Tinker Diggens , fully impossible, without the work of The HOLY SPIRIT. We must be Biblically saturated. No one preaches perfectly, or to put it plainly, All Truth, because of indwelling sin. i myself was like, "Woe, he just said that!" Then when i ran it back in contexct it made more sense. That's a great question. reading the word everyday is the best way to get to know Him and once you do that, you will realize nothing else can satisfy you the way He does. "Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart." Jeremiah 29:12-13.

First I want to say great sermon! I agree wholeheartedly with Pastor Piper's conclusion regarding the essence of evil as it pertains to us, but I'm not so sure that I agree in regard to Adam and Eve. I think he highlights a paradox unwittingly. The question that is begged is how could Adam and Eve, two morally perfect creatures have evil desires? This of course leads to the following dilemma: i.) If they have evil desires prior to the infraction (eating the fruit), they aren't morally good, as the desire itself, according to Piper (and I agree) is the essence of evil. ii.) They have evil desires prior to the infraction iii.) They aren't morally good iv.) Scripture teaches that they were good (qualitatively and morally). The only way one gets around the paradox is to reject the 1st premise. I could be off on my definition of 'moral goodness' or what constitutes moral goodness, or perhaps there is an equivocation on the word good, I welcome correction. As far as I see in the case of Eve she didn't actually think God was holding out (evil desire), but was convinced that by partaking of the fruit she was actually doing good, because the serpent lied to her. Yet, Adam wasn't deceived he knew what he was doing was wrong, as scripture records he listened to his wife. It would seem that Adam, out of love for his wife and presumption of the Lord's goodness, chose (wrongly) to join his wife instead of dying for her (the appropriate response considering Christ). All this to say I don't think Adam and Eve had 'evil' desires regarding God as we do, but I could be wrong.

@@djheaven555 i don't think they were evil either, but the traditional view of the fall would force us to believe they had evil desires (God holding out) prior to the eating of the fruit. Belief of the lie, the lie being a falsehood about God, is sinful.

@@djheaven555 sorry for the late response got side tracked. It's basically what John Piper explained - that Adam and Eve, wanting to be 'like God,' partook of the fruit. In this case they believe that God is somehow holding out on them and they want to be gods themselves. My issue is that this would make them sinners prior to the eating of the fruit. Piper, I think, concedes this. And this would call into question their goodness. Now I must acknowledge I think the reason we hold to this view is because it's so familiar. Isn't this out experience, wanting to be gods ourselves, so why not Adam and Eve. The problem is that they wouldn't have had the same sinful inclinations at least as I've understood the teaching on the fall. Now I could be wrong, or perhaps we would need to rethink what is meant by them being created good.

Same as this generation.

That I have learned that evil is not in my life since I have learned to keep following Jesus teachings.

Dr ew I was honored to be there and to hear John Piper speak! It was in Atlanta and it was an event for college students called Passion 2017.

These people are liars of there father's desire they do They make the Gospel into a graven image they can worship and still worship the god of this world.

God is the ultimate essence of evil. Even worse than Lucifer. If the painting is bad, you blame the painter not the painting. God created Lucifer as a target to cast blame onto. If God is all powerful, he can do anything he wants. If he’s all knowing, he knew exactly what would happen if he created the devil. He knew EXACTLY who would go to heaven and who would burn in Hell for all eternity. And he created the devil anyway.
