Getting Started with Shark Byte:
- Any FPV goggles or display with HDMI input. I have Fat Shark HDO2.
- FatShark Shark Byte RX5.1 Receiver Module: bit.ly/3acLQ9O
- Two SMA antennas of your choice to go on top of the RX. They should be RHCP to match the patch antennas that are built-in.
Parts I Recommend (not exactly what I used):
- Shark Byte TX5S.1 single board digital VTX: bit.ly/2PW8eNR
- Runcam Nano HD Camera: bit.ly/3e1GgIp
or Foxeer Digisight V2 (I have not used it, but it is another option): bit.ly/32iNcLD

OR Happymodel 1202.5 6400KV Motors (what I used here): bit.ly/3wZFdkG
OR other motor with similar size and KV.
- BetaFPV 12A F405 Whoop AIO. It is light and has good features. It also has motor plugs, which you could use or remove: bit.ly/3acAjr5
OR BetaFPV 20A F405 Toothpick AIO for an even easier and more robust build: bit.ly/3mPbiqR
- Gemfan 3018 2-blade props (1.5mm shaft or 2mm shaft depending on your motors): bit.ly/2T9KkNW
or Gemfan 3016 3-blade props (these fly smoother, but they have less power for pulling out of dives): bit.ly/36REC7a
- RHCP Singularity Antenna with U.FL (I recommend not using the "short" one. It is harder to get a good antenna placement): bit.ly/3uMgi2e

That is the cleanest looking tiny HD quad I could ever imagine. Incredible work.
The smile one your face when you crashed at 22:35 say all about FPV. Pure. Enjoyment.
Nobody rips a back yard like Mr. Shutterbug! Awesome video and interesting info on SharkByte.
Thanks for the crash footage... It's nice to know your human.. 😊😊

4:49 min - FC AIO with inbuld VTX doesn't support Pit mode. But there's a solder jumper to disable the VTX completely.
Beautiful fly bro...
As always, I am humbled yet very inspired. Thank you for another awesome video!
Sweet got me thinking now.
Love your vids! You, Nick Burns, and of course Bardwell really got me into the hobby a year ago and I’m so happy I found you all. Keep it up and I look forward to your next video!
That thing is awesome!!
Very nice video. Thanks for sharing.
Wow amazing flying!!
Your flying is inspiring, simply epic
Really really well done. All of my questions were answered about SB. Outstanding video!
It is really refreshing to hear a reviewer who's impartial about the DJI/Shark Byte thing; they're different, they perform best in different situations/styles/quads, one is not better than the other, I believe, they just do different things, and both do them well. I'm partial to Fat Shark simply because I don't like the way DJI doesn't really play with others, and Fat Shark has been a big part of, and supporter of, the FPV community from the very beginning, and even tho it took them many, many years to put a stupid power button on their goggles, I still appreciate their involvement with the hobby, as opposed to DJI... But again, just my two cents... Anyway, LOVE the build, I'm building something similar, as far as size/weight goes, but with different components... If it flies halfway as good as this one, I'll be thrilled! Excellent work, thank you for showing us your process of designing & building!
Thanks for the thoughtful clarity of your presentation, especially the detail in the description. The crashes were valuable to see as well, it didn't really seem like any were due to breakup/lag or SharkByte issues. It's also really nice to see an reasonable (believable) advocation for SharkByte maybe not vs. DJI, but perhaps as a sometime alternate. Great, as always - cheers!
Seeing you fly in that narrow back yard with those tall trees really gives me inspiration since I have a relative small yard too. Cheers from another cramped backyard flyer. lol.
Dang, you read my mind, and were a step ahead of me. I literally have the sharkbyte system on my desk with a baby tooth frame. I was having trouble finding a good canopy though and only found 1 reasonable one on thiniverse. Thank you for doing this, great build! You saved me a lot of headache.
Outstanding work
Fantastic video and build. Thanks fo sharing!
Very cool. I rebuilt an X-Knight 4" toothpick with the JHEMCU 35 amp AIO and added the Shark Byte whoop board to it. It went from being a defunct racing quad in the closet to one of my new favorite things to fly.
I had already planned a similar build when you dropped your Digitooth video, but now I definitely have to build something similar. Thanks so much for sharing!
wow !! those freestyle chops are awesome !!! thanks for sharing the build and your fly footage :) i Dig it !!!
Excellent build. I have several babytooth builds , both 1S and 2S. This is definitely doable. Thanks for sharing.
Holy shit @ 22:49 I thought you were going to fly into your face! Thank you for including the crash reel 😎 I NEED THIS TINY BEAST IN MY "FLEET"
I really enjoyed watching that
Thanks nice review
You have some fine soldering skills.
Cool build vid thanks
That's a really impressive build!
Actully you are great....give optional board both are great....thanku ...so moch...
Great stuff. Love your builds.
great vid
wow. you are a monster. your throttle control is insane....
Best channel on youtube
Very cool. This needs to be a bnf.
Wow man that’s awsome!! 🔥🤩
Great video as always!
Nice! Man those trees look qwad hungry!
Great video! Love the crash real, you are a meer mortal 😉
Love your channel, builds and skill... great stuff! I made a 1s whoop 75mm my and a 1s little devil 2.5” 50g mobula6 board canopy camera even the 1102 8700kv it was amazing! But the 40g 25000kv Motors bi bladed props and 450hv GnBs makes the whoop a little ripper! And it’s tough as nails! I’m also using XT30 connectors it’s what I had and they give you everything always! Cheers
Wow that thing really rips and you can really rip man! 👍
Great video. Super informative! Damn I wish I could solder like you!
Awesome build and quad. I like to call it the Douglas Dive🤩
I digg it. One of these days I just may make the leap to digital.
Great video thank u
Good job😀😀😀
Nice flying Nate, great crash reel as well. I am still on the fence on Shark Byte vs DJI. I look forward to more content on this system from you.
amazing. i wish id be that talented to build one of these 🤣
Just saw you made it on bardwell!!! Super awesome, I had already seen your video so when I saw him pick it up I thought it was gunna be you and it was! Super cool can’t wait to see his review!!

Nice
LOVE the crash clips.....makes me feel normal....lol!
I hope some company copies your idea here and makes this a BNF.... 2S is kind of as big as I ever really want to go and at HD levels.... sign me up! Looks good man, love all your ideas
You not only can build but also smash those sticks hard. Good job. I'm subscribing
nice little ripper
Nice flight and build. We’re doing a 3s on the 95x frame.
Why is it every time you post a video I want to start butchering my quads 🤣

IT never ends lol. I want SB so bad, and i'm still building a mini lr and switching to elrs.. Sometimes you just have to say no to more upgrades and bench time and enjoy what you've got for a while.
14:09 you can flip it with stick comands too in the camera menu
I mean... I don't think I'm getting into sharkbyte just yet... but love watching you work. and the results looks damn nice
Crazy!
Also I really like the HQ T3X 1,5 x3 3015 on my crux3, just a tipp
Hi shutterbug, I've a little recommendation that could be useful for you, the form I desolder the connectors is connecting a motor to it, soldering the 3 pins and let the motor be on the air, with nothing under it, and then overheat the solder, it comes off in just a few seconds!

Love your videos. Not just for the great ideas, the builds, and all the learning, but you're also a really skilled pilot! Love your flying style. Looking forward to more. Would love to see a more in-depth Sharkbyte review once you've had some time to test it thoroughly. Can you tell a difference between the 13mm motors on your DJI digitooth and the 1202.5 on this build?
@MrShutterBug
3 жыл бұрын
It’s hard to say. In theory the larger motors should help, but my 13mm motors are on the DJI build which is also heavier, so not a direct comparison.
Nice video dude👍
Great work as always! I’m really liking DJI FPV but Shark Byte has it beat when it comes to whoops and toothpicks because of it’s size and weight advantage.
Looks amazing to me. I have only analog
love your vids dude :)
Really cool build! You make some great points about the shark byte system. I'm all in on DJI right now but have been considering shark byte for racing at least, unless DJI is able to fix the latency issue. The weight is another plus for shark byte. I do hate fatshark as a company though lol. Plenty of reasons to hate on DJI too I guess. Whatever, I'm just happy to have HD FPV.
love how it fly's
Sorry to hear it burnt a esc but what a cool little build thanks for posting man.👍🏽😉🍻
Sorry: The previous post is when I really get into it. But I really want to thanks you for your sharing. I think I built my best quad. Thanks!
I'd building some similar picks but using the crazy F411 pro aio fc........ should have a look at those for this kind of project ;)
Another awesome build Nate I haven't tried digital FPV yet in either DJI or shark byte so I can't really say which one is better?
if you change your lens for the one of the baby ratel you pass under is 50g easy
Thanks for the tutiorial - I just wish somebody would produce a decent cam for the Sharkbyte system, the Foxeer cam is also a let-down.
That’s sick #islandfpv 👊🏽
I fly in a tight backyard too and I've been enjoying the analog crux3. This is the first video that really got me thinking about Shark Byte. Unfortunately since I have the old Dominator HD2 I would need to replace those too or deal with less than full resolution. Hopefully even lighter stuff comes out and fatshark can find a niche in micros.
@achuvikov
3 жыл бұрын
I am in the similar boat, I do have HD3 though(but with the same resolution). I feel like having 720p resolution is probably not as important because I don't think sharkbyte's video is truly 720p, it just not as sharp as it should be and noticeably worse than DJI FPV system which I think is 720p. I suspect internally it's less and just upscaled to 720p. I did the experiment and made a video where I fly using phone camera and played back it in my HD3. It looked much more detailed than what I saw with sharkbyte recordings. So I feel like the video most likely would be limited by sharkbyte system rather than goggles resolution unless you go lower to like non-HD Dominators which are 480p
Really curious what your thoughts are on that new AIO fc with the USB port connected via wires (I think it's diatone). Wondering if you just desoldered the wires after initial setup, how much weight savings you could get over a traditional AIO - would love to see one of your ultralight build videos like that
Que bien ese dron que motores tienes ??
id love to see a truly engineered whoop build. one that takes an initial flight time and thrust to weight ratio, and then selects the components to meet those requirements. prop selection, motor kv, FC board v and i rating. etc. eCalc is a tool i havent seen mentioned by any YT drone content developers yet its been a mainstay for fixed wing and heli builders for year..and has a fantastic drone design feature. for racing, the tool allows you to predict top speed and acceleration from the setup you choose. we used to use it for pylon racing and it was more than once used to win RC fixed win events..almost everyone else was just guessing and relying on subjective testing..which becomes expensive.
I found with the tx5s I get about 1k on 200 mw have been playing with antenna s seems to improve picture also the updates make a big difference I'v seen some interesting video's on changing lenses there is a new tx5r race tx coming shark byte keeps getting better I'm running it on 3in and 4in will look at trying to fit it on my 120 after seeing this video

I do plan on changing lenses. I hear the Baby Ratel lens is good for that.
Lost a fet on my crux 3 board when I hit a bamboo leaf with the front left prop.Flew like 7 packs and died from that.I'm waiting on a flywoo aio to replace it hoping 13A holds up better.
Not going down that road again lost over $600. I'll stick to my dji goggles, once caddx releases a naked vista without voiding the warranty it's over for the others. Thanks for the great videos though
I want one 😫
Nice video ...I was hoping lightest sharkbyte whoop ...
@MrShutterBug

I already ordered two more Shark Byte VTXs. This won’t be my last SB build for sure. 😉
Bug, just order some Sanchez frames from CNC madness. No need to cut off the 4th FC hole because there isn't one.
Planning to build one. Is Geprc 12A aio board able to support 3s battery? Planning to build 3s toothpick.
Nice one! In the crux video you said there is a way to change the little coppter antenna to a real dipol (u.fl) , could you explain that a little better or maybe even do a video on it? Thx
@MrShutterBug
3 жыл бұрын
I’ve gotten a lot of requests for that. Maybe I’ll show it on a different build. I use antenna extension cables and cut them to length. It’s a coax cable. The outer mesh goes to ground. The inner wire goes to the antenna pad on the FC. Then you just have to strip away the mesh on the other end to expose the active part of the antenna. 12.92mm of the inner wire should be exposed with no mesh around it. That’s 1/4 wavelength at 5.8GHz. Hope that helps.

that camera mount is fantastic! It would be even better if there were several angle options availabe. Unfortunately I am completely hopeless in these types of programs. Would you mind providing additional stl files for different camera angles (up to 45 deg ideally ^^)

Good timing! I just uploaded them! Link in the video description. Now in 30, 35, 40, and 45 deg. I also shaved a bit of material off the back to make them lighter (fraction of a gram). Let me know what you think!
Interesting. I am more than glad if you can upload RAW fatshark DVR file somewhere and share it with us. Thank u for all.
@MrShutterBug
3 жыл бұрын
Here's a 1 minute clip. It was compressed by the DVR in my Shark Byte receive, but it has not been recompressed after that. I simply trimmed it using ffmpeg (fast and lossless). You will see that there are little squares of interference quite often. I later discovered that my small 100uF capacitor was at least partly to blame. I switched to a 220uF capacitor and now I get less of that breakup. Fat Shark recommends a 330uF capacitor (it comes with the VTX) but I decided that was too big for this particular build. ive only flown dji drones my smallest one is the iflight 75mm i find it heavy. I am really contemplating going shark bite or just straight analog. but i hate to have to get goggles and radio. im really deep into dji already and i only been in the hobby about a year. its addicting and i just have one of those personality's

You'll need different goggles to fly HDZero, but if you decide to try analog, then you could make it work with the AV-in jack on your DJI goggles. I know several people who do that.
