The World's Lightest HD FPV Whoop is AMAZING! (HDZero/SharkByte 1S)

The day has finally arrived when it is possible to build a 65mm 1S whoop racer with high definition FPV! I have a prototype of a 1S VTX that HDZero is developing. The final version will be even lighter! Check it out! Click "SHOW MORE" for links and related videos.

    You'll notice that I don't call it "Shark Byte" any more. That's because Fat Shark (the company) is no longer involved. Divimath is the company who developed the technology from the beginning and they are carrying it forward under the HDZero brand (www.hd-zero.com/). Also, people keep asking me where they can get the receiver module. It looks like Amazon USA has them in stock with Prime shipping right now (amzn.to/32hj72G). Later this year, HDZero plans to release their own goggles which will have HDZero built-in. They are expected to have even lower latency. I'm excited for that!

    You can always use Pololu 5V step-up boosters, this will make either DJI, receiver or HDZero survive the low voltage issues. You can always move your AIO on that but your voltage readings will be wrong. I have used this extensively this on a 1S toothpick with DJI, trust is not greate due to DJI weight but 2x Pololu in parallel worked well for me. The DJI OSD used the MSP voltage reading so i had proper visibility on actual 1S cell voltage.

    Did you watch to the end of the video? I totally did that! The receiver outputs and HDMI signal so you want hook it up to just about any display. Now, depending on your TV, it might add extra latency. Some TVs have a "game" mode for lower latency. My projector adds 20ms, which is noticeable to me, but still flyable.

    Great great build ! I want to make the same build except for the ELRS. Can you please recommend a FrSky counterpart FC that would be best for this build ?

    BetaFPV used to make FrSky 1S FCs so you might be able to find one if you shop around. Happymodel also makes one, and I think HGLRC has one too. So there are options. I don't currently have one that I would recommend over any of the others.

    Yep, sorry DJI I was on the fence between you and fatshark but let’s be honest, what do you really think about FPV. The quadcopter you made I think let’s us know. $$$ Time to get the HDZERO

    AWESOME!!!! I'd love to see 8 of these flying in a metal building! clear video for multiple pilots in a tough RF environment would be the selling point for me. The camera seems to be lacking sharpness. Maybe that's because i'm comparing the image quality to the OSD text. The OSD text is razor sharp, image- not so much. Does anyone know why this is?

  • @MrShutterBug

    @MrShutterBug

    2 жыл бұрын

    The OSD is sharper because it is rendered by the goggles and not encoded with the rest of the video. I could make the video look a bit sharper by turning up the sharpness setting, but that looks less natural to me. Keep in mind that this is the old Runcam Nano HD camera. The newer one with HDZero branding is better. See: kzread.info/dash/bejne/h2hszMymdtetYaQ.html

    Hi. The canopy was 3D printed. There is a link to the STL file in the video description text. If you don't have a 3D printer, then you get send the file to any company that does 3D prints. The material is TPU. Cheers!

    If you use these components with 40mm 2-blade props, then you should get even better performance and flight time. That is something I often do, but for this build I wanted to see how good a 65mm whoop could be with 31mm props.

    When you soldered the motors to the HD Zero whoop board did it matter which way way the wires were soldered. Are the wires in order.

  • @MrShutterBug

    @MrShutterBug

    2 жыл бұрын

    Check the wiring diagram before you solder. The Tx pad on the VTX goes to an Rx pad on the FC, and the Rx pad on the VTX goes to a Tx pad on the FC. That is the connection used for the "canvas mode" OSD.

    This really has me convinced that I will get hdzero in the near future. Do you know if there is a new receiver module in the works?

  • @MrShutterBug

    @MrShutterBug

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yes, I have heard that there is a new receiver module in the works. It has some minor updates with respect to the original. I think they said it would start being available sometime in February, but I'm not certain. They are also working on some new goggles which will have even lower latency because they will bypass HDMI and sync directly with the displays. The goggles wont be available until sometime in the summer, I think. You can get more info on the HDZero Discord or Facebook groups.

    Awesome stuff, Nathan! Have you tested your lap times against analog? Also, you do still fly angle mode for whoop racing, right? Thanks mate :-)

  • @MrShutterBug

    @MrShutterBug

    2 жыл бұрын

    I expect my fastest lap times with analog are still going to be faster because of the weight difference but the gap keeps getting smaller. I sometimes crash or slow down because of bad analog video, so it might help in those situations. Yes, this was all angle mode footage but I do fly acro in the house sometime for doing tricks. Cheers!

    Hello, thinking about doing the same build, but 75 instead of 65 (I would get a bit more flight time or more speed, but a bit worst for tighter tracks) what would you recommend? Planing to fly in small gymnasium or small backyard)

  • @MrShutterBug

    @MrShutterBug

    The larger props should definitely give you more flight time. For a super-light 75mm 1S build, I recommend 0802 motors. If it is 2S or has digital FPV, then I recommend 1102.

    You're referring to the big HDZero firmware flashing connector right? Yes, removing that would save weight. In fact, that connector is one of the things that will be different on the final version of the VTX.

    Hi I hope you're well. Got a total HDZero Noob-a-tron question.. what goggles would you recommend for HDZero digital? I've been flying DJI & Fatsharks for a while. a few told me Fatshark Scout HD wasn't a good option and that I should wait for OrQA V2 digital to come out. I like the clear HD DVR footage you posted on your channel. Are they the same in goggle view? Thanks!

  • @MrShutterBug

    @MrShutterBug

    Hi. You can buy the HDZero / SharkByte receiver and attach it to the front of your current FatShark goggles. It connects via a short HDMI cable. That's what I have on my FatShark HDO2 goggles. HDZero has also announced that they are working on their own goggles, which will be out sometime later this year (probably summer). Those goggles will be totally optimized for HDZero and they say it will have 4ms glass-to-glass latency, so that'll be awesome! Buy the receiver now or wait for the goggles? That's up to you. I plan to get the new goggles, and keep my receiver as a base station that I can hook up to a TV at races. Cheers!

    I still like the feel of the Avan props myself, but the others might have an efficiency advantage. I have not had time to compare the efficiency.

    The OSD type has to be set to MSP Display Port. I don’t remember the exact command off hand, but it is listed in the SharkByte/HDZero manual. If you are on Betaflight 4.3 with the latest Configurator, then it is really easy because you can use the Presets tab (just search HDZero).
