I want you to know that every time I want to find this video I search “Tim holds back his curry”. Always gets me here 😂

Honestly, the fact he's holding back the laughter adds so much to the character. Instead of being some super serious Soviet badass, he's like a smiling bureaucrat who is excessively pleased with himself. It's kind of creepy now that I think about it, but it's also just great. Oh, and the "SPACE" line gets me every time.

Losing it with grace the entire time.

He started out very strong but you can see when he starts to think about what he’s saying that he starts to realize the absurdity of the line, before almost losing it, and then triumphantly exclaiming “SPACE!”

I love that the Soviet actors had such a blast shooting this. Also love that they leaned into the B movie aesthetic, Tim killed this role

seeing him try to not burst into laughter is so good because you know he failed several times

I felt so bad when I learned Tim Curry suffered a stroke that nearly completely paralyzed him. Such a fun and charismatic actor doesn’t deserve to be silenced like that. I hope he recovers!

I seem to recall that he's gotten a bit annoyed over people's well-wishes. To be fair, it's not like he died, so I can understand his irritation.

I have a special love for actors like Tim Curry and Nicolas Cage. They love their jobs/art and have fun. So sad Tim Curry had a stroke and is in wheelchair :( I loved all his performances in all his movies. He was always much fun.

The space part is probably my all time favorite quote from Tim in Red Alert, it's just so random and the way he almost bursts out laughing is just the icing on the cake.

"Should we do another take?" "No, we got it." "Oh... Ok"

I mean, that guy is the supreme chairman of Soviet union, has the miracle commander steamrolling allies, all those hot women around and he is blasting off into freaking space. Living the dream.

Ironically, rather than break character, most of the time that works well with the character. His betrayal can be seen coming. But that wide smile and cheerful attitude kinda lowers your guard. Other times, it gives away his madness.

I'd still like to say that my favorite fact about RA3's development is that they PHYSICALLY could NOT get Tim Curry to do the Space line without giggling or laughing. The original line wasn't supposed to, but he LITERALLY COULDN'T STOP HIMSELF after 8 takes, so they decided "Fuck it." And put it in the game with the giggling intact.

8 takes is not alot at all, im sure this was planned, cause the other ones are similar too. They know what they where doing Its not unusual to do 40 takes if shit doesnt work. The fact they only did 8 speaks volumes

According to Joshua Basche, assistant cinematics editor for RA3, this was the first take: "It’d be these long takes of them just sitting there reading a teleprompter as lines came up. It was towards the end of the day, and you could kind of tell Curry was tired, he wanted to get out of there. But then that line comes up. And you saw the smile pop onto his face when he read it through first. The first take was that take. It’s so bombastic. It’s so fantastic. I think he did exactly what he wanted to do." But who knows, they might've done a bunch of takes and eventually decided on the first one anyway.

I will miss Tim Curry. Too bad he had a stroke so he's wheelchair bound now. I will forever remember him on his films and cartoon characters he has voiced in the past.

There's incredible acting from incredible actors, and then there's Tim Curry in this game clinging to this character with every last fibre of his being. That is some strength and willpower in acting there!

You know, I'd really love to see the outtakes from the "I'm escaping to the one place that hasn't been corrupted by capitalism..." line. I cannot imagine they got that in one take.

If anything, it adds to the performance. The primer is a very eccentric and exuberant character, so him always on the verge of geeking just makes sense.

Honestly Tim Curry has never had a bad performance both in live action and voice-overs. Everything from him is just gold. 😂
