    Love when you take on these really desperate cases where the doggo is in sore need of a grooming. You get to be the "bad Guy" and the owners the saviors in the end that arrive in shiny armour (a car) and rescue them from "torment". Even though the grooming processes surely is stressful and painful for these doggos they will be so much better for it afterwards. Great community here that makes it possible for you to offer your services as a pet groomer free of charge and the guides on homegrooming is even more admirable.

    @@ByHerHandNot sure if this is answering your question, but one literally cannot drive to Nunavut from Ontario. There are no roads into Nunavut from elsewhere in Canada (there might eventually be). Most people fly in and out, and I would assume travel by water is also an option. As the crow flies, it's about 3000 km or 1800 miles from the Niagara region to Iqaluit.

    Not just the matting, but nobody seems to be considering that this dog has never been to a groomer's before - so has likely never encountered electric clippers before. Those things make quite a racket, must be even louder to a dog's sensitive hearing, and she has no idea what they are. From her pov that thing is probably like some evil snake coming to get her, and you can see how frightened she is - she's snapping to protect herself, not to be mean. She was a lot calmer with the scissors, but still not too keen on face work, and she doesn't know that sudden movements near scissors are a bad idea! Vanessa handled it all really calmly and professionally.

    I have always groomed my own dog....but I have had her since she was a puppy and started her on standing for a minute ot two for being brushed and having her toes and feet handled, progressing from there. It is not a process she enjoys but she does tolerate it well. She is a very active dog so we keep our sessions short and I spend about an hour once a week, either shaving or tweaking (thinning or shortening) her coat and we always grind nail which takes about an hour. It was a bit of a learning curve for me. I really enjoy watching your videos. You are very purposeful but patient. There is something very satisfying for me watching you turn the dogs into beauties!

    Part of the problem with dog owners is calling dogs feisty when in fact they are aggressive

  • @ialrakis5173

    @ialrakis5173

    27 күн бұрын

    That's one thing, but the main problem is not getting them used to a comb or brush. Once you have a kitten or puppy, give it a week to adjust to it's new home. Then. slowly get it to tolerate being touched by grooming tools in exchange for snacks. Might seem like boring training initially but totally worth it.

    @@ialrakis5173 Thank you for this advice. We don’t really plan on getting a long hair, but I don’t want our dog giving anyone (Rather be it groomer or vet), a hard time. It speaks volumes about the pet owner. And I don’t think anyone wants to be denied services because they have a difficult pet.

    It's probably pain, matts are incredibly painful and if she is an old dog things like arthritis can add to that. That's probably why she's better after the shave. She also seems to fear the razor because as stated where the owners live there isn't access to groomers, hopefully they can find a groomer so she can get used to the process and she gets groomed often enough to avoid matting.
