I feel like once you hit 25 or over, you can date whoever the fuck you want as long as in that point they’re older than you. If you hit 18, you can date who you want as long as the person isn’t too old as that could just be grooming. E.g. 18 and 65. Remember that you still are immature and dumb just turned into an adult (I’m not specifically talking to you just making my point). So in short, they’re stupid and 27 and 22 is fine. SleepCinema’s ship is an Ace Attorney ship with Phoenix Wright and not Edgeworth. Probably Maya or Mia, but not Iris because the evidence claim wouldn’t make sense. And as a Wrightworth shipper, they’re not homophobic for not shipping it, i just get annoyed when people say it doesn’t make sense, or that we’re just “making it gay when it’s not”. THE ACTUAL GAME CREATORS SHIP IT. Plus a lot of implications, which are all compiled in an ao3 essay by sophie_inthesky. I don’t want people to ship it, i just want my ship to be respected.

This is the only reason I am scared to suggest one of my favorite fanfic to people since the characters have an age gap. Because you know how every relationship in real life is with two people perfectly the same age, no conflict. They adopt a kid who somehow looks like both of them because why not, and then live to the perfect age of 100 and die holding hands at the same time. One is cinamon roll and other have leather jackets and crap sarcasm as defense mechanism.

(Warning: spoilers for The Owl House) Yes, the entirety of the Hexside squad stays with Luz while trapped in the human realm, but by that logic Amity and Luz would be adoptive siblings too. And in the finale when other characters reunite with their parents, Hunter is instead depicted reuniting with Darius. He also has a closer bond with Darius than with Camila, and in the timeskip epilogue, he's not shown inside Luz's house and is instead shown later on in the Demon Realm, while Camila, Luz's mother, and Vee, Luz's adoptive sister, are shown in the house. While Luz does tell Hunter that he's 'family now,' she could have easily meant it in a way that he's one of her close friends, thus a member of her chosen family. TL;DR: While Hunter and Luz COULD be adopted siblings, this is only fanon and there's more evidence suggesting that Hunter was adopted by Darius.

I've seen so many ships get accused of being incest or "like incest", and only once were A and B actually related... And even then they weren't as "sibling-like" as the protesters acted since 1. they didn't find out they were siblings until one of them was dead, and 2. A was an manipulative asshole to B. Related to the above, in several cases the characters being related would actually make their canon interactions MORE problematic than if they were a couple. Not that there's anything wrong with that, I just find it amusing when people don't consider the full implications of their arguments.

I too have ran into fans not liking a ship because they want the character for themselves. It wasn't just one fan it was several.

I was in a high school relationship with another girl who was a couple of months younger than me. She was toxic and controlling and tried to tell me how to dress and would accuse me of cheating on her if I didn't talk to her on the phone for hours a day on the weekends. But hey, I guess I'm a pedo and the abuser even though we were both minors because I was going to turn 17 sooner. /s There's a whole bunch of other reasons why accusing every relationship with an age gap of being pedophilia is wrong, but you have a good point about the age difference not being the only possible power differential in a relationship. In an abusive relationship, the younger one could be the abuser. It isn't always "oh there's an age difference, so the older one is abusive". This is really a grade school way of looking at things too. In school, most of your friends will be people in the same grade or a grade up/below, because that's who you interact with. In real life, you'll have coworkers and friends with broader age groups.

For me, it was someone INSISTING that the two characters were brothers when they literally weren't. They've never thought of eachother as brothers, nor been referred to as brothers, but instead as best friends and family (one of the characters calls literally every single one of his friends for his family, it's straight up a trait of his). They have the same last name, but only because they took the name of the orphanage they were both in together. Also the ship is semi-canon. One of the characters has told the other that he loves him. While there has been A LOT of hints that the other guy returns the feelings.

I was part of a very obscure ship from an rpg. People were always bombarding us with the "THEY CONSIDER EACH OTHER SIBLINGS, STOP BEING DISGUSTING." And would get mad when we wouldn't ship one of them with another one of the characters. I was one of the first people to post fics for this couple. After a while, one of them died an horrible death, the other got aged like 30 years in 40 seconds, and the player wrote a letter that called the other one "man of my life" and the other player said that it could've happened had they both made it out alive, pretty much validating it. It's one of the most accepted ships in the fandom by now I think.

Ah yes. "Seraph of the End," the series I infamously both enjoy and feel kinda queer baited by, and thus everyone on my friend's D&D server gets to hear all about it in the most convoluted way possible because I want to vent my frustration but don't want to give spoilers...

I swear some people think any conflict ever happen in fanfiction = Toxic Relationship no matter how minor it is. Once I saw a group of kids on tumblr cyberbully someone because their fic are toxic(it just class different. And family drama). And I click on their ao3 profile to see what kind of fic they would approve and saw their works and bookmarks are just a bunch of fluff slice-of-life kind of story that everyone loves everyone and everything happy and smiles and laughs and it just all their friends who given kudos and commenting. I never give a fuck when someone said the word 'toxic' ever since. It will never be enough for these people.

They are so against toxicity that they loop around to being toxic. They cyberbullied another real human being for writing fictional tropes they didn't like. Even if the fic had been full on messed up relationship, dead dove do not eat, it would never be ok to harass someone for it. I like a wide-range of genres, including fluff. I also like dark-fluff (I promise it's a thing) and sometimes fic where the character(s) are legit toxic.

A plot without conflict isn't a plot, and you need to approach stories based on their own established logical consisticy rather than the logic and ethics of our own real world. Most good crime dramas, for instance wouldn't work by that logic because we wouldn't root for, say, the mafia in real life I feel like the reason a lot of TV dramas feel lackluster is because the conflict isn't interesting or entertaining. I think the reason I (and a lot of people) found Yellowstone so dreadfully boring is because it's hard to care about conflict between and two unlikable characters like Beth and Jamie because I don't really care which one comes out on top

The "they're not from the same universe/franchise" or "they barely/never interacted" is one that definitely gets me. Yeah, that's why fanfiction exists. Seriously, no one has to like a ship, but trying to convince others that they're "wrong" for liking one is such a weird mindset to get into (esp when the real reason is that they're being homophobic or they don't like the ship and just hate that others do).

I don't know if I have any (off the top of my head), I just know that I am seeing far more gay shipping material from the cannon that straight shipping material. I've been told it's weird to ship children when I was said a throwaway comment about Byler.. Let me clarify a few things: I myself was around fourteen at the time, which was similar to the age they were, and shipping two or more characters isn't inherently sexual so there's nothing wrong with it. It's not like I was fantasizing two thirteen year olds having sex, I just thought the two could be cute as a middle school couple, if you know what I mean. Literally none of my ships are sexual, I'm a sexually repulsed asexual and to me people are sort of like barbie dolls, they have no genitals, but apparently because I used the word ship it's "weird because they're children" Bestie, what? Anyway yeah, just wanted to rant a bit 🙃

Alright, so, for context, Big City Greens. If more context is needed, there was like this one Valentine's episode and the protag (he's 10 years old, FYI) Cricket fell in love with some chick Gabriella or whatever SO ANYWAY. On some Googoe search thing, I think I found one article conplaining about that. Probably some LGBTQ person who was frustrated by "heteronormative/allocentric" stuff. Anyway, I remember little (might go back to it lol;;) but one thing I noticed is that the writer, at least once, used the word "libido" to refer to his attraction. Libido. That means LUST. If you forgot, he is FCKING TEN YEARS OLD. If THAT isn't weird and creepy and kinda gross, I don't know WHAT is.

One I remember was "they're by the same creator so they're basically siblings!" The characters weren't even from the same series, it was Balan and Nights. Wanna know the ironic part? The same person who said that shipped lance and balan, who are from the same series and canonically related to eachother [ lance created balan and they're commonly refered to as brothers both by the fandom and some official sources ]

Though the coronation being done to someone who is underage doesn't seem very farfetched for the pokémon world to me, where 11 year olds beat crime organizations and become champions of their whole region. I think it makes sense that people would think it's weird to ship a 16 year old with an 18 year old, though. The 2/3 year age gap of the original comment might be referring to 2/3 years for characters who are over 18 anyway, which doesn't make sense but a lot of people don't like in real or fictional couples

Exactly! There are a lot of ships I find really gross, so when I see people shipping them, I just block them or filter the ship tag and move on. I know I won’t be able to convert their shipping preferences, and starting a fight would just upset both of us. Plus, just because someone has different ideas than me about which fictional characters should kiss doesn’t make them a bad person.

I have seen people HARRASS and send DEATH THREATS over ships because "They don't know each other" 1. Both are adults 2. Just because they haven't interacted doesn't mean its a invalid ship

Eh it's personal preference but I don't like reading romance between teens lol. It's the reason I don't read YA much anymore. I'd rather read about characters my own age or older.

Ikr, teens can have a romantic releationship, not sexual, but romantic for sure.

“They’re best friends, nothing more” One, it’s a ship. It doesn’t have to be canon or have evidence. Two, on the evidence side of this ship, they were definitely something more.

I don't think it's wrong to ship problematic pairings, because it is fiction, and it doesn't need to be "healthy". Also, messed up relationships happen in real life too. Still, it is funny that the focus here is on the slight age difference, and not Light being a mass murderer. I ship a fictional bioterrorist with one of the protagonists, but I'm sure that the bad thing is that no one in this franchise is the same age, therefore there is probably an age difference. Never mind that nearly all the characters in this franchise are adults. There's like 1 child character who latter appears when she's an adult.

I've been told I can't ship characters because they "don't ever meet". Fanfictions literally exist for a reason. And half the time it's between my ocs and canon characters in fanfictions. People are so weird

“You can’t ship Character A with character B because character B cLeARlY is in love with character C.” I like shipping the characters because to me I think it’s pretty cute. 💖 And if you don’t like it then fine by me. Edit: wow 😯 I didn’t expect this to get that many like’s.

My best (worst?) one was “You can’t ship X with Z, XY is canon!” Which is bad in and of itself, but… This was a Cookie Run ship. The devs haven’t made any romance canon. And it wasn’t even about SeaMoon or MintCocoa which are semi-canon (The ship in question being Eclair x Maddie when Espressoleine is *so clearly canon*)

I keep getting called an abuse apologist because I ship an enemies to lover ship 💀 I'm literally a domestic abuse survivor, and so are most of the fans of that ship Honestly I hate how the word "abusive" gets thrown around. Ppl often use it to replace the word "toxic" but it's not the same. Abuse is about power inbalance and having someone literally make your life a living hell because of the control they have over you. Meanwhile enemies to lovers ships the two characters are almost always presented as equals and are seen as equally powerful. So yeah they are toxic (DUH it's ENEMIES to lovers), but it's not abusive. + in fiction a little toxicity is fun to watch, especially if it comes from trauma and gets resolved later. It's like ppl want deep and morally gray character but the second it's darker than two rivals playing against each other in a chess competition it become the antichrist of ships

ikr, rivals mean they go against the other in games, an idea or a situation, but doesn't mean they mistreat each other. For example, my bestie and i have somewhat rivalry sometimes, but we are hella healthy friendship. Abuse would be if one of the two bullied the other and didnt get a redemption or anything like that. In pokemon, ash's companions are rivals of him, and he has a great relationship with them. Example, serena. wdym xDDD

Yeah! And enemies to lovers isn't inherently toxic, either. If they're just on two sides of a larger conflict, then you can have two people who are enemies but also respect each other and eventually come to an agreement 🤷 And even if the animosity starts out as more personal, as long as they resolve the conflict before they start being lovers, I wouldn't consider that toxic at all. I also like ones that _are_ a little toxic (like ones where there's not total honesty between them or where they start getting romantically or sexually entangled while still being enemies) but thinking that all enemies to lovers MUST be toxic or abusive overlooks the variety within the trope

Anti-shippers have no shame. I'm a CSA survivor and I've been called a pedophile for shipping a basically canon pair who happen to have a minor/young-adult age difference. Even better is that the series features a much older, grooming character that the young-adult saves the minor from, and these people still see their relationship as wrong. I really worry about these (I'm assuming) kids who can't distinguish fiction from reality. Or, rather, they don't understand that "problematic" themes can be used positively. -_-

people learn these terms without knowing their nuances and perspectives. not everything is black and white. if they keep telling this and that's toxic/abusive, they will lost their meaning. people are getting way way way too deep in this and not in a good way.

I got the “you can’t ship two characters because you’re an adult” as well. Somone called me a pedophile. I was 18, I had it in my bio. The characters were 16 and 17

People also like the bring up the family card, they're not related in any way, one of the characters just likes acting as a responsible 'dad' figure to those younger than him, neither character sees each other as literal family (especially the younger one, he hates when he acts as a dad to him), so that reason is pretty stupid, especially in a game where like so many characters use family roles as metaphors for being close friends Also note: I don't ship this, I just think the hate is absurd

One of my big ships back in 2019 was “toxic” because: • The guy got sa’d and therefore cannot date the girl (the kicker is..he didn’t!!) They were referencing a non canon light novel that I read and guess what, that never happened!! It was a fandom wide headcanon that people never checked as fact. Which was so annoying because I was told I shipped abuse. Which by the way..what?! The girl never did it!! How is that abuse?! • The girl is annoying to him and therefore he doesn’t like her back and it’s abuse. They’ll never be canon is what you’re saying, and yeah agreed but idc. They respect each other and grow as people later on in the series and become friends, it’s plausible at the least. • It’s not gay, you’re homophobic cause the gay ships with both of them are better. People said this to me, the biggest lesbian I know. It baffled me and I laughed aloud every time I’ve ditched Wattpad fanfic writing since then and have had less issues with ships lol
