‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣ THIS EPISODE ‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣
Rocky Mountain National Park is quickly becoming one of our very favorites! We planned on heading out after 4 days but scored 2 more nights in what might be the best camp site in a park we have ever had!
In last week's episode, we spent the whole day exploring Rocky Mountain NP and hanging out in our campsite inside the park, but in this one, we get to explore just outside the park entrance to learn more about the history of Estes Park and the infamous Stanley Hotel!
One tip for finding things to do in an area is to check out Google maps for local museums and historical societies and check their websites or Facebook pages to see if they have any events going on while you are in the area. We happened to luck out and get a tour of the Birch Cabin and the Birch Ruins with some wonderful folks from the Estes Park Museum. So much beauty and history all in one little town!
After our incredible tour, we explored all of the amazing shops in the downtown area of Estes Park, the best of which was The Taffy Shop founded in 1935 and the only taffy shop in town that actually makes their own taffy in-house!
Though we didn’t take the full tour of the Stanley Hotel, you can walk around the grounds which include the garden maze, enjoy the foyer and the downstairs for free!
After a quick dinner, we headed back out for a stunning walk around Lily Lake just a few miles outside of the park. This is a wonderful stop to veiw the sunset and is handicap accessible! We took a little trail off the main path to find an incredible view and the last rays of sun for the day.
Stay tuned for the next episode as we get up for the earliest sunrise to date! Be sure to like and subscribe and click on the bell icon for notifications when we release new videos!
Don’t wait to live your life, find your 🔆SOMEDAY🔆 now!

My grandkids wouldn't get up early to hike up the side of a cliff to see a sunrise. Not even for the donuts. You're two in a million. I wish I could hug the stuffing out of you. The cool thing about this episode, is that I live here. Seeing it from your perspective was a lot of fun. The Stanley actually is haunted, but I believe in a good way. I took my kids there when they were young, it's something none of us will ever forget, we talk about it to this day, 15 years later. So much to do, the Elk are always the best part, along with Laura's dark chocolate Toffee and their waffle cone, Pecan ice cream. :)❤️ I'm so glad you guys had such a great time and I hope you'll come back soon. I have a cabin up on Storm Mountain, outside of Estes, where I have a birds eye view of Longs Peak and Pikes Peak.

omg medicine bow Wy. My first husband was from there. I'm of course from Denver. Anyway I worked at an open pit uranium mine. Right outside medicine bow. I only lasted about 4 months I was a t-prober. So I'd have to flag off the ore just for the big Earth movers to come run over the flags just to do it all over again. I only lasted a bout 4.5 months. Because it was the dead of winter & with the wind chill 40 to 60° below every night. I worked graveyard shift. Trying to get those little red metal flags into that frozen ground 🤣😂🤣 I was 19 yrs old. I made $19.00@hr. That's a TON of MONEY for 1976!!! 😂 Looking forward to it guys!

@Finding Our Someday 😂yea I got spoiled at a young age for earning good money.Wy. back in those years in efforts to encourage women to move to the state to get more women in Wy.. So they were hiring women for jobs that normally men would do. At the same wage. Until age 28 I worked all over Wy. with no less than $16@hr. Various jobs what would have been considered men type jobs I guess. But it was all women. With the exception of the uranium mine. 🤣 Here's a little tidbit. Wy. was the First state to recognize women in efforts of getting equal pay. I can't wait for the vid. I've Loved this series Co and now Wy. Old stomping grounds.🤣 Thanks again for sharing, love you guys🥰.And as always safe and happy travels ✌️🥰 PLEASE NO need to reply back. You guys are just way too busy for that! And so kind to respond first time around. I don't know how you keep up with it.🥰

We moved out here in 2006 and used to frequent RMNP every weekend for hiking and fishing and we would hang out in Estes Park after. A few years before COVID we stopped going because of how crowded it became. We have been scouting places to move up north the last couple of years in Montana and Wyoming, which is going to take a bit longer than expected. In the meantime, I think we are going to make RMNP a regular thing until we move thanks to you guys. We didn't know how much we missed it, until now. Thanks for taking us along for the ride, you have renewed some excitement within us!

My family has a cabin not far from Estes. If you ever get a chance to visit in late October it is truly magical. When the crowds have gone and the town is winding down, and it's quite, and the trees are brilliant in their Fall colors, it's near perfection. If you time it just right, for first snow, it is perfection. Also, the Stanley is an awesome place to stay, when it's not hot weather, because the rooms have no AC. You will feel like you're in the early 1900s. It's worth the price for a truly authentic experience, and to porch-sit after sunset with a cocktail...unforgettable!

Greeting again from Mike the Museum docent. Thank you for promoting our tours and the town. The slash piles at Lily Lake and in the Park are made by the Park Service. They are to mitigate fire damage and are burned in the winter when there is snow on the ground and safer to burn. The other thing I want to mention is that quite a few of the buildings downtown are original buildings that were built in the early 1900's, most between 1905 and 1917. They have gone through renovations and functions but are the original buildings. Have fun, travel safe, and come visit again. There are many other great hikes in the Park.

Yes to sugar spaghetti sauce! Growing up in Co. Our much older neighbor was from Sicily. She made her meat sauce for 3 to 5 days in pressure cooker. The smell was intoxicating. One of her great nieces would come stay with them a week or so in the summer. We became friends and I got to actually eat her spaghetti with that sauce just ONE time.. But I still remember to this day how it tasted. It is the BEST sauce I've ever ate in my life. Thanks for the epic views.. I love Estes Park. It's one of my favorite places in Co Northern mountains! As always safe and happy travels ✌️🥰 wow the pool was still there when myself and my family went around 2010? Had three levels of beautiful patios leading down to the pool. Nice video. You guys certainly are living a great life. I really like Estes park and would love to own a cabin nearby one day. One of the stops on your tour (right after the cabin on the top of the hill) is next to a tree that has a geocache from another KZreadr (Switch It Up). We have hiked Lily lake many times because it is easier for kids than many other trails in/near Estes and RMNP. So beautiful. I am really enjoying your Colorado series.

More great memories. We visited RMNP 30 years ago in 1992! We did Trail Ridge Road, Estes Park, Bear Lake, and attempted Longs Peak (seen @ 5:30 etc. I can't believe I made it to 13,200 ft. The remainder on the climb to the 14,255 summit is along a sheer face with a 3,000 ft drop. My brother-in-law did summit! The Estes Park history and cabin tour was neat. I didn't know all of that.

"Visited" RMNP Sept 5th on my way to Devils Tower and the Black Hills. I entered at Estes Park (Rt 34), not the Beaver Meadows entrance (Rt 36). Besides taking my Sprinter camper (named Lily, no relation) to 12,200 ft, I was not impressed. It was a timed entry decision. Boy, did I mess up. And Estes, OMG! Thanks for giving me tips for making it right, the next time.

We go up to Estes/RMNP about 3 times a year and enjoy every minute. My top 3 National Parks are still Glacier, Teton, and Yosemite but RMNP is second to non when comes to wildlife. The elk beards on the east side and the moose on the west, it’s a great park. Somehow my wife always suckers me into a ton of taffy every time we walk the streets in Estes. If we don’t get the taffy, it’s like we never went there. 😂. Glad to see you enjoyed yourself. You’ll enjoy Medicine Bow, we dry camped up in that area about 2 months ago.
