Joseph Duncan : The Monster in the Night

Joseph Duncan was a child sexual predator from the time he was 15-years-old. He couldn’t stop himself from harming people, especially children and his final act would reign terror on an entire family where there would be almost no survivors.

I'd like to know who that "wealthy business man" who bonded Joseph out the one time.. it was in the beginning of the video. I find it hard to believe someone like this gets off over and over, so many times. Im on house arrest and watched like a hawk. If i dont finish X amount of work hours this weekend, i go to Prison. Its nearly laughable at this point, if you knew my charges. I think something else is going on. ....infact i KNOW its something else. I was a whistleblower about isht like this and im still vocal.. i never shut up about it. Ive been SA in this very town. Was arrested for ordering dinner at 7:30pm my original VOP. Charges dropped. Its almost like this guy took pictures and sent them out to people, people in high power. Theres a name for them.. I never believed that John Wayne Gacy had friends in high places. Thought it was delusional. Researched his life and he was given like 10 years in Iowa before he "became" JWG the Clown Killer. He got it was sodomy on a teen boy who reported. Gacy did a few months and was released. Where he moved to another State and decided to kill his victims. And all he did.....was not alone, and was "enjoyed" by others. That house smelled like.....and boys were missing. They knew. We all know....how long this has gone on for. People want to talk but wont, because they end up like me.

Shasta is an absolute HERO. I’ve read about this case before and her strength, resilience, and truly remarkable ability to somehow think to ‘humanise’ this monster WHILST he was strangling her leading to her eventual rescue and permanently eliminating the threat he posed to children and adults everywhere just blows me away every time. And big props to the folks at Denny’s for being so alert and mobilising themselves as a group to ensure his reign of terror would come to an end.

They're boyfriends, husbands, dates, dads, & drill sergeants. They are freed because their buddies defend them & attack women. And girls. If they get away with one----and they do----they'll rape more women and girls. They are often athletes who get probation, and people say crap like, "But he's _good looking_ , he doesn't _need_ to rape!" Or, "Look what she was wearing!" They lie about being sexually abused. Women are sexually abused, too, but people snigger and say, "Thank God for daddy issues, otherwise there'd be no strippers." The reprehensible thing is that he never should have been freed! Sexual predators never ever stop. They should get life in prison, no parole. Yet to this day sexual predators are constantly being released only to attack again. We need to change the laws instead of allowing, as policy, more victims to be raped, tortured, and murdered. It's a massive failure of the justice system. This tragic story is another example of that failure.

Around the local area here in Idaho, the last name of Brenda, and her 3 kids is pronounced “GROW-née” even though it does look more correctly like “GROW-en” as you pronounced it here in the video. I’m very familiar with the Wolf Lodge area near Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, as I grew up just south of there in another Idaho border town with Washington state. I followed this case closely and was shocked and elated when Shasta was found alive. When I heard about what she went through, I was horrified. I had children her age. She is a strong woman and I pray she is finding joy and peace. Glioblastoma is pronounced “GLEE-oh-blast-oh-muh”, FYI. My stepfather died from it in February of 2011, after going from being an active dancer and organic veggie eater (most of his adult life) to being a confused, bedridden, man who looked like a prisoner of war. It was just under 6 weeks from his very first symptom (seizures) till he passed away.. it was horrible. My brother in law was diagnosed, tried chemo and radiation, and any other intervention possible and died after just 7 weeks. Glioblastoma is one of the worst cancers and as far as I know, there are still very few even palliative treatments for it.

Shasta's story does not have a happy ending, sadly. She spent much of her teens years in Juvenile Detention for drug related crimes. She was arrested more than once for leaving methamphetamine near her infant children, and rearrested for violating her probation. The judge didn't give her jail time, only because he probably knew her history.

It has a very happy ending. After having her children taken away for child abuse (having meth and pills where they could touch it), she went to jail, got clean, got her kids back and is doing what she has to. She did have some bumpy teen years but I'd say she's entitled to figuring out stuff and maybe the sorting isn't coming through in the most healthy of ways but she's trying hard to be a good mother. I think Joseph Duncan's death was a huge relief for her as she said "my soul finally felt free."

I am familiar with this area, my niece went the same school. You could easily see their house (which was quite a ways away from any other houses) from the interstate. What a horrible person, should never have been let out of prison. To think I've walked thru the same Denny's restaurant door as this monster......scares me.

Poor young woman has suffered so much. She was so brave! I seen a special where she spoke. She sd she chose strangling because it would take longer if she had any chance of talking into sparing her life. She sd it took her to a dark place at one time while growing up. Now she appears to be thriving and continuing to heal. My heart goes out to her for refusing to let that keep her from living her life through all the tragedy ❤️

He needed some SERIOUS intervention after that first arrest. A "few months" in jail is NO WHERE near enough time to be rehabilitated. If it would have even been possible in his case. ETA: 8:00 Stolen firearms and he only goes back for one month??? With his record? Did the judge not know about that little incident when he was 15?

It's pronounced Kooten-Eye. But you pronounced Coeur d'Alene perfectly and I rarely see that from a non Idaho resident. lol But in all seriousness this was an awful thing I remember very clearly as an Idahoan back in 2005. Shasta has grown up to be an amazing and strong woman. Hugs to her. I'm glad to hear that Joseph died in agony from a stage 4 glioblastoma multi forme brain tumor. I lost my father to 2 of those. I used to say I wouldn't wish that on anyone. But I can't help but take that back right now because, imo, Joseph got his just desserts.

This is one case for social media and everybody came together and found them and it makes me sad that this all could have been prevented because he showed signs throughout his life. I remember watching it on the news and just thinking oh my gosh I hope these kids are going to be okay. You must be aware of your surroundings at all times I had a camera at work that I would go through continually, we catch kids drinking and stairways we'd watch homeless people sleeping and always we need to take care of each other and Shasta you rock

I've heard Shasta's story specifically but never Joseph's, and wow I had no idea he had such a lengthy record and committed murders before this. That little girl was so brave, I hope she is doing well after such trauma.
