Thank you! I drove the car for about 40,000km and spent about $11,000 USD in spare parts to make it as perfect as I could. Lots of poor quality chromed plastic. The wheels were next, 1st gen rims look very respectable, compared to the Opirus ones the car had!

When the Equus was first came out, it was a symbol of a successful life in Korea. Most of people dreamed about sitting in the back seat of black Hyundai Equus with being chauffered at that time. One thing you should know is The wheels of the Equus in this video are not original factory Equus wheel. That wheels and its center caps are from Kia Opirus (original Korean version of Kia Amanti that you know.) In my guess somebody changed it when car was in Korea before imported.

I was working Seoul at the time and the company I was working for allocated me one of these along with a driver. If you've ever tried to drive in Seoul you understand why you have to have a driver. I'm English and I could never get anywhere because I was trained with, oh what was it? Oh yes, traffic rules. Foreigners were a lot better off in the backs of cars and because of what I was doing on behalf of a major animation studio they gave me one of these. And yes, my driver made sure to have my seat warm when he brought the car around. I never cared about performance, I cared about that passenger seat cutout which I used every day being driven to and from my office. Was I embarrassed about being luxuriously chauffeured around in a foreign country? Absolutely, but at the urging of my Korean colleagues, I got used to it. It is a car designed for a specific application, and that is to move the upper echelons of society (and a filthy foreigner who conned his way into a plum assignment) from point A to point B with the minimum of interaction with the world outside. It is in fact, a single person limo.

I lived in Seoul back then as well. I drove a 1991 Kia Capital and never had any problems getting around. They probably gave you a chauffeured car because you're English and would have caused an accident if you drove yourself.

I remember when I was a kid in Korea seeing these and thinking whoever's in that car must be super rich ! haha.. The Equus, Benz and BMW was like a status symbol during the early 2000s. Funny stories include bunch of those Equuss' in rich neighborhoods in Seoul would have that winged emblems gone missing because thieves would pluck them off and sell em! There were actual people who'd buy them to put it on their cars and the Equuss' owners would buy them back to have them stolen again XD. Also Equus was known to have a big trunk so kids would talk on the streets horror stories about Equus owners' being Korean gangsters in need of a big trunk to hide corpses ...

You mentioned it was co-developed with Mitsubishi, and I'm intrigued that you say that because the rear-end tail lights look EXACTLY like the same year model Mitsubishi diamante (just with orange colored bottom lenses instead of clear). I noticed that right off the bat! It's as if they couldn't be bothered to make their own tail lights and just said, "meh, we'll use the ones off the diamante."

At 7:00, it says "주행중" in Korean, which means "driving." Hyundai (by Korea's law) disabled the front TV when the car was in Drive. HOWEVER, if you tweak some stuff in the infotainment screen, you were able to override it. This car was pretty awesome in Korea back when I was young. BTW at 12:30 it's just a bunch of numbers to call when you need customer service, and roadside assistance. In case your 2002 Equus breaks down, call 82-2-404-8204 :)

that rear seat heat button is actually genius because you can preheat the seat before picking up your "Korean executive." The hook in the trunk spare tire cover is also to hook the cover to the edge of the trunk to hold it open while you pull out the tire change equipment too. My Chrysler has that.

The "Passenger Rear Seat Heating" is when the schaufeur must preheat the seat for his boss, so that the boss will sit in a warm seat, instead of waiting for it to warm up. That, is clever...

Hall, church, stadium, and club are highly used reverb/EQ characteristics. Actually very common pro audio terms.

why would you want the inside of your car to sound like a stadium?

thmsodonoghue reverb adds a lot of depth and sonic quality. A small amount of tasteful reverb can really add to a surround sound playback. The different types of reverb (Hall, stadium, plate, etc.) all have different qualities and colors that can be tailored to the listener or the musician’s taste. The effect isn’t as dramatic as you think it is.

Don't you think the musician would account for their desired amount reverb in the final mix of the song? There is no way in hell a car stereo can match the sound system in a club or arena so why even pretend to try?

thmsodonoghue Yes! They do! Countless hours go into mixing and mastering a song a certain way. Personally, I hate overlaying reverb and effects on a playback device but some people like it. To each their own.
