The spirit of grungni is roughly the size of an actual galleon, with a completely enclosed gondala wrapped in lead to resist radiation. The smaller version should be named the unstoppable.

"Ackchually" it's even larger, easily the size of the Hindenburg, and being able to carry a small army of Dwarfs, multiple Gyrocopters as well as enough bombs to annihilate entire armies.
They need to either do more damage on that afterburner or slow it down. Jesus christ, there is no downside with that unit.

Its DPS should drop as it takes damage, to show borken guns, dead crew etc. He afterburner should last 15 sec and have a loong cooldown. Also make it 3500. I personally am a huuge dwarf lover and I want this unit to be very good, but this just feels toxic hha
Fun fact, not only did the hero slayer at 13:53 survive to see the end of the battle, but he also got 4 kills to his name lmao Kinda sad that all his battle brothers had their wish granted except him.

The two balloon look is from the MMO. The Spirit of Grugni was always described in the Gotrek and Felix books with just the one balloon.

The bridge is also supposed to be inside the ship, behind a big glass window. It's really more of a flying submarine than a boat like it is ingame, and of course it's supposed to be completely massive.
I think we all need more FFA's in our lives.
Flying units dont have terrain to worry about so their positioning should be penalized more harshly if the user makes a mistake - the tunderbarge spits in the face of this concept. the ability to just run away from any threat at 90 speed is so antithetical to what should be this units role - a flying artillery unit that needs to be protected and positioned carefully in order for success. Cut the speed or Make afterburner a 1 time spell or give it a "miscast" chance to do an instant 15-40% damage of total HP to simulate a enginer failure while trying to pump the engines. If youre using it - it means youre out of position and should be penalized for it. As it stands the barge can go where it pleases and suffers little repercussions from doing so

Well it is a giant F-U flying dwarf galleon so I don’t think much logic can really be applied. Haters gonna hate but that won’t stop me from dwarf maxxing these lobbies and dominating my campaigns.
My biggest worry is that when CA nerfs this they’re gonna hit it with a nuke and make it completely unusable. I want it to be an army killer *if left unchecked* but still have counter play. Right now it’s just parking it above the enemy and hitting the afterburner at the smallest hint of danger and then you win.

Echoing literally everyone here regarisng the thunderbarge. I wonder how it would fare if the afterburner was a campaign exclusive ability. Either that or reducing the speed bonus from 200% down to 100% changing it's top speed to 60. That paired with a flying attack animation fix for chasing attacks might make it more reasonable.

I think the Spirit being able to be on the battlefield was kinda dumb, while it’s description of size varies dramatically in the books, it’s somewhere between HMS Victory and a modern aircraft carrier, it should’ve been used like Black Arks with battlefield bombardments and air-dropping gyrocopters (the book says it carries a complement if them) and maybe other units

I love the power of the Thunderbarge. I'd actually leave it alone and instead just keep it extremely expensive. Let people get creative and find ways to focus-fire it down, it's not invincible. Astonished though that the SoG is not a mount option for Malakai = /
Thunderbarge needs to have thunderburner set on a cooldown rather than a toggle. Give it a 10 second speed boost and then like a 60 second CD. The self damage is laughable when you're toting 12k hp around. It can already out DPS pretty much any flyer in the game, it doesn't need to also be able to outmaneuver them.
Thunderbarge woud be balanced if the speed of boost didint out run most of flying enemies/ block their animations
So I feel like the best and easiest solution would be to give the thunder barge and land ship accuracy debuffs while using their movement skills. So they still do damage but not as much as it is more difficult to aim when moving that fast.
I think the air ship being so insanely OP is fine as long as the cost is increased. Imagine something so OP but you can’t afford to support it really so like 5-6 k gold for the airship.
So is now Thunderbarge the best unit in the game?

At best it has no rival. Some factions (like Khorne) don't even have a hard counter for it. At worst it is a very effective distraction carnifex.

Somewhat disapointed that the Spirit of Grungi isn't Malakai's mount option.

Should the airship even have armour? It's big balloon is a major weak spot.
I wish the Skyhammer was kept as one XL Gyrobomber. Would be fun for the RoR to call back to the original unit size.
I'd like them to fix the hit box - projectiles from spells to arrows to cannons are targetting the balloon which doesn't have a hit box - and fix flying units not being able to attack other moving flying units. Both counters to it are essentially bugged right now. Will it still need nerfs on top of that? Maybe. But bugs should be fixed first, not balanced around.
I think gyros should receive a heavily nerfed version of the steam tanks missile deflection ability. Theyre all-metal war machines as well, and their new increased unit model cap makes them pitifully weak. Maybe something like 30% from the front and 15% from the sides. Would allow them to actually get in range of literally ANY ranged unit without losing 25% health
I would like to see the hp cost being %hp based instead of a flat value, let's say 0.75% hp/sec or 1hp/sec (for the speed boost of the thunder barge)

I get they have model size limitations but that thing is way too small for the spirit of Grugni. They carry like hundreds of dwarves on board in the book. Cool too see but a little immersion breaking for me.
I feel bad for the multiplayer community with how busted the unit is, but damn, the Thunderbarge looks like its going to be so damn fun to blast hordes of chaos in campaign.
If they nerf the thunderbarge I hope they just remove the afterburn ability, wouldn't really affect single player while helping multiplayer.
Soon they'll fix the hitbox and the animations.

When did Malakai have a rocket launcher? Books 3 - 5 he had the modified handheld organ gun he gave Varek and then in Manslayer all he used was a spanner.. I've only read books 1 - 12 of Gotrek and felix though cause fuck the end times

Played multiplayer to try out to new empire units and wow so many dwarf players just abusing the thunder barge. 3 games in a row vs a thunder barge malakai and a shit ton of arty. Brought handgunners and hockland rifles each time aswell as a flying lord, I shit you not every game the thunder barge payed for itself.

It's a real shame Malakai did not have different wp options. In the stories he uses sniper riffle, rocket, bombs, and heck even a gatling gun on a cart. Also the thunderbarge isn't really how the Spirit of Grungni was described in the story, it's should be more like a hindenburg.

Poor elf archers they don't know that thunderbarge model is bugged. They are targeting balloon which doesnt register dmg (only cart does take dmg). Guess some rookie dev made it intentionally to help his favorite faction.

15k hit points...this is the dumbest thing I've ever seen in Warhammer. MAYBE Okoii could've taken it down with the long rifles and artillery if the high elves didn't jump him at the start. But even then, good chance the afterburners just got that thing in bombing range before anything did enough damage to it. Oh yeah, and even better - it has the dwarven spell resistance so trying to spirit leech it down won't be as effective either.

Thunder barges need to be campaign only. They're far too overpowered and suck all the fun out of MP.
Hate it. Air attack animation has been broken since game 1. 90 speed.... 90! Unlimited ammo. Massive HP pool. Broken hit box. Stupid high damage burst ability. With healing. Im over it love ya and everything you make but i dont wanna see any more battles with it and wont watch any that do.

I hate when the minority of players (the MP community) tells the single player community with what and how the players should have fun. You dont even know how much fun ill have by absolutely destroying wrong doers of the Dawi by having a few of them in my army. Just ban it in MP or make mp exclusives nerfs.

who is actually doing that though? sounds like a manufactured issue and not a real thing, like you want to be mad about something. Thunderbarge is a bit mindless and a bit too ridiculous for a strategy game at its current price point, but who have you heard advocating to dumpster it in singleplayer? if you disagree that its too strong thats fine, but you haven't exactly put forth a coherent argument for why an army killer at 2800 gold that does everything for you with minimal micro is a reasonable addition. can you explain to me why a big air blimp that kills entire armies should be able to consistently escape melee/aerial specialists that cost more than it? or be able to ignore anti-aerial spells that are designed to counter it? or be able to Thunderburn on top of artillery while taking minimal damage? literally NO ONE that i have heard talk about it, is "telling the singleplayer community how they should have fun", thats the definition of pearl clutching. The unit doesn't have viable counters right now, thats not particularly healthy for a strategy game, period. But that doesn't mean the Thunderbarge shouldnt be strong, and that it shouldnt be fun. Just that it probably needs some tweaks to be a bit more reasonable, so that other factions can possibly counter it if they play properly and bring the right builds

Its an issue i dont get cause it could be resolved by simply making adjustments to mp as majority of people speaking for campaign doesnt seem to have a lot of trouble with it. In mp i get the issue of something being op like that, but i dont play mp so as i said “ban/nerf it in mp leave it in sp as is”, sp can be nerfed by mods and when that gets popular by a majority of players, i will personally call for it to be nerfed. But why take the fun away for campaign when honestly 99% of people dont care if something is really that overpowered or not.

its a strategy game, first and foremost. units should be designed to have strengths, weaknesses, drawbacks, and counters. every other tier 5 unit in the game has weaknesses, from the Dread Saurian to Steam Tanks. A unit can be very strong, but it should still have weaknesses, and the Thunderbarge certainly has weaknesses in the source material, that aren't currently reflected well in game. That is simply bad design and should be changed. Like the fact that it can ignore elite melee flyers that are technically faster than it, or afterburn through anti-aerial spells like Tempest. If you want a power fantasy where the game plays itself, and kills everything on screen at the touch of a button, you can use mods for that (there are many), but that shouldn't be the baseline design of a unit, even a very strong one. Balance and unit design are still important in campaign/singleplayer. And a single unit completely trivializing the game is not healthy, ESPECIALLY when it is not capped or restricted in any way. People saying "i think this element of the unit should change because it is OP, here is why I think so", is not dictating to you how you should have fun. It's legitimate critique about the current design of the unit. If you do not believe it should be nerfed, feel free to leave an argument for why not. But I dont believe that "CA should never nerf anything in singleplayer" is a legitimate argument, because it flies in the face of good game design. Nerf is not a dirty word, they need to happen sometimes. Afterburn right now is OP, it has no cooldown and turns what should be a slow and lumbering behemoth into a fighter plane that ignores all its intended counters. Afterburn should be changed, it is silly in its current state
I'm gonna farm the hate but I don't mind the dwarfs finally having some big engineering masterpiece in the game. And I dont even play dwarfs. 😅 Let dwarfs have their power fantasy. Multiplayer is just a fraction of what most players enjoy anyway.

The issue isnt power fantasy, the issue is that it is the most overpowered unit in the entire game by a long shot. Its stupidly tanky, does devastating damage to both blobs and single entities, can be healed and its ammo replenished, its fast enough to outrun any danger and easily counters most of its supposed counters. Unless you brought a lot of anti-large strong missile units, an insane amount of magic or a different thunderbarge, you aint killing it. I am really thankful there are no factions that dont have a easy access or even no access to those options. I am sure that khorne or the orks would deal with it easily

The problem isn't that it can do that, the problem is that it is the first of its kind that works that well. Have you every watched a giant, hulking Demon Prince swipes through enemy infantry lines, but only killing like 4 men and not 30? Well I have. For me, this is the first unit in the game that does what it should be doing with a size like this and how technology advanced it is. I'd rather have this than big comets coming down from the very sky and hitting in the middle of a battalion to only dealing minimal damage.

@@Rub-A-Duck there are lots of mods for that if you want it but frankly 'i delete your army' isn't very fun to play against, and 'i win without challenge' isn't very fun to play. It still ends up that way eventually, but it's clearly not what CA is going for. If you want something like that that is balanced I recommend something like dominions 6

@@Rub-A-Duck The issue is that it does this to everything. It wipes the floor with other late game units. Bloodthirsters? Easy. Lord of change? Easy. Steam tank, pegasus knights, great unclea ones, keepers of secrets, infernal guard with fire glaives, essentially everything in chaos both undivided and monogod, beastmen in general, the empire, necrofex collosus and I dont even know how many others. All easy. It beats every single tier 4 or 5 unit in the game. Against some factions, it can take several of them at once and kill them all. If you play head to head campaigns or even solo, and you take several of them, possibly even doomstack, its literally unbeatable. I am willing to bet that a 19 doomstack with malakai beats every single endgame crisis and quest battle in the game on any difficulty. Even the stupid 1000% mod for endgame crisis. Nothing else can do this

Yeah and Lord Kroak could 1 shot entire armies. But this is a game and it’s not fun to have a unit that’s impossible to effectively counter. You can keep its power in campaign and make some it’s abilities campaign exclusive upgrades. But this is obviously bad for multiplayer

@@swihun8930 This game is mostly played Singleplayer i agree on the multiplayer thing but most of the time the nerf hits all modes and making it a useless balloon isnt really fun

Good fight, but genuinely boring to see the 100th attempt by youtubers to bring the skybarge down in melee. Why didnt the Empire field Canons? It just feels like a rigged attempt to make CA nerf it, by playing into his biggest strength over and over again.

cannons aren't some magic counter to Thunderbarge, in a 1v1 or in FFA. Malakai and double Dwarf cannon is going to win pretty much any artillery duel. He gives them Higher range, more accuracy. higher missile damage, so in a 1v1 Empire cannons lose that fight before the Thunderbarge even comes into play. It has 13000+ hp and a wonky hitbox, it can Thunderburn directly on top of enemy artillery and bomb them to death before they can fire a 2nd volley. Any damage it takes gets healed by Malakai. Empire cannons would have done literally nothing to Spirit of Grungni this game, just afterburn out of range and play away from them until they're distracted. In this battle, it would have played out the same way, Thunderbarge stays on the Greenskins side of the field and farms points there, then goes over to Empire and High Elves when an opening arises

@@milkandcookiesTWwhile you absolutely may be right with what you say about cannons, it still would have been more interesting (at least for me) to see different approaches to take down this beast, instead of, yet again, flying melee. Why would wyvern succeed where a bloodthirster failed..

because the Greenskins straight up dont have better options for killing it. what would you recommend they bring instead? there are 4 armies on the field, they need to worry about Empire and High Elves too, you can't go all in to try and kill it because it makes your army weak against everything else. Not to mention in a FFA you dont even know where you will spawn or which army you will face, that just happens organically once the match starts. Empire brought Amethyst units that did really well, High Elves brought Tempest and one of the strongest flying squads they can possibly bring. Thunderbarge is just a huge problem for a lot of factions, cuz the stuff that probably should counter it doesn't, and even things like cannons will be the first thing the Dwarf player focuses down and destroys with their own artillery + malakai buffs

@@milkandcookiesTW to be honest I think greenskins are just screwed the way it is right now. Such a level of air-ground-threat is new to total war: warhammer and some races just don't have the tools to deal with it. Even though you made some very good points, I would still try to beat the dwarfs in the range game, e.g. with the new steam tank. But ofc, 4 ffa is unpredictable, and greenskins probably had the worst odds. Empire or elves could have done better. Maybe 2 units of hochland long rilfes, firing from a forest, can put some pressure on the spirit of grungni and at least zone it out. That being said. I sometimes come over a bit more aggressive than intended, especially in chat. I really like your content and am happy you are back in the game. I was just a bit frustrated to always see melee fly "gentle into that good night", because I wanted the skybarge to be destroyed for once - cheering for the Empire. :D
