Thurman vs Garcia FULL FIGHT: March 4, 2017 - PBC on Showtime

On March 4, 2017, Keith Thurman (28-0, 22 KOs) unified boxing’s glamour division with a split-decision victory over Danny Garcia (33-1, 19 KOs) on Saturday, defending his WBA belt and picking up Garcia’s WBC crown on boxing’s biggest stage in primetime on CBS from Barclays Center, the home of BROOKLYN BOXING™.
Keith Thurman built his “One Time” reputation by piling up knockouts on his way to winning a world title. But to beat Danny Garcia and pronounce himself as the true king of the 147-pound division, he had to rely on his full array of skills for 12 rounds.
Thurman had just enough in his toolbox to finish the job and earn a split decision over Garcia to unify 147-pound world titles before a crowd of 16,533 in the highest attended boxing match at Barclays Center.
In an increasingly tactical fight, Thurman earned winning scores of 116-112 and 115-113 from judges John McKaie and Joe Pasquale, respectively, while Kevin Morgan had it 115-113 for Garcia.
The bout was just the 10th title unification in division history, and only the third between a pair of unbeaten fighters.
Both 28-year-old champions were uncharacteristically aggressive early on as Thurman looked to establish his power and Garcia used his left hook with effectiveness in a pair of action-packed rounds to open the bout.
The fight became more measured as it progressed with Thurman relying on his lateral movement to disrupt Garcia’s timing before attacking.
By the end of Round 4, Thurman had caused swelling under the right eye of Garcia, a former unified 140-pound champion who was fighting in his eighth world title bout.
Garcia continued to score with his left hook through the middle rounds, although he was warned for a low blow in the seventh.
It was in the second half of the fight that Thurman showed the extent of his talents as he doubled up on his jab and landed a couple of solid right uppercuts in Round 9.
With Garcia resigned at times to sit back and wait for Thurman to provide openings, the Barclays crowd grew restless in the 10th and tried to exhort the Philadelphia native with chants of “Dan-ny, Dan-ny.”
Following that round, Thurman’s trainer, Dan Birmingham, encouraged his charge to “box smart” down the stretch with the belief that he was ahead on the cards.
Thurman pulled back the reins over the final two rounds and was content to use his movement to stay out of range. Garcia forced the Clearwater, Florida, native to engage him over the final minute, but in the end it wasn’t enough to pull out the victory.
According to CompuBox statistics, Thurman landed 147 of 570 total punches (26 percent) compared to 130 of 434 (30 percent) for Garcia. Thurman also connected on 102 of 275 power shots (37 percent), while Garcia landed 89 of 222 (40 percent).

Met these two one night, separatelly. Took a picture with both, Danny didn't even acknowlege me, Keith Thurman hung out with my sister and i for 10 or 15 minutes. Vast difference in the character of both, you can imagine who i was rooting for. Big fan of my boy Keith

@Jacob SirakThat might make sense if the resume argument was used evenly but Lopez had no resume for an IBF title bout. Kovalev was signed to fight a kid with 6 fights. Spinks fought Ali for his 8th fight. Granados fought Porter and Broner back to back when he had under 10 fights and lost to both. Canelo was 41-0 with ZERO ranked opponents and had no resume for Mayweather. The list goes on. No one objectived to Garcia fighting Pacquiao. People are ok with Vergil Ortiz v Crawford etc. Resume is only used when the Hispanic boxing community doesn't want their fighter to lose to someone Black for the most part. There are too many double standards.
Damn sad to say this and the Porter fight was peak Thurman 😢

The velocity and speed on Thurmans punches were absolutely incredible and Danny’s chin is insane anybody else would’ve been out.
Thurman is one of my favorite fighters to watch, he's a little cringe at times but i love when he's fighting and not talking lol

The way to defeat a slow flat footed counter puncher like Garcia is to not stay in pocket too long 1 2 in and out he’s completely neutralised
What a year for boxing! Feels like this was just yesterday, hard to believe it was nearly 4 years ago. Miss these days, now I am finding myself watching more UFC to fill the void (no more good fights to look forward to so far for 2021).

Thurman was never really the same after this fight, at least to me. Injuries and long layoffs affected him...

@N We're in full agreement on that. Bud needs to fight actual high profile fighters at WW for me to consider him the best. Personally I prefer Spence and absolutely think he's the best in the division right now. If Bud doesn't fight Spence he needs to fight Porter or Ugas to gain real traction in my eyes. I still like him, but his time at WW has been pretty meh unfortunately. Back to Mikey, youre not wrong. He at least got busy and did a fight to get back on his feet so he's already ahead of Thurman in that regard. Time to target some real opponents.
Thurman rounds 1,2,3,6,7,9 Garcia rounds 4,5.8,10,11,12 Draw Some close rounds,Thurman prob landed the more power shots to the head,but took the tenth and eleventh off,and the last round was close as well as others,Thurman would always try and awnser a combo back and also steal the round with an eye catching combo ,but Danny won last 3 rounds ,i.m.o so draw,

I have already watched this more times than I can remember
I think Thurman started running around late on in this fight b'cos he injured his arm/shoulder. Very close fight imo. Split-decision for Thurman or a draw. I don't know if Garcia still fights. I'd have liked to see him Vs Tszyu rather than Thurman or Fundora. He's such an effective counter-puncher. He certainly checked Thurman's usual well-timed offensive style.
That right hand Thurman hit Garcia with at the end of the 1st sorta looked like the same shot Canelo knocked out Khan with
