Poor Mary having ptsd flashbacks of panleuk 2022

I literally cannot even begin to fathom being in vet school and running a rescue and fostering kittens at the same time. You’re a superwoman!

Here’s the thing. From this point on, I don’t want to learn anything if I’m not also watching footage of adorable beebees.

the "I was very calm but on the inside I was screaming" is a very accurate description of how it feels to think one of your animals might be very sick. You're completely freaked out but some part of you is like "gotta keep it together until the crisis is over and then I can process"

Ah, the days of extensive foster health problem explanations. I miss the kitties, I do not miss the lack of sleep, medications in my hair, and all the poop. So... much... poop. Glad it turned out to be a false panleukalarmia and everyone's doing well - including you and school!!

Miralax for MegaColon! Talk to your vets, but just in case someone comes along to this video and needs the info, a kitten with megacolon can often do just fine (and eat normal wet food), if you mix in some human Miralax with each meal. It's much cheaper than prescription food, if you can't afford anything special. Our little rescue girl had bad constipation as a kitten due to hypothyroidism and was hospitalized for a few days at 14 weeks for lots of enemas, poor baby. But with stool softener, she did fine and is now is 1.5 years old and zooming all around the house. She still gets Miralax with each meal, but she has no incontinence, and uses the litterbox normally. Thanks for taking care even the sickest little kittens!

I would have had an utter meltdown like I don’t know how you survived. But panleukopanickin’ is absolutely a 10/10 description for rescue kitten illness terror.

I worked at an animal shelter for quite a while, mostly caring for quarantined animals, either cats or dogs depending on the day. Pregnant cats or cat with kittens were what we quarantined, and panleuk was always one of our biggest concerns. With 40+ pregnant cats and cats with young kittens on any given day, we generally had at least one kennel with panleuk. Some of the hardest mornings were when we found kittens that passed overnight that seemed fine the day before...

I totally understand the panic! Because you are good and kind and decent and loving human being you would immediately assume That somehow this was all your fault. If you were horrible you would have immediately blamed it on some outside influence. Thank you for doing what you do! I hope that things become easier to manage and juggle. Congrats on finishing your 1st semester. I can tell you, it is going to unfortunately get hard before easier, I'm on yr 2 of an accelerated BS and between it and work there is not a lot of life. Man those are some really pretty kitties! It must be so hard to have a bump(or many bumps)in the road at the same time and have to problem solve all those little baby kitties lives, and go to Vet' school, and do videos, and run a rescue, and...and...and...! But I tell you, you are doing a FABULOUS job and WE ALL LOVE YOU out here and are rooting for your success! Just such a OUTSTANDING human being you are, you deserve everything you could ever wish for!

I'm really happy everything ended up fine ❤️ and good luck with vet school! You're doing an amazing job juggling all of these things in your life but please remember to keep things in balance, it's so important that you yourself stay healthy too. My best friend has been exhausting herself with rescue hedgehogs (wild ones in Finland) and it's been heart breaking watching her struggle and being unable to help in any way... So please, just take care of yourself.

The dinks are soooo adorable!!! It makes me want kittens so bad. I have 21 rescued kitties so I don’t need any kittens (I’d have more but that’s all I can afford to feed). But oh my gosh they are soooo cute!!

Glad your kittens are ok. I have nightmares about panleuk any time I have a litter of sick kittens. I have one now who came in with calici, and was seeming all better til today, when she had horrible poop and puked. This year I've had several show up super sick, and more than one litter had calici on arrival here, enough that calici almost seems not scary anymore. We've had no known panleuk exposures, and the kitten is due for deworming, so I have to make myself take a step back, continue the antibiotics she's already on, and see if fenbendazol helps. But I definitely have a litany in my head all day today of all the worst horrible diseases she 'probably' has and she's gonna die and it's gonna be all my fault. It's nice to know that other kitten rescuers go through this reaction too when they have sick kiddos.

LOL this sounds like me except two kittens. Pretty sure my shelter did not quarantine these, I stupidly assumed they did. Now we have coccidia cleanup and hopefully nothing worse. Had them two weeks now and the big cats haven't gotten ill so prayers please LOL

My Cat has megacolon it sucks but both my husband and I also have digestive tract issues so we figure she was made for us!

OMG my foster had the same symptoms. Did a bunch of tests and all were negative. Ended up doing supportive care fluids and anti-diarrhea meds. All turned out ok but wonder if it was a similar thing.
