I have been doing port work on 2 strokes for the last 20 plus years. I didnt play around with powersaws untill recently. All my port work was on the old yamaha rd400s and 350s. I will tell you this series is the bible for people getting into porting. On a 2 stroke. Bike or saw or even outboards. Tinman you my friend are the shit. Love the content KEEP IT UP BROTHER.

Great series Tinman. I’ve been contemplating porting my ms460 and since you posted this series I’ve completed the 460 with good results and no mishaps. I’m now into my ms250 but waiting for parts. Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge with the rest of us. And if you would be so kind, please explain to my wife that it’s your fault I’m in the shop so much lately. 😃

This is really important and I’m really glad that you really say this bit at the end about in everything that we do that making a good smooth bevel or easing the port bevels or edge’s is so important. The exhaust port window bevels are huge in there function of helping to push that very hot and soft ring back into the ring groove… most people don’t realize that their piston ring is actually protruding into the exhaust port window for a little bit while the piston is in that position there’s nothing supporting the ring… why Stihl for all those 0-series cylinder’s had the bird beaks on their exhaust. And the Mac’s actually ran the bar’s across the exhaust port to keep their rings supported…

Thanks! That was a great easy to see what is going on video. Appreciate the effort going into making these! Ported a moped about 30 years ago - wouldn't even run when I was done, didn't know what I was doing. Ported a saw last week - amazing, can't believe how great it runs. I have that exact echo, and it hardly gets used, because it is a little heavy, and kinda slow, even with muffler mod. My Jonsered 2260 smokes it, and feels like a 50 cc saw, so why bother with the brick saws! I'm going to port the echo 67cc, mild, similar to what you just did. And, I'll let you know how it runs. Really, it is only 1 or 2 lbs heavier than the Jonsered, and should be able to pull a longer bar/chain (running 24" on it right now, and 20 on Jonesred). Maybe with a 24" Oregon versa cut - a little lighter - it won't be a bad bucking saw. Plus, a fun project! And, will keep the saw from sitting on the shelf. Thanks again!

Hey tinman i have an awesome idea for people when chamfering cylinders! Cover both sides of the edge with sharpie (so whole corner is blacked out) then when you grind, the chamfered part will obviously be bright and shiny, may make it easier to see how consistent your chamfers are too! Im gonna try this and see if it works as good as it sounds :) take er easy big dog!

Thanks for your inspirations I was a bronze level Stihl Power Equipment mechanic for 15 years went Trucking for 12 purchase many carcasses private and eBay with only aftermarket parts available for some of these forty and fifty year old machines porting cylinders is the only way for successful repair that many years of chamfer ports I figured what the hell was very happy with my little o28 with a aftermarket jug performance the wash across the top of the piston after raising transfer was pretty spot-on awesome little saw lot more work than going picking a new cylinder off the Shelf keep teaching you're good at in all my years never looked at a degree wheel explains why this year they got power that year they didn't LOL

Timing you got me hooked. Mechanics my trade, and have done a little hot rodding. OK For starters HF flex cable, already done muffler on my MS170. Next question compression, and possible base gasket delete 🤔. Dang thing doesn't have a base gasket. Workjn on Plan B. Thanks

It's because of this series and some of your other videos, that I have successfully ported 2 saws. First was an echo 590 just did a mild job. The next is a 372xp, that I went a little crazy on. This saw rips a 28" like crazy. May try some different pin sprockets to see how she pulls once broken in.

Good stuff. Getting exciting now, all you have to do is try not to play too much with your new Macs. You are going to be known as Tinman with all the toys. Cheers from Tassie.

cut a slot in a nail Or into a wooden dowel and then put your sandpaper in it or you could put super glue and wrap it around that works really good for polishing the inside of a port ;-)

Oh that's awesome. I was tryin to figure out what burr to use for my chamfers. I broke all my edges in my piston like Harv does & blended it all in. Dude I was going to ask what you thought about porting a mildly used jug & piston. This is my first attempt porting, so I do plan on getting a new top end. I just thought trying this with used stuff would be ok for a try. Thanks so much my friend. I'm learning a lot. Chad from Michigan 👍

When buying aftermarket cylinders, is it a good idea to chamfer the ports?

Is it possible to over do the chamfer and end up snapping a ring? Dead center of exhaust port..not once but 4 times..

Tinman, Loved the video. You used 400 grit to put the finishing touches on the chamfer, Do you ever advance to 800 or 100 grit after the 400?

Can you talk about chamfering cylinders that chip really easily? I’m having a hard time with a highway cylinder that just seems to flake away.
