well. You could switch input sources on the television (‘TV’ would be antenna channels and Tablo on whatever you have it connected by (Roku via HDMI, etc.

Agreed. Although there are only two of us in my house, the modest price difference gives the option of recording two different shows and watching a third or fourth. Not likely, but you never know.

Unfortunately after being out for almost a year still no app for AppleTV

This is what stops me from buying it to replace my older Tablo.

If you have lousy tv antenna reception, Tablo does nothing to correct it.

A tuner won’t solve an antenna problem. The antenna will need to be adjusted, moved or replaced.

Got one of these and do not recommend it, it has numerous bugs and at times I have to remove the power from it to reboot it when it becomes unresponsive. Also, the tuners are just not as sensitive as my Samsung TV. If your signals are a bit lower expect weird behavior like "Unknown Error" during playback and failed recordings. Also there is no Windows app, only Roku and Google TV etc. so I had to purchase some Google TV devices to use it.

Ever try adding a thumb drive, rather than a hard drive?

I haven’t tried that yet. With the 128 GB built in drive I should be good for awhile; I don’t tend to record a lot of shows.

I like mine but have to admit that periodically it loses its connection, and I'm located in a great spot. Not the end of the world but if you're watching an NFL game it may or may not work. My internet is good and I connected mine through an ethernet cable.

Well that answers one question: without 'Live Internet' access the Tablo is a paper weight.

The whole point of the Tablo is to cast OTA channels wirelessly thoughout the home.

I'm in Florida. It's not very impressive. 74 channels. I attached it to the ethernet, and for some reason, it gets fewer channels if I turn on antenna amplified? I don't get CBS?

How many over the air channels do you usually receive? Is 74 the channel count with the free streaming channels included? Try running a channel scan with the an amplifier off. Especially if you already have an antenna with an amplifier or preamplifier.
