@@jenniferroberson947 I’m 57 but I have only recently started trying to get back into wearing makeup and in my wandering around KZread to find older more mature women doing makeup videos. I have come across two women who are absolutely gorgeous women both inside and out, that may help or be an inspiration for your mum. The first one I came across has just turned 81 her channel is called rxstrmom the second channel is called Beauty Over 70 with Lea. These two women have become such an inspiration to me, my goal is now to be able to be just like them when I get to their ages, not just still being able to do their makeup well but their attitude to life, being so grateful and not taking themselves to seriously. New here, I have both baggy and red under eyes AND hooded eyes. The dark color on your shadow mirrors the ugliness of the circles under my eye. How can I balance it all out? 68, need to work, all I can do is Background work on TV shows filmed locally (Chicago) and I am near the top cut-off age that the hiring agency even glances at. Scary as hell for me, as if we don't count.

I’m 50, I wear about 4 colours at a time, it’s all about blending, really. You can still wear it you know (if you want to) don’t be shamed by young lasses on social media making you feel old age irrelevant. I had a brief phase of feeling I couldn’t do bold eye makeup looks. Glad I got over that! My eyes are quite old looking now, I have that fold of skin that hangs over the bottom lid. A good eyelid primer works total wonders. I needed this wakeup call. I've bought so many eyeshadow palettes that I don't need; I don't want to think about the money wasted since I let myself be influenced by social media. I was lucky enough (in high school in the late '70s when I was starting to apply makeup) to come across Way Bandy's Designing Your Face in my local library. For decades, I did my eyeshadow with a "medium-toned, fleshy, warm brown" and a "dark-toned, greyed, earth-brown) eyeshadow. I can still enjoy an elaborate look for special events, but I'm planning to go back to just creating shadows that hopefully look "natural" on my skintone.

Thanks for keeping it real, Wayne. For the last several years I’ve been trying to use a lid shade, a crease shade, a transition shade, a highlight shade, and a browbone shade. Finally, I said screw it. I don’t have time for this. I have to get on with my day. I went back to using one, maybe two shades and mascara. What I found was that my eyes looked much prettier and younger with far less eyeshadow. I’m almost 52 and all those shadows were making me look old and tired no matter how expensive they were, how much time I spent on the eye look, or how well I blended the shadows.

I know my face, know my skin concerns, know how my favorite products wear and what applications wear well on my troubled skin. I'm confident in my skills and frankly, I've been a bridesmaid where I was appalled at the artists' kits, brush quality, poor color matching, and professionalism. I think a lot of my friends who opted for the traditional bridal look with the camel-style fake lashes didn't look like themselves. The ones who DID had the natural features that that style complements. I'm 32 and the "last gal standing," as most of my friends got married in their 20's.

I needed this video because I have also felt the need to make my eyeshadow more elaborate in order to “fit in” with the eyeshadow enthusiast crowd. Social media is something I’ve gotten rid of and I’m only 30, but life has honestly been great without it! Lately I’ve been enjoying a more curated application so it is so much faster and fun to do my eyeshadow now. Loved this video and it was definitely reassuring 🖤

Wayne, you have hit the nail on the head, THANK YOU, not only is it complicated its cost me a fortune , every time I watch a makeup artist i'm out to Sephora buying a new palette of eye shadow, Then when Im ready to go out Im clueless as to what the heck color am I suppose to use? Im lost !!! Im starting to feel like this whole industry is getting rich off of us buying a ll these products. I was so in love with this world and now Im sadly sitting here with a ton of product and no face to put it on , Well I'll just keep watching your channel and hopefully I'll learn the truth ... Thank you for making this right !

This is it. This right here. What's the old addage??? "Less is more." I add many times a creme eyeshadow, a simple upper lid liner, mascara, foundation. If I put on makeup at all. Social media has these girls using half a bottle of foundation in one application + concealer + powder + everything else. It's insane. I'm 54 and have never used false lashes in my life. I never will. Why bother? Mine are fine with a little mascara. I don't need to look like Kim K. I don't want to look like that. Thanks for pointing out the simplest things Wayne.

That is almost exactly what I wore on my eyes for the entire time I was in high school. A neutral brown sparkly shadow on the lid and in the crease and black mascara. Sometimes I would tight line upper and lower lids with eyeliner but not always. I kept my makeup simple and fresh and looking back on it now, I really loved it. Pop on a mauvy colored blush and some lip gloss and I was good to go. I miss those days!!! My whole makeup routine would fit in a small makeup bag. No primer, no setting spray, no bronzer/contour, no highlighter, and no brow products lol. Just tweezed them neatly because mine are dark brown anyways. Usually you only needed a little powder compact to touch up and your gloss to reapply after eating or kissing lol. We need to get back to that. People don't realize how insane they look sometimes with a hundred different products on their face. It may look great when your in full lighting and taking photos but out in the sunlight it's just too much and looks so fake tbh. That's just my opinion though. Beauty is subjective so to each their own!!

Not only the great points you mentioned Wayne, I feel the eye shadow techniques are making everyone look similar Its all the same, darker outer corner, transition shade, glitter in the middle, and paler in inner corner 😆 nope darker outer corner and those browny transition shades look awful on my grey blue eyes and skin tone. I like 1 colour usual a pale grey or lilac with sparkles sometimes, a baby wing liner, mascara and eyes are done to suit my round eyes. Thank you for reiterating the social media nonsense. All do you ❤

And when I see their posts, I am in awe of their talent and artistry, but I never feel pressure to follow trends. They enjoy makeup and I enjoy watching their creativity. Wayne, it's so nice to see you doing the same technique I've been doing for the last 10 years. I'm going to be 53 soon, and a mixture of shaky hands and worsening eyesight (without my glasses) makes it hard for me to do much with makeup. I've found even just one color on the eyelid with this tightlining helps pop the eyes, even without mascara. I've followed you for many years now (back when you only had about 200k followers) and I've always appreciated the knowledge you provide, along with kindness and compassion for those of us that won't ever be a model. Much love and continued success!

Your thoughts/view about eye shadow to be used to enhance your eyes holds true when it comes to mascara as well. I had always thought it was to enhance the eye and not to look like big, thick, spiky lashes. To me that caterpillar lash looks ridiculous and takes away from the eye itself. As always, thank you so much for your common sense approach. ❤
