Typical thumbnail malfeasance
Why are they showing pics of Nazare???? Jay never surfed there Besides, Mavs is way more dangerous than Mush are'

Was thinking that exactly when I seen this. It was Mavericks not Nazzarre.
That Bob Barbour shot of Jay freefalling is iconic. His iron cross logo was derived from it. Sewers is a short board spot that is heavily localized. Jay was one of the few who could paddle out and get waves on a LB. He surfed 9’ plus boards like a shortboard. Legend for sure that we all miss on the Point. Biggest smile ever and such good vibes. Never jaded. Miss you bro Rip In Paradise I’ll see you soon!)

I haven’t watched yet, the title caught my eye. From some limited exposure to shallow water blackout, I am under the impression that it is often anything but terrifying. That may be part of the problem… My impression of Jay was of a free spirit, and as such he may have chosen to take some risks; he was also massively qualified and knowledgeable about his environment and his capabilities. He certainly was not constantly going around performing acts of abject stupidity. I think for anyone at that level in many kinds of endeavors, it’s tough to pass any sort of judgement unless one is also qualified to a similar level. I have heard that he was a remarkable positive force, in fact I don’t think I’ve ever heard otherwise.
Jay died free diving. Why is the thumbnail photo indicating a cave.?
Too sad... same happened to my son, in 2008.💔

So very sorry to hear that. My deepest condolences.
He was a great inspiration. He also made all of us who wipe out spectacularly feel just a little bit less stupid. May his soul rest in peace.
um.....look. Sad story. Here are a few corrections: Freedivers don't 'often' dive in pairs - they ALWAYS dive in pairs as a standard procedural rule. Occasionally some unsafe diver's will break this rule - it's not ok. Also the normal result of a blackout is not a breath out and inhale of water, but the locking of the airways....however if the diver is below about 10 meters, they will be negative bouyant and sink rather than float from this depth. Don't freedive alone.
I think I might have had a shallow water blackout before. I was trying to get my dad's sunglasses from the bottom of a waterslide when I was a kid and blacked out while I was swimming to the surface with them in my hand. I woke up to my dad and a lifeguard leaning over me. I don't think I was out that long because from what I remember both of them were calm. Either way, it was a lucky escape for me.
The movie is nice!
That’s not exactly what causes shallow water blackout and why it’s called that. But good info about how he got to fame.
Thank you for your work .RIP dear Jay ,seelover .
Looks like a nice guy, RIP mate. I didn't know you but have idea what you went through.

I mean how do you have an idea of what he went through? Last I heard he passed away & You're alive leaving you stupid comment about knowing what he went through 🤦♂️ but no disrespect

@@Johnny2Bags47 my reply was removed but I hope you are proud laughing at a near drowning victim. Seriously think before you write and I hope you saw my original reply. I was free diving too not surfing. Never had issues surfing. So thanks for your understanding and turning this into something else but a vid about a guy who lived his life in the water like I did. And now I can't, I wish I did pass away I am in constant pain.

So young at the start of life RIP risk takers a zest for thrill caught in natures relentless misgivings...
Geez what bunkum.
On the surfing board.
Such a longwinded commentary .
Wouldnt u think that should have been the first place to look.. where they last seen him. Im not a detective or a magnum p.i but come on
I thought foo passed away in 94
Why does this happen so often. People do very dangerous things for a living that should take them out every time they do it, But that’s not what kills them!! R.I.P. Jay, it Breaks my heart that doing something he enjoyed killed him. 😩

this is a stupid ai generated video
These AI generated scripts are boring as hell.
So he died being a clown. Normally you have a dive partner. Obviously he doesnt need one bcos hes better than everyone.. sooo '"live like jay".. go and dive somewhere an forget to come back out, great moto.. hes just another goose that thought he was invincible.

"Live Like Jay" is a reference to his attitude and philosophy towards life, not how he died. The day he died he wasn't diving alone, but he stayed for one more after the others left. He fucked up, but he was 23. I know good kids that have done stupider things and lived. No one had a bad word to say about him and if you watch the interviews he gave it demonstrates why. In the short time he had, he had the balls to accomplish things you would only dream of. It's ironic because your comment shows you are the exact opposite of who he was. So don't live like @ShaneMawhirt, live like Jay ;) Think about that next time you rip on someone who isn't around to defend themselves, tough guy.
