not people commenting "why do those kittens look sick and unhealthy" on videos where you literally talk about rescuing kittens from an environment where they've become sick and unhealthy... why don't you know how to wave your magic wand and make them instantly better?? on the reals tho thank you for what you do, i'm not in a position to foster at the moment but i'm going to start volunteering with a local TNR group. thanks for the inspiration

We need a word, like mansplaining, for when unqualified (usually internet dwelling) people try to give advice about subjects they know nothing about! Maybe “subvising”… kinda like advising, but they’re subtracting brain cells from the general population 😂 Please never stop giving your fosters such brilliant and crazy names! They never fail to make me laugh 😂 and thank you for the incredible work you do ❤

Something to consider before fostering is doing so as part of an organization. Context: I foster for an organization and they: 1. provide medicine and medical care, 2. provide supplies (when they can), and most importantly, 3. they handle the adoptions. Fostering is very expensive, so you'll need help with the vet costs. But also, you want to find an organization that is active in getting cats homes. If you can only have 2 foster cats at one time, but then YOU are responsible for getting them homes... well, you probably be stuck with them for a good year or more. And that defeats the point of fostering. My organization handles the adoption process for my foster kittens and they go quickly. That is why I am able to foster so many per year - because I'm not "stuck" with them because I have to advertise for them. Hopefully this ramble doesn't scare you away from fostering! It's 100% worth it, but definitely find a good organization first!

I lovingly call the cats I work with who are suffering from bum goblins as my "Muddy Buddies", because it's everywhere, they often step in it, spread it around, and it takes a little as a couple minutes. Cool thing is, I now can clean up the grossest stuff without gagging. It's like an unhelpful superpower. Thank you for sharing with us. You and your babies are awesome!

If I lived close to you, I'd be applying to adopt Babwitch and Disco Ball. Those little dinks are so cute. Name those kittens whatever you want. If the adopters don't like them, they can just give them new names. Some people aren't happy unless they can find something to feel superior about. They clearly haven't watched enough of your content to realize how much you do for these babies (like sweet little Fennec Fox 😢). It's good that you don't let those negative comments get to you.

Yes to the “day in the life” videos! I had been watching your videos since 2021, but I still didn’t understand how difficult fostering kittens could be when I took in my first litter a few months ago. All is good now and they’re all adopted out, but all of the unforeseen issues no one talks about much caught me off guard. My resident cat was FURIOUS about the mama cat, and I tried so many ways to keep them separate after reintroductions failed. The yowling when one was locked away while the other roamed was awful. Once Mama went to a new foster so her kittens could be weaned, my cat was fine with her kittens. I now know I can’t foster adult cats, only kittens. It was little unanticipated issues like that that tripped me up and caused so much stress. However, I loved helping them and will be fostering again soon.

So many people think kitten rescue is just about scooping up cute little fluffballs and if a kitten is sick it must be poor care. Not the case at all. We get a some pound rescues of cats, usually around a year old that someone "found" hanging around their apartment building. Often the person that "found" the cat is the owner and has gotten tired of the cat. They are usually clean and healthy and about the only clean healthy cats we get. Pretty much every other cat we get has been in the wild for awhile and they're dirty, often sick sometimes very sick. Certainly they have worms, etc. And often they are traumatized and it takes awhile for them to trust people again. It's hard and dirty work. But when you see that cat over their problems, happy again, and going to a new and better home - it's worth it.

As someone who worked as a shelter tech for a shelter who was also animal control, kittens are 100% little chaotic trash goblins. Sometimes, I feel like it's easy for people to forget that kittens that end up in foster usually came from awful backgrounds. They were found on the street, behind/under a dumpster, hit by a car, and so on and so forth. It's common to get kittens coming in with upper respiratory infections, eye infections, fleas, worms, diarrhea/vomiting, and (god forbid) ringworm. And I'm saying with all of those things at the same time. It's a lot to handle. Kittens run through their food, their poop, their water, and then ping-pong around like they're not filthy. There were so many times where I would get a kennel of kittens perfectly cleaned and nice, and literally, a minute later one of them would dump their water bowl or just shoot out liquid poop. Fosters and rescues would love to document and share videos/photos of their rescue but there's just so much to do it's hard to find time. As a shelter tech, working during the summer, I was working about 60 hours a week on average. One day, due to coworkers being sick and other things beyond my control, I took care of about 80 cats by myself. I started work at 6am and didn't get done until about 6pm. If you do have concerns, please ask questions! But more importantly, VOLUNTEER! Help fosters and shelters with the cleaning! That is what shelters usually need. We don't need people to play with the kittens. We need people to help us take care of animal babies. We need people to help with sanitizing, and cleaning litter boxes, and all of the other nasty jobs. Or, become a foster yourself! It's hard work but it can be so rewarding. Anyway, instead of choosing hate, educate yourself instead. Thanks for coming to my TEDtalk. Have a good day.

Goodness, I hope some of those commenters never have kids. I rescued years back, before the interwebs. Luckily, noone judged me. There is so much poop in rescue, you quickly learn that said poop needs time to come out (of multiple kittens and mom), or they literally poop while you are cleaning. Every few hrs is appropriate. Eye yuckers happen for so many reasons... Treating their eyes sounds like a minimalization of what goes into curing whatever is causing the eye thing. Long story short, sick kittens eyes always look infected to laymen. Mary, you have such a great attitude on this stuff. Keep up the EXCELLENT work!

I’m sorry but those people who commented on the cleanliness or smell must not have ever taken care of real, live cats. Unless they are stuffed, real cats, especially sick cats, will cause messes that smell, be it poop, pee, a runny combo of that, vomit, or all manner of effluvia from various infected or otherwise orifices. That’s just part of rescue. Many are too used to watching highly produced videos from rescuers who only focus on the shiny, pretty kittens in pristine, PR-worthy settings. Don’t let it get to you; we who know appreciate the love you give and the work you do for all your dinks. 😊

OMG, how dare you post videos that show ACTUAL REALITY! I wonder how many of these posters understand that you run a rescue, which means you take in sick, injured, frightened, traumatized animals, and that rehabilitation takes time and effort. Also, kittens are not just very cute, but very destructive; that's just part of their inherent nature when growing up. Edit: The worse cat names ever are those that run along the lines of Lord High Count Furdinand Purrilator the Third. Your choices rock in contrast to that.

I found your channel purely by chance and fell in love with your content. I love what you're doing, I love seeing even the hard, dirty work that goes into fostering and rescue. It's amazing what you guys do. The silly names are perfect, and my husband thinks they're hilarious so keep them coming. Also, the Jenna Marbles refs with the Dinks? Oh my gooood. Love it. We all miss her but dedicating kitten names to references from her channel is just beautiful lol. Rabbwitch and Aries are my favorite names, but Garbage Plate is just a delight on camera. She's so mischievous and curious, climbing all over you and just soaking up the attention. Keep doing what you're doing, I'm loving your channel so much!

I rescued a kitten that I found running in my yard after work earlier this year now he's my folks dog best friend they play every day. The day after I got him we had a bad flood I'm so thankful I was able to save little Shadow cause he wouldn't have survived that storm.

Your comments ring true. I had two baby raccoons to handle at one point (not 5 and a mama!) and it was EXHAUSTING trying to keep up... We moved them to an outdoor pen as soon as we could and then moved that pen around the yard because it was really not possible to clean it out any other way. Only two months, and when they were ready to go back out into the wild, I was too!!!

I had my kitten at 9mths get a tummy bug and my house was toxic. And that’s just 1 baby. I think we need to remember that babies, human or animal, are chaos, absolutely. We do what we can to take care of them. Sometimes stuff gets messy. I love you so much Mary. You are a great human. ❤

The amount of people who have supreme confidence to watch one KZread short (maybe two) and be like "ah yes, I have all the information I could possibly need to post the most condescending and judgemental comments to a real person". So many of them write things that are answered in other shorts! 60 seconds is rarely enough time to have a full grasp on a situation.

The only vinegar that should be within a cat is in their attitude~. /gen This said due to my family's tradition of saying that my cat is full of sauce or vinegar when they're in a play-fight mood. i.e. "Sir, are you full of sauce?" "Mrregh!" "Oh no? Perhaps vinegar?" "Myrah!" "Sauce AND vinegar!? What a conundrum!" "Mrrf..." "I agree."

This reminds me of when I worked at a dog groomer and we sent a cute picture of a client’s dog to them. There was a little hair on the floor because, you know, dog groomer. And the client freaked out! She went on a whole rampage about how dirty it was and her poor dog. The hair on the floor came off of clean dogs straight out of the bath. The walls were squeaky clean and we sanitize the floors every night. So yeah, people don’t seem to understand how animals work.

If people don't like the names, they can always adopt and name the cats whatever they want. It's how a cat that was going to be named Oreo got adopted by my mom. My mom hates Oreos, but loved that kitten, so she took her home and named her Natasha. Tasha was a great cat.

Yeah. I totally feel for you. I had to nurse my two big cats through giardia. Oy, what a mess everywhere! What a terrible smell! I was washing the floor, the bedding, the cats' butts ALL the time. Plus, having to corner them to give them their medicine, which I must assume tastes extremely nasty.

Argh! The unsolicited advice comments drive me nuts. Not just on your videos but on any rescue's videos. Like... are you serious? You're going to give advice to a rescue, that has a team of people, vets likely on speed dial and actual veterinary students and/or techs volunteering with them. Okay then. I'm so glad that you can take it in stride and laugh about it. Laughter will keep you sane.

And it was nasty. But they where sick, i'm nasty when i'm sick xD. I had just the flue was disgusting, sneezing and sniffing and tearing all the time. People are just so weird ...

Omg you are a saint. I took in two baby street kittens and it was “let’s destroy the house with poo day” every day!!!!!! I bottle fed them and took care of them but those little monsters cause constant mess. People need to relax. Watching even just one video I can see how huge your heart is, how hard you work to help kittens, they get more vet visits than most kittens and how much you know yourself!! You’re amazing. Thank you!
