This Paint Was the Hardest I've Ever Polished - Brewster Green 992 GT3 Touring

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This car was pretty much making me hate life for the first 80% of it, until I bought some Griot's Fast Correcting Cream. It took care of all the challenges I seemed to be having. Up until now, I have never run into a scenario where having Jescar and Sonax perfect finish did not get me 90% of the way there. This paint is unique, and I don't know exactly why the Griots worked so well but it did.

Great video, appreciate all your feedback on what you used, how you did it, and all of semi-pro detailers have had this frustration with certain cars, so thanks for sharing this experience on your Porsche. Just proof that buying a new car has disadvantages sometimes, no matter how much you spend. This story is one very similar to one I’ve had recently with a used black 997.2 I purchased. I tried several compounds to get the myriad of Clearcoat and paint scratches the previous owner never bothered to correct and I think used the “I see it’s dusty or dirty so I’ll use a micro fiber and spray wax method” which also added to nightmare of swirls and scratches. Griots correcting cream was the only thing that seemed to work and actually restored the finish without a tremendous amount of effort. It took 90% of the scratches out, and saved the car. Griots is overpriced in my opinion for some products, but their correcting cream is the real deal, and is worth the money. Their perfecting cream is also good, and their actual polishers they sell are also top notch. For certain projects and cars, Griots is a great option….

That sux to hear about the paint issues. When I was young working at a dealership, new cars for a while were coming in with horrific paint issues. We were guessing they were shipping the cars with too fresh soft paint and the diesel exhaust was in-bedding into the paint during transport. Loved the pink car jokes big time Matt...I was LMAO! I did race livery on my 992 GT3 Cup car. Porsche paint umis water based for the environment...it's weak and hard to maintain....so I always wrap. You can see them on my channel. Edit: Ineven did a full clear wrap on my 2021 Land Cruiser Heritage Edition (2021 was the final year for the LC in the US, after 62 years of production...and the new ones sold outside the US are not naturally aspirated V8s...they are turbo or diesel 6 cylinders. Toyota paint is heartier than Porsche paint, but I'll have this collector SUV in my collection forever...so I got it wrapped.

For me, the Mirka is a non-starter without a trigger lock. When you have to hold a trigger like that with your finger, it locks up your arm and causes a lot more fatigue. Also isn't going to be good for guys who have been detailing a long time and already have nerve and joint issues. If they could fix that, they might have something. Fast Correcting Cream is great stuff (easily one of their best products) but i think The Last Cut compound checks all the same boxes with more cut and better finish.

I can't wait for the experiment with the Opti-Coat Pro 3 under the PPF. The amount of crap people talked on that facebook post was amazing. Does OPT still tout Opti-Coat as a permanent coating? I remember years back with their Pro version they described the science that it actually became a part of the clearcoat and wasn't removable. Would suck if the experiment went south and this was still the case. There'd still be the coating I guess.

  • @jeffc6832

The Opti-Coat Pro coatings are awesome, and yes they pretty much need to be sanded off. Good news is that slickness is not their strong suit, so the PPF shouldn't have any issues sticking. Dane from TRC had Opti-Coat Pro+ on a Jaguar he used to own, he later did a vinyl wrap on it and they didn't have any problems.

35hrs for just part of the car? Wouldn’t necessarily say 1” is that much more aggressive than 3”. I mean you can get the same amount of cut from 3”

No, on dual action, the smaller the pad, the more aggressive. It’s opposite with a rotary.

@@ObsessedGarage yeah sorry. I mean yes, overall 1” is more aggressive, but it’s not like you wouldn’t be able to accomplish that sort of cut with 3”. That’s what I meant to say. Was surprised you didn’t just go with rupes lhr75 since the 15mm throw would have easily flattened it out for you. Wanted to ask if we will be getting another video showing the actual process and what you did?

I figured that you would know this but maybe not. Like 70% or better of car care companies come from the same manufacturer. Proof is in the juice your were getting similar results from several products. The body shop introduced me to brand I had never heard in my 8 years of detailing. At first what is brand why trying to be a knockoff. After I used the product a couple of times with average results I decided to research the brand at home. Come to find out they source all their ingredients to make their abrasive powders that make all of their compounds and polishes. They are a us based company and their success is due one chemist that designs all of their from soap all the way up to ceramic. Back to their compounds and polishes I found after my research that if used their as recommended I had great results. Most companies the old 3-4 dime size blobs on your pad and not this company the recommend that you be very liberal because that is where the abrasive tech is. The also make a real all in one polish that works on most vehicles with in reason. And they make one of kind foam pads they call spider pads. The pads spread open holding more product delivering a bigger pass and the best cutting foam pad I've ever used. The brand is called 3D which is why I judged them as knockoff brand like as I'm sure many others have. I recommend you check them out I think you'll be suprised.

3D is pretty common. I've used/had several of their products and polishes. It's okay. Some people really like it.

Maybe if you used a dam rotary you wouldn’t spend 35 hours on half the car man. Paint is hard because that’s what happens to Euro clear when freshly painted and sitting for a few months. Some 3000,5000 grit would of been your best friend if you knew what you were doing. There’s sand scratches from the body shop who painted that Porsche because it’s production in and out make money quick is the goal quality is out the door with all new vehicles.
