In the Disney Channel Latinamerican ver one time uploaded a compilation of Lumity scenes, the problem was the name, for unknow reason they named "Luzity" instead of Lumity and it sounds funny as hell. Its like Luz in spanish is Light so it sounds like the name of a city with a lot of lights lol

There was a ship in a game ‘Danganronpa’ that made me laugh, not in the way you would think though. The two shipped characters were Hajime Hinata and Nagito Komaeda. Their ship name was Komahina, which isn’t really that strange, until you realize that there are two characters who also fit this ship name, Aoi Asahina and Komaru Naegi. Which is stupidly funny that people found that out.

to be fair tho "GhostFlower" would ONLY work specifically for the versions of Miles and Gwen from the Spider-Verse movies, it wouldn't work at all for literally any other incarnation of the characters. the "Ghost" part works regardless because Gwen changed her name from Spider-Woman to Ghost Spider, but the "Flower" part for Miles refers specifically to the song Sunflower from Into the Spider-Verse which is totally irrelevant and not canon/applicable to any other incarnation of Miles. Like if you were to ship Miles and Gwen specifically from the comics for example, "GhostFlower" wouldn't make any sense and would be confusing since Miles isn't associated with flowers or the song Sunflower in that context. i can totally see the name working within the Spider-Verse movie fandom specifically, but it still seems off since the Miles and Gwen ship predates the movies and originates from the comics which is literally the only reason it was even included in the movies to begin with. i agree that they need a better ship name, but i just don't think that "GhostFlower" is a good fit.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned the South Park fandom. First off, a _lot_ of our ship names make words. For example, like... "Style" (Stan & Kyle), "Creek" (Craig & Tweek), "Bunny" (Butters & Kenny), "Candy" (Cartman & Wendy) or even "Bendy" for Bebe & Wendy. I don't like Steven and Connie's ship name being "Connverse." I get that it can't be "Stevonnie" because that's their fusion's name and if you look up "Stevonnie" you'll just get the character instead of them as an unfused couple, but looking up "Connverse" without specifying Steven Universe will show trainers. It also sounds more like the name for an AU where Connie's the one who's half gem (I know that's called Connie Swap but still). In general I don't really like ship names where it's a mixture of A's first name and B's last name, I'd rather it be a combination of just first names or just last names.

Okay then, an idea for the writers that can potentially get a large fandom in the future: make it so that if your story has romance, the names of the two characters would result in something that just can't be treated seriously when combined either way.

The one ship name I will never personally get over is starch from Honkai Star Rail. The characters shipped are Stelle and March 7th, respectively. It's just so funny for no reason (I mean, stellemarch was literally right there). Though it describes the characters perfectly, it really sounds like something they will both come up with, too

@@aeris143 Yeah the explanation is that she was hacked out of a massive floating ice block and because she lost all her memories and didn’t know her actual name, she just named herself after the day she was found, March 7th.

I knew someone who shipped Naruto and Sasuke, and the ship's name was Nasa. That prompted me to write a fanfiction about the two of them going to space. Still iconic.

Good Omens has some really good ones. Gabriel/Beelzebub is "Ineffable Bureaucracy". Lucifer/Aziraphale (yes, that exists) is "Devil Wears Tartan", because Aziraphale wears a tartan tie. Dagon/Beelzebub is "Fileflies", a pun on their respective titles. It also happens to sound like "Fireflies", which was sung by a guy who just happens to be named Adam Young (but that's most likely a coincidence).

@@reasyrandom Gabriel/Beelzebub has the best name in Russian. Бляхамухи. Which is combining the word blya/blyakha (kinda a shortened version of blyad, and blyakha is like a blob or something) with the word "mukhi", which means "flies". It's a common expletive and a slight euphemism for blyat on its own, but it turned into a funny ship name.I wouldn't be able to actually give it justice in English, it's untranslatable...or should I say, it's ineffably good? Haha Side note: when you see "kh" it is a sound that's like an H, but made in the back of the mouth, it doesn't actually have a K in it. I've just ingrained that transcription into me.

A lot of people pointed out Omori's beautiful process of creating shipping names, so lemme just mention that Owl House tried to recreate that for platonic ship names (ex. 'golden rose' for Hunter and Amity) and failed miserably because then shippers started to use them, making them pointless. There're still some fun shipnames like 'cardinal sin' for Caleb and Evelyn. In Over the Garden Wall Wirt and Beatrice are called 'endless eyerolls', if we'll include crossovers, Wirt and Dipper Pines are 'pinecone'

The actual platonic name for Hunter & Amity I've seen used is "Besties in Trauma". Generally, platonic names often have the words "Friends/Besties" or "Duo/Trio/Quatret etc.". Do I hate that DreamSMP of all things popularized that? Yes. Is it still useful? Also yes.

Omori ship names are kind of all over the place and I absolutely love it. Some of them are honestly really good. Sunny x Basil gets called sunflower, which is the literal perfect for a number of reasons, not least because of the multiple layers of symbolism that ties into their relationship. Meanwhile, Aubrey x Kim gets called cotton candy, because aubrey has pink hair and kim really likes candy. And that's not even the most ridiculous ship named like that. Don't even get me started on poly ships which often don't even have coherent names. My favourite name though has to be for Hero x Mari, which oddly enough usually doesn't get given a name. When it does though, people call it "Mario," which I'm severely disappointed hasn't become the standard.

Yes, but if you read the comment, it was saying that before "proshipping" became a popular term for supporting the right to ship and write whatever you want, it was the name of an actual ship in the Yu-Gi-Oh fandom.

When I was a kid, I was a fan of the Disney Junior show "Jake and The Neverland Pirates", and one of the main ships featured Jake and Izzy. The ship name was actually called "Jizzy". I die inside everytime I look back.

Personally, I prefer ship names that are a combination of things associated with the characters, because the chance of it turning out stupid is lower than just mashing their names together. This is why OMORI with it's ship names. Until you realise that the canon ship between Hero and Mari does not have an actual unique name, unlike EVERY OTHER ONE. But people now call it mario.

I remember when my class were analysing a chapter from Hunger Games for our English class, and my classmate said she liked Hunger Games and shipped these two. The look of absolute disgust on her face when I pointed out their shipname got a laugh out of me. Another ship I like with cursed shipnames is Damon Maistu and Wolfgang Akire from P:EG. Wolfmon makes them sound like a bootleg Digimon, Akiretsu sounds like a generic BL shipname, and Dagang’s just… bad. It’s insanely hilarious though (Akiretsu’s the most common one used tho)

Unless they use a workaround method. By using Idiosyncratic Ship Naming. Like Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon for example where it's "Random word" with shipping on the end. Like how Yugi x Kaiba is called "Prideshipping."

Link and Sidon from BOTW/TOTK is typically called SidLink, but an alternative is... Sink. Which is exactly what Nintendo tried to do to the ship in TOTK but accidentally made it worse (or better if you're like me and like the ship) and/or made a polycule rather than just getting rid of it... Also this did just make me realize idk any of the ship names for one of the fandoms I'm in so guess I'm gonna go try to find that out lmao

I am also a fan of this, and I like to come up with ship names for both my and my friends’ OCs and then OC x Canon ships. For two OCs, a friend of mine and I have Moonflower, because my OC is named Camellia and hers is always awake at night. Then for OC x Canon, I have No Strings Attached, which is again Camellia and a guy who has string based powers that is, ‘canonically,’ her FWB I also have BubbleBees, between a canon character who likes bubblegum and an OC who can very minorly communicate with honeybees. Those two also are very useless lesbians who legit call each other PB and Marcie and don’t think it’s flirting for a while- As for just my OCs together, the only pretty one I have right now is NightLace, between characters whose names are Nightlight and Lacy. I also have Counting Sheep, which is Nightlight and another OC with lots of shepardess and sheep motifs in her design. Now that I start to think about it, there are a lot available with this group of characters. Like, sheep girl is trans, and another character named Damien is also trans, so a ship between them just has to be called Gender Swap. I’m gonna keep doing this omg-

We've got DigitalTime (a clock and a computer ship), Fluffybird (my personal favourite- its a character named Red Guy that looks kinda fluffy, and a duck named Duck), SleepyTime (a lamp & the same clock previously mentioned), Spinny (same lamp as before & a spinach can), Pony (Tony x Paige- which is the clock's name, and the name of a sketchpad) and many more.

There’s a character from The Magnus Archives podcast who (spoilers), due to plot stuff, gets his consciousness merged with an eldrich door creature. Because his arc is similar to another character named Gerard Keay/Gerry Delano (and they have opposite aesthetics) people have decided to ship them. There’s an inoffensive name for them which is just Gerrymichael but… some people have decided to call them “Doorkeay” 💀

Some of the funniest ship names I’ve heard are from Rainworld. One of the ships (between a character called spearmaster and a character called artificer) is called Boomstick. Some more that I think are funny are Toothpaste, Tapwater, Error 404, Bathbomb, Ragequit, and Fishsticks, but there are definitely more that I’m forgetting about

This somehow taught me a lot about ship names Before I thought they were just different combinations of characters names (full, first, or last) but now I know that ships will be named using math, their initials, words connected with each character, and even include shipping in it

No joke, when I was really into Splatoon for a while I was confused as to why Agent 3 and Agent 8's ship name was Agent 24. I forgot about basic multiplication. I also had no idea that ship names could be math related, but I don't see that type of ship name for any of the other agents so maybe the silly squid fans are just weird.

As a BenneFischl shipper, I like both weird names of ship. Fischl is similar to German word means "fish", Fischl wears fishnet too. Whoever came for Plance is on my bad list, because it was genuinely such a ingenious little name for a ship between earth and water coded characters. We had “watering the plance” (creating content), “spending time in the garden” (interacting with the shipping community), and “cultivating seedlings” (welcoming new fans into the community / getting people to ship it). It was truly the most versatile portmanteau of them all. We don’t talk about Shatt though.

I've been to the deep end of the fandom and back. Never tried to 'get' people to ship something myself. But people got mad when my work contributed to the high saturation of Klance. I once came across a group of homophobes who literally posted, "Instead of Klance, try..." and then had a dice rolling mechanism to pair up any named woman and any named man in the series, and it had no concern for age so it would give results like "Nadia (Lance's little niece) slash Kolivan." It was the only time somebody tried to tell me what to ship and it was a combination of trying to be edgy and different than the masses, and was also a heteronormative hot mess in defiance of a popular gay relationship. So the fact that you fully admit you guys even had a code name for trying to 'sow your Plance' I should say, gives a whole lot of ick that I hope you'll not take too personally. It was a senstivite time for gay representation and the creators and actors blatantly lied at times to queerbait. So as nice and cozy as you think it was, you were part of the hot mess and making a lot of people feel attacked through your actions, by trying to convert people away from a comfort ship in a time when gay rights seemed in a vulnerable state.

the omori fandom's ship names are actually super clever and quite poetic. for example. the characters sunny and basil being shipped is referred to as "sunflower" because basil is a botanist and sunny is... sunny. or cotton candy, the ship between the characters aubrey and kim-- they steal from candy stores together and aubrey's hair is dyed bright pink, like cotton candy. suntan is the ship name for sunny and kelsey-- kel is just tan. so. it works. sunburn is the name for sunny and aubrey-- aubrey is super, i dunno, firey and aggressive. so "sunburn" is what came of it. it's just so satisfying how it makes so much _sense!_ and then we have picnic sandwich for hero and mari because mari and hero go on picnic dates and hero is an amazing cook, hence "sandwich" 😭😭 it's all so beautiful (p.s. an alternative name for hero and mari is "mario". i felt that it should be mentioned because it's funny as hell.)

The HeroMari name I use is Rosemari because 1: Hero is associated with roses and Mari is, well, Mari 2: Together it sounds like Rosemary 3: I kept the I at the end cuz it matches the naming scheme of Something variants

@@FromtheTriangle Some other reasons to use Rosemari include the fact that rosemary is taken by another fandom (idk which) so there’s an i at the end, also rosemary fits the aesthetic of plants, and hell, even Basil is the name of a freaking plant

splatoon fans when shipping the playable agents of the single player campains end up just multiplying the two agents number desegnations together. agent 3 from the first game and agent 8 from octo expsnsion together is "agent 24"

In the Touhou fandom, shipping together Marisa and Alice (a very popular ship) is often called Malice. The Japanese fandom though uses Mariali, and some people just use that one instead.

I'm suprised I havent seen anyone mention the Danny Phantom ship name (though frankly a lot of DP names are cool and/or funny) "Rich history" which is Vlad (a billionaire) and Clockwork (the ghost whos basically in charge of time) or the BNHA ship called "Hotwings" which is the hero Hawks (he has wings) and the villain Dabi (who wields fire)

the RWBY fandom had literal spreadsheets for ships, all of them having great to questionable naming. Notable ones include: Nuts'N'Dolts (Ruby and Penny) and WhiteRose( Ruby and Weiss), one of my faves was always SeaMonkeys (Sun and Neptune)

the name “skincancer” for the OMORI ship sunburn (sunny and aubrey) will never not be funny to me

Wordgirl fandom has such a way of naming ships it just amuses me For example, Lady Redundant Woman ( half-printer villain with self-duplication powers) x Dr.2Brains (Cheese and mice themes villain) is called "Provoclone" and when it hit me I coudnt think of anything else for a while. We also have "grilled cheese" for the cheese guy and the sandwich guy, or invisible ink for Lady redundant woman and an invisible guy (tho I ship him with another guy, cant deny me that ship name id gold)

I physically laugh-screamed “WHAT” at the last one. It caught me so off-guard and I suspect everyone in the house heard me. Which is not easy, given that my parents are hard of hearing and I’m in a bedroom halfway underground.

Honestly I grew up on mostly Pokemon and Yu gi oh, I cannot tell you the relief I felt when I got into Fairy Tail and the ship names actually started making sense and you could figure them out without looking it up, like what the hell were they thinking, aint nobody gets Ash and Lana out of BlueAngelShipping☠️

In the Half-Life VR but the AI is Self-Aware sphere, the ship name between the characters Dr. Coomer and Bubby is called "Boomer." Which is quite fitting seeing as they are both old men.

Zhongli and Guizhong from Genshin Impact. Their ship name is Guili, they even named a region they held dominion over after their combined names, but zhongzhong is, in my opinion, the best option. It's perfect. ✨️

5:25 soooo.... i once tried to explain this ship to my dad... my brain wasn't forming the right words. instead of 'spirk' or whatever it's called, i just kept saying 'kock' in increasingly louder and more frantic tones. i even tried to explain the characters but i just called them 'kock and spirk'. it took me a full two minutes before i was able to actually say their names correctly. i am afraid to say their ship name out loud to this day...

i accidentally said "sculder" (i blended up mulder and scully) while i was chatting with my sis about a concept of an x files game.

It was entirely a joke but once Xenoblade 3's Future Redeemed DLC dropped and people started shipping Shulk and Rex, two of the most popular ship names for them were Shrex and Sex

The object show community has tons of terrible ship names due to the nature of its shows, but my least favourite by far has to be Barfnut. That’s the ship between Donut and Barf bag. In fact, pretty much every donut ship name is at least a little bit terrible, because most end with “nut”. Same goes for the character Black hole, who’s ship names tend to use the “hole” part of his name most often. Oh, and Liam x Bryce from HFJone, which is Lice.

I remember seeing a ship name for these two characters named Bugbo and Gerbo. The ship name was literally just… one of their names? I get that their names are similar but really? They couldn’t have thought of anything better? 💀 (I know BugGer doesn’t sound better but I’d prefer that) 😭

​@@freshcupofangst idk a lot about ninjago but I think the pokémon fandom (and I assume yugioh too) does that because the characters tend to have different names in the Japanese vs. English versions of the games/show so by making the ship names word+shipping it removes the language barrier if people know the characters by a different name, or at least that's what I read somewhere

@@riccardoklaine6941 Yeah, those would be good names, but Snupin came from a set of Snape ships that were all Sn- prefixed, like Snarry, Snack, Snucius. You get the idea.

The splatoon fandom also has some confusing ship names. Agents 3 and 8 are often shipped with the name 24, which makes sense, but I always think that means agent 2 and agent 4 😅

@@zacharywooden2113 aside from agent 1 x agent 2 (which has a couple separate names that are used interchangeably based on preference), yeah pretty much. Agent 8 just refers to agent 8, I don’t know that the ships you mentioned are popular enough to have a name. I’ve never heard of one at least

Agent 1 and Agent 2 have actual names, (Callie and Marie) so there is no need, lol. They're also way older than the other agents so nobody ships them anyway

At one point while writing my story two of the characters were named Dawn and Nick... I've since changed their names to Piccolo and Dante respectively, and I'm just realizing that isn't much better lol

In Omori, there’s a ship named Capri Sun, which is a ship between Kel and Sunny. It can also be called SunTan.

Glimmer x Bow from She-Ra. They had the opportunity to name it Glow, BUT THEY CHOSE GLIMBOW INSTEAD AND IT SOUNDS SO FUNNY
