    I have a very old video where I showed how to fix the lens on the Beta75X camera. Most cameras work the same way, so that might give you a good idea. If there's no glue, then you can probably just unscrew the lens and screw a new one in. The trick is adjusting it until the image is in focus. As for making custom camera bodies, that requires a 3D printer and some trial and error (see my previous video).

    HDZero VRX in my opinion is still too expensive for what it is IF you're just getting into digital fpv flying. I'd still consider DJI to be ahead in terms of picture quality. However if the prices drop and it becomes more feasible in cost comparison I can definitely see myself purchasing the HDZERO

    DJI has the better picture quality but everything else is better in HDZERO in my opinion. It just works like a normal analog setup with all betaflight features, just that it's digital. I guess better picture quality is only possible if you introduce a lot of delay, which is not good for racing. But I guess in the future when there are even faster chips available this last problem of HDZERO can be tackled. And making HDZERO Open Source is the absolute DJI killer because from then on DJI needs to battle with free digital VTX software that is developed by people from all around the world who just want to make the system better for everyone without monetary gains in mind. Open Source is what made our FPV hobby possible in the first place so I'm sure HDZERO is in a great place for the future. I'm not so sure about that for DJI (in the FPV hobby). If they step up their game, maybe they can turn it around and increase their stagnating FPV market share.

    @@TimeFadesMemoryLasts True to all of above, however if you factor in cost of HDzero VRX unit, a compatible goggles, vtx and camera unit. It is as much as the DJI vista or even the air unit combined with transmitter. In fact the built in DJI goggles receiver is already a positive factor. If you already have goggles and transmitter then I can see HDzero to ve the go to!

    Great video. I’m very excited about the whoop options and the timeline. I have a HM Moblite7 which I plan to HDZero-ify. Any advice as to whether or not that frame will work with adding HDZero? Or would you suggest a different 75mm frame? I have a TPU canopy which fits the original canopy, and holds the camera by the lens. Probably will need a new one that has mounting screws. I also have a Beta65 Pro I’d like to convert one day, but with the larger props I don’t know what other frames could work. Maybe just stacking the boards would be OK. Thanks for the teaser info!

  • @MrShutterBug

    @MrShutterBug

    A 75mm 1S with HDZero should be great, in fact Nick Burns showed one like that on his channel. In general, 75mm will give you more speed, and better efficiency, and more acrobatic ability, compared to 65mm. But, I'm still interested in 65mm for myself because that's the racing spec around here. Now the Moblite7 frame should work, but it does not have room for an FC underneath unless you change the battery tray somehow. So with that frame, I think you would end up stacking the VTX above the FC, but that should work just fine. Regarding the "Beta65 Pro" frame you mentioned, do you mean the "Meteor65 Pro"? With the Meteor65 Pro frame, you would also have to stack the VTX above the FC because there is no room on the bottom and VTX will not fit in the FC's spot due to the larger hoops. Hope that helps. :-)

    @@MrShutterBug yes I meant Meteor65 Pro. I’ll preorder a set for my Moblite7 and then maybe this Winter look at upgrading the Meteor65 Pro. I recently added an ELRS receiver to my Moblite7 for proximity flying outside around my house. So I can’t wait to add HDZero for a better picture and video penetration than the AIO VTX. I’m OK with stacking the boards as I just freestyle so the higher profile doesn’t bother me. Thanks!

    It can get pretty hot if the VTX is on when when the drone is on the ground, but not hot enough to melt a whoop frame. I recommend using "low power" mode so that it only broadcasts at 25mW when the drone is disarmed. That will help.

    The mounting of the VTX is just like any whoop-style AIO (all in one) flight controller. Therefore, if a frame says that it supports AIOs, then it can probably work. Just use longer screws and some spacers to stack the VTX on top of the FC (or visa versa). My favorite 1S carbon frame is probably the Babytooth from FPVCycle.com. You can see videos on my channel about the 1S Babytooth build. There are plenty of other frames too if you search around. 2.5" or 65mm 2-blade props also make for a good 1S build. A light build with HDZero can now get pretty close to 20 grams. Analog will continue to have a weight advantage for the foreseeable future, but the gap is getting smaller and smaller. I think it's getting to the point where a pilot could choose to fly HD and still have a good shot at winning. They won't be as light as their analog competitors, but they will be able to see more clearly. Depending on the lighting conditions, that could make a big difference too. Anyway, it's a step in the right direction. I love seeing the tech improve at such a fast pace! I would also love to see an HD spec class in the future. That would be a lot of fun, and much better for spectators too (HDMI to the big screen!)

    As good as the open source announcement looks, HDZero would never be as successful as ELRS. Individual efforts will be always against their business interests and will drive community away. An example of this is Prusa, even though their hardware and software is open source, community never had a real impact on their products and their maintainers are very uneager to merge contributions unless they are simple bug fixes.
