I feel like people get stuck on the fact that Thrawn uses art to understand a species so he can better his battle tactics. However, I think a lot of people miss the point here. It's not the art itself. It's the fact that he learns a species' culture, beliefs, military, and government. He seems to have two major hobbies, art and the alien equivalent to anthropology. He uses art as a way to hone his perception of other species, but his real strength relies on understanding their entire culture. I'm glad I found this video as it does a great job of making this distinction. Thrawn isn't a tactical genius just because he likes art. I could study French art all the live long day, and someone like Napoleon would still destroy me in combat. There is simply more to war than brute force, and Thrawn understands that.

Because that character is not Thrawn in Kennedyfilm's canon, that's Vurawn, who was an absolute chump in Rebels and Ahsoka.

Thrawn surviving Bilbringi is one of the most fascinating 'what ifs' in the SW universe; on one hand, his victory over the NR at Bilbringi is tainted by the destruction of Wayland's cloning facility and C'baoth's death, yet the public loses more faith in the NR being able to protect them from the returning Empire's might. Had Thrawn survived, it would've been cool to see how Palpatine's return and the future Vong War would've been handled.

So Thrawn's empire takes over coruscant and destroyes the new Republic. I guess that it could go in 2 ways once the Emperor reemerges: a) Thrawn understands the power of Sidious and decides to continue serving him for the benefit of the galaxy and they succesfully defend against the vong (if luke doesn't defeat the emperor). b) He doesn't thinking that Dark Empire being weaker militarily than the rest of the Empire under his rule, the emperor (although weaker than in rotj) ruines his fleat with force storms, Thrawn is killed the emperor is killed by Luke like in the comic, the NR is restored and resumes the war but is much weaker than in the actual legends canon, Palleons empire wins the war but the galaxy is greatly weakened the vong come and destroy everything.

My face went through so many emotions like that one WWE announcer when I saw the upload, the topic of the video, and the timelength.

It should be noted that Zaarin gave Thrawn a run for his money like no one else did with far fewer resources, actually forcing Thrawn to retreat twice and nearly killing the Chiss Grand Admiral in one ambush. It took Thrawn over half a year with the full support of the Empire's military forces to finally kill Zaarin and the remainder of that year to hunt down the remnants of Zaarin's forces in the Unknown Regions, which along with the conflict with Nuso Esva, was why Thrawn was not available for the Battle of Endor. That Zaarin was largely successful in his campaign of crippling the Empire's ability to manufacture advanced starfighters, nearly killed the two most powerful Sith Lords in a thousand years and handed the greatest military mind in galactic history defeat more than once proves his ability as a commander as well as his brilliance as an inventor of peerless starfighters like the TIE Avenger and TIE Defender.

There's an exceptional updated mod for it called TIE Fighter Total Conversion (TFTC for short) You can find both on KZread with a simple search. I'd also recommend the video on Grand Admiral Demetrius Zaarin from the KZread channel Galactic Empire Star Wars.

Honestly Legends overall is so much more interesting than Canon, while there are some things that Canon handles better the worldbuilding and multitude of different stories that told in Legends just can't be topped

I agree. Original Thrawn trilogy. Bane Trilogy & Plagueis are all books I loved. I kinda have minor issues with all of them, but nothing’s perfect.

@@jameskennedy8030 Well, Lucas Canon isn't the entirety of the Old Canon. It stands rather for the G-Canon in the Old Canon's hierarchy of canon which is the most canon story you can get. And it's basically the 1-6 saga. He didn't care about the rest (T, C, S canons, which combined with G form now called Legends continuity).

It's really annoying how many fans criticize Thrawn, arguing that he is just a copy of Tarkin. Although both characters have some similarities, they are really different. Thrawn is analytical while Tarkin is obstinated. In fact, the destruction of Alderaan can serve as an example. While Tarkin didn't wink at the time of giving the order (causing a massive joinment to the Rebel Alliance), Thrawn would have never done that knowing the consecuences.

I've never heard the argument of Thrawn being a Tarkin copy paste. They're completely different. Tarkin was born into nobility and his doctrine could be summed up as outnumber and overwhelm your enemy. Thrawn worked his way up through society, facing an uphill battle against nepotism and xenophobia and had the ability to try and win battles using as little resources as possible.

I don't quite think the "lifting" (some would say copying) of things from "Legends" (the term EU applies more in this scenario because we're talking about the old continuity where as "Legends" is just a rebranding for "everything that isn't canon" which includes the Infinities stories which were never canon to begin with) is really something to be celebrated. Considering the fact that the official reason for the EU being decanonized was to give authors "creative freedom" (come on, we all know that they just dont want to pay royalties to the authors see Allen Dean Foster for reference) it's kind of insulting, let alone going back on their promise to give us something new and original, to just take things from "legends" and call it "canon". Its lazy, uncreative and makes the whole decanonizing of the EU incredibly pointless. But, I mean, if plagiarizing a painting is considered "artistically done" then so be it.

@@Manda-LORE Well, the "EU" is not entirely adequate either as it no longer expands on the only sw universe but rather stands as a separate one. "Legends universe" "Legends continuity" or simply the "Old Canon", that's how we should call it. We have Disney SW most of which is part of the New Canon, though some of it like Visions isn't, and SW Legends, most of which is part of the Old Canon but which also has stories within it that are non canon to it's continuity. But among fans it's pretty clear that if we call something Legends it means that it's part of legends canon if it doesn't (and is not part of the new canon either) then we call it simply non canon. That's also how wookiepedia handles it.

bro you need to check your facts, Thrawn graduated from the imperial academy on Corasaunt , second his first commission was not that of a Col but as a Lt. Commander. Also, Thrawn had nothing to do with discovering the Rebel base on Hoth as he was busy im the Lothal system. Also, you never once mentioned the Lt that was assigned to him as his interpreter. The beginning of your video was solid, but then you seemed to leave canon.

Thrawn and Thrass were not brothers. They had no relation and did not meet until Thrawn was inducted into the Mith family (he was born Kivu) in 39 BBY. They were paired by the Mith patriarch in 39BBY because it was thought the Thrass could be the political anchor Thrawn needed. Even later than that, Thrawn and Thrass unofficially referred to each other as "brothers" for the first time in a tactical situation with a rival family. Thrass called Thrawn his "brother" (which implies Mith blood, something Thrawn did not have) to help him elude the Roscu family attempts to commandeer a pirate bounty which Thrawn won. That pirate bounty was the gravity well generator which was key to helping Thrawn defeat the Grysk hegemony -- and saving the entire Chess Ascendecy.

This is Expanded Universe Thrawn (legends), you're referencing the Disney Canon novels. Thrass wasn't Thrawn's blood brother in the EU either, but they were both merit adoptives into the 8th ruling family

A 'complete' biography of Thrawn cannot be truly complete if it ignores such an in-depth portrayal of his time with the Ascendency. @Seamus Payne Yes, same as when I go to a video thinking its Legends when it turns out to be disney canon. And I believe folks are intelligent enough to decipher, especially when the imagery in the thumbnail is specifically Thrawn's depiction from the Expanded Universe (no pupils, napolonic style epaulets). And if folks were confused and mistook it for his canon story, they'd be quick to figure out from the lack of mention of events from Rebels that it isn't the case and I hope they learn a thing or 2 about the EU and perhaps become interested in it themselves to do some further reading.

Thrawn was the 1st Grand Admiral created by the Emperor for the Empire. You need to check your sources because your story weaves in and out of canon and legends

One of the few characters that was better in cannon than legends, mostly because they had 6 books to flesh out his origins and thoughts in cannon
