The question of longevity with anything mechanical starts with the quality of the build. Whether that is from the factory or work done by a builder. Next is quality fuel/ oil mix. Then running a properly sharpened chain. Followed by maintenance! For several years now I have taken the cylinders off every new saw I have purchased and inspected everything before running the saw, all brands. Unfortunately/fortunately I often find issues with cylinders, pistons, intakes, etc right from the factory. Often times these issues are easily fixed but had I left the them they would have caused problems some in very short order (intake leaks 372 torques for example) but many would last past the warranty period but slowly but surely cause the saw to fail (burr on a piston squirt that was most likely dropped on the floor causing damage the saw was run at the factory, when I tore it down there was transfer on the cylinder and a different wear pattern on the rings from the transfer for example) Sanding out the burr, chamfering the piston and honeing the cylinder fixed it. I have seen the same type of issues in saws that made it past the warranty only to loose power as a result of compression loss. A good builder will catch these issues and fix them before they cost one time and money. A quality port job is icing on the cake, addressing factory deficiencies and increasing power and efficiency. I can attest that a well built work saw will last as long and most cases longer than a factory out of the box saw. Best of all smiling the whole time you run it 😁

My ms880 I ported intake stock was 65°, removed base gasket went to 67, changed to 70°after porting, exhaust is at 103. Pushing 170 psi. Low end torque monster now.

BEST COFFEE MUG EVER! That's my favorite Christmas movie. Did you make a low-tension ring for this saw? If you did, did you lateral gas port the piston and side gap the spark plug? I met some 2 stroke scooter people recently and they gave me some great ideas! Also, figured out that if you have an old scrap top end you can stack up a few rings inside the bore, run a low-grit sandpaper on a slotted mandrel and make several at the same time. Seemed like the perfect thickness (~20% less) was when the rings would not hold in place while sanding.

In my porting experience 76 to 78 degrees seems to be more torq than at 80 or 81 in my experience

Hi there Tinman ,just about to rebuild my sons 372xp x-torq from the ground up . He took out the main bearings , it will go back into the rotation at the tree care company he works for . What would you recommend I put in for cylinder and piston ? Thanks and I hope your family are all well. Cheers 🍻

Well oem is always a good option, you could convert that saw to a non xtorx 372 big bore also.

Hey Tinman, mine is very hard to adjust . If i lean her out on low that it holds idle afer reving it bugs when pulling hard on the trigger out of idle. If i rich her a tweak on idle its zippy but don‘t hold the idle when turning down after a cut. Intake is 160 , but the carb was even stock a mess to adjust. Whats your Thought?

Bad carb or if its ported it may be the intake timing. Thus may have to be a question of the day.

  • @Witschor

@@tinmanssaws you can take it as question of the Day, if you like. Yes the lowers are ported and intake is at 80deg. I will check the Carb. Pressure vac test passed good. Maybe the height ot the metering Lever.

Oração da Noite Senhor, peço que me ajudes a perdoar aqueles que me magoaram ou causaram dor. Capacita-me a liberar o peso do ressentimento e a encontrar a cura em Teu perdão.
