Anthony Sowell : The Cleveland Strangler

Jiles, thank so much for showing respect for the victims by saying their names and showing their faces and talking about how the families of these ladies were left to deal with the aftermath of this monster's despicable crimes. As you pointed out, so often the killer's name lives on while the victims die in ambiguity, almost like one last insult. Thanks for all that you do to shine a light on all of their stories.

I understand doing these is very time consuming to say the least, but I was hoping to hear more about them individually. I like to know the age the killer was at the times of the offenses and to know the names , age , marital status , and life circumstances of the victims as well. I was wondering if any of the victims were mother's or married. I just like to know about them on a little more personal level as to honor them.

Eh, if you're used to filthy situations, I can see it. Most of the victims were prostitutes and or drug addicts, too. The police deserve a LOT of criticism due to the fact that they didn’t do rape kits on at least one of his victims who went to the police after he attacked her. The smell from “Ray’s Sausage” also should have tipped them off since they made at least one visit to his home. I’ve read and watched a lot about Anthony, it’s horrific what he got away with for so long.

Yeah yeah yeah - what you people don’t get is that by living that lifestyle you make it nearly impossible to build a legitimate rape case - and on top of that reporting rape when someone doesn’t pay also makes it hard to believe it when it really happens. Of course cops should care amor every case no matter who the victim is but it’s not as simple as “cops don’t care about prostitutes”, it’s a complex situation

Thanks for covering this case. I have been trying so hard to have this covered by the YT True Crime community and you were the first. There were so many instances where the police were called but the women didn't follow up for different reasons. One escaped and called the police beaten and severely injured, they sent an ambulance but told her no units were available and that she had to come in to the station to report her assault. Her trial testimony can be found on YT, she also seen remains in the home but played it off.

Thank you so much for mentioning all the victims. You’re right it seems like they get lost in all the hype of the killer. One thing that would devastate a psychopath most is to forget his name and remember the ones that deserve to be remembered. This might make some mad, but I don’t care if he was beaten to a pulp everyday of his life, he does not have the right to take someone’s life. Same with molestation, it baffles me how the victim turns into the victimizer when they know exactly how it feels.

The timing of this considering what's going on in Excelsior Springs, Missouri is unnerving. (It also is similar to what Ariel Castro, someone I saw mentioned in other comments, did in Cleveland.) If you're here and you haven't heard yet, we may be about to experience another one of these but in real time. Woman escaped from a man's home Friday morning while he was taking his 8 year old son to school. Suspect has been charged with r*pe, kidnapping and assault. (Clay County) According to neighbors, 12 barrels have been pulled from the home. (The big blue plastic ones. Yes, if you've seen D*hmer it looks similar to the one in his apartment.) To be clear, that, as of now is from eyewitnesses, NOT the police. (The neighbor whose home the fleeing woman ended up at was interviewed by Hidden True Crime. I only mention the channel because I haven't seen the 12 barrel detail anywhere else, and I don't want to sound like an insider who isn't.) Will this play out in a similar fashion as the Strangler did? It's tough to say. But considering how long LE has been working that house/property (full two days, perhaps three depending on when they got started), plus a bunch of other bits and bobs that stood out to me, IMHO this has the potential to be a big, brand new Monster. I mean, *12* barrels. Stay safe out there people.

I lived like a few streets over (3 at the most) and often walked home alone late at night as a teenager. Now as an adult I realize how effin crazy I was for being out like that at night and how I could’ve been a victim. However my current partners aunt was not so lucky and was one of the victim found in the house. The crazy part of the police taking so long to respond is the 4th district police station is probably less than a half mile away from this house a mile at the most smh

You are not crazy for walking in the streets, how else were you supposed to get around? Women are always encouraged to be prisoners in their own home while men roam freely. You didn't know he was around

@@FC-hj9ub haha people that encourage women to understand the real world, be smart and protect themselves are showing they care - you act like telling men to stop becoming rapist is an option but we decide to just tell women to stay home instead. I live in the real world where evil exists and you can pay attention and try to protect yourself or be oblivious and risk getting raped and strangled to death. Up to you.

_he only messed with fellow crackheads. He knew if he messed with regular ppl the chances of him being caught would be greater. Whereas they’d just assume a crackhead was lying. He accused one of stealing from him when she ran out bloody. It was a lie. But ppl believed it._
