‘This is an assault on our culture’: Sky News host reacts to ‘ridiculous’ Shakespeare claims

Sky News host Rowan Dean has reacted to a taxpayer-funded study by the UK Arts and Humanities Research Council, which deemed playwright William Shakespeare’s theatre work too “white”.
According to the study, Shakespeare spread “white, able-bodied, heterosexual, cisgender male narratives” in theatre.
“This is an assault on our culture, on our literature, our heritage,” Mr Dean said.
“We’re constantly under assault.
“I mean, how ridiculous.”

Squatting laws came into place in the US during the settler period in the 1800s where different people could get a land claim on the same piece of land from completely different places. The laws were there so that whoever was physically living on the land first wouldn’t be kicked out just because a new person came in with a claim to the exact same piece of land. Nowadays with more centralized records, you can actually see who owns the land so all these old squatting laws should be done away with.

Regarding Shakespeare: he was a product of the era in which he lived. People tend to forget that, in his time, stage roles for female characters were performed by men, and not all of his characters were White (e.g., Othello). Be that as it may, this tempest (not "The Tempest") in a rusted teapot is simply because liberals always evaluate historic works of art by their own contemporary beliefs and standards, instead of trying to understand and appreciate the zeitgeist of the times during which these works were created.

Wasn’t Shakespeare one of the core reason why theatre kids exist? Last I saw in HS, the prototypical cis gendered, able-bodied, white male usually found themselves in shop or on the football team, no? Theatre was very much the outlet for many, many people that did not ascribe to standard societal expectations - and no one had a problem with MacBeth, Romeo and Juliet, or a Midsummers Night. Or did cis white men start joining theatre clubs in droves within the last ten years?

His Sonnets were devoted to the Fair Youth until 130 which is to the ‘dark lady’. There is considerable ambiguity to sexual desire in these works about men, women and love between them. His plays are universal and, unless about specific English history, usually set across European cities where there is a considerable intersection of culture, which often creates the tension. Whomever came up with this concern doesn’t know Shakespeare’s works, or their entire understanding of it stems from a rather terrible film version of R and J featuring Di Caprio, which needs to be forgotten.

There is a rule that electors from a state can’t vote for two candidates (for president and vp) who are both from that same state. So if Trump (who now lives in Florida) and DeSantis won the election with 270-299 electoral votes, the result would be that Trump would receive Florida’s electoral votes but they wouldn’t be able to vote for DeSantis, putting him down to less than the 270 needed to win. In such a case, the Senate would decide who the vice president would be from the top two candidates, DeSantis and Harris. So it would really depend on whether Republicans take control of the Senate in the November elections, and that is far from a sure thing. So what I’m saying is that there would be a significant risk of Trump winning but being stuck with Kamala Harris as VP. Trump will be 82 at the end of the term, so there would then be a risk of him dying and Kamala becoming president! That isn’t a risk I want to take.

Trump with his Bible reminds me of the ancient Romans who cried out to their old pagan gods after the barbarians started sacking their Christian cities. Too little too late. The damage is done.

Captain John Macarthur was probably a squatter. Squatting is how Australia was settled. If it should be illegal - the punishments should be retrospective. Gina might lose her cattle stations.

Captain John Macarthur was a landowner who owned 5000 acres of land. He called it Camden. He hated Squatters.
