The Story of David & Louise Turpin

David and Louise Turpin kept their 13 children, ages two to 29-years-old, locked inside their house, sometimes shackled to their beds. They were allowed one meal per day and one shower per year. Eventually one of the children escaped and alerted authorities.

I thought the same thing. She may have not been where she typically would be but she was able to articulate enough to undeniably get the point across. I hate to say it (bc I want to believe we're the "humane society" when it comes to the animal kingdom) but this incident further proves my theory. The difference between humans & animals is humans supposedly have "souls" which makes us more aware, sympathetic, conscious & accountable for our actions but ultimately we're as animalistic & inhumane as the most primitive species.

@@brittanyvest5781 When people say they're animals when humans do inhuman things they're incorrect. Humans can and do kill for sport, fun, greed, lust, evil, however the animal kingdom only kills for survival. Humans are much less humane than the animal Kingdom.

I don't mean to criticize the operator, but I just had the slightest feeling that she wasn't sure if the girl was telling the truth or just mentally unstable, with some of the accusations she was making, but the girl gave details and pointed out the things that she knew were not right with her environment and kept the operator's focus so she didn't just blow her off! A girl I went to school with sent her kids to school and the oldest would come home with notes from the teacher saying he smelled like urine. She couldn't understand why the teacher would do this. She told me "I take their clothes straight from the dryer and he puts them on.". She thought that the teacher was making it up until I explained that THEY all smelled. She had lived in filth for so long that she no longer smelled it. The point is that even with all 3 of her kids being known for being the" smelly kid" (dirty hair, stained clothes, etc) no one actually called any authorities. Yet I knew another family that had a 3 year old and a newborn. The newborn was having issues eating and the doctor called DSS and said the parents were withholding food from the baby. DSS came in and took both children. The family had never had a case with DSS before or anything. The 3 year old was given back after they completed a few classes but the newborn was fostered/adopted by the best friend of the doctor who reported them. The friend of the doctor had been trying to adopt for years. There's no proof but it seems suspicious that the best friend of the person who reported the family got the baby, especially when they'd been wanting a baby themselves. The family got a lawyer but I've lost contact with them so I don't know what happened. (The husband worked with my best friend as a paramedic/EMT and she quit working at that company and they lost contact with each other.)

In my head I pictured their voices to be as monstrous as their personalities, but instead they sound like my neighbors. It just further solidifies the fact that no matter what, you never truly know what's inside someone's heart. **The cell phone was actually a gift that was given to one of the other children as a Christmas present. The parents had favorites who they would shower with gifts and food on Christmas, while those they seemed disobedient would be banned from participation (including eating). The phones were never activated to a plan but did connect to wifi. One of the kids actually secretly recorded videos to youtube of herself singing original songs. I don't understand how the children can still love their parents. I have read that the mother once threw their pet cat out a window to be eaten by wild dogs. This was a punishment for trying to get food without permission. Thank you for the video and you did a good job covering the story.

@@philipr1567 i think it’s even worse than that, when it’s your parents that are the abusers. Your parents’ love is all you know of love, fundamentally, as kids. You don’t have to get “used” to your abuser, because this life is literally all there has ever been, whereas with a kidnapper there’s a period of transition where your brain takes time to switch on the defense mechanism. It’s terrifying.

My heart breaks for these children. Once I got to the part where the 17 year old was on the phone with the 9-1-1 operator, I felt my heart break more for them. Imagine being denied the basic right of going to school? These poor kids can't seem to talk or have even the understanding of how to speak. I really hope that they are doing better now. The news outlets have been silent about them, but I suspect that it's due to privacy. These parents are monsters. I got so sick to my stomach that I couldn't even watch the court trials that have been posted by other channels.

I remember this happening. I can’t understand how people can live like this. Why have that many kids only to abuse and starve them. This whole story just blows my mind. What in their growing up years caused them to become this evil?!? Why didn’t the people who came into the houses after they moved out raise a red flag to someone about the cages and the stench?!?

  • @heatherhiggins2002

The person who bought their first house did make a statement about how they thought the previous owners had kept animals in there because of the cages and feces and filth. It never even entered into their head that somebody would do that to kids. I think most normal people would probably jump to the conclusion of animals before children because it's such a horrifying thought.
