Just a little pro-tip: Carm's sadness was not unrelated to her dream seeing Adrianna in Paris and that cop telling her that someone should tell her she's dead. Having seen the Sopranos for 6 seasons and all those sessions with Melfi, you guys should know by now that that scene was all Carm's subconscious telling her what she already knew and was sad about. She knows Adriana is dead. She been known for a long time. She's even known who gave the order and why. That French cop telling her "..someone should tell your friend that she's dead" was pretty much telling her "you should know (or already know) that your friend is dead."....and that she should stop acting like she ain't. David Chase (Sopranos creator) loves doing stuff like that where a person's subconscious is telling them to accept the obvious truth through dreams or fantasies, and it's not dissimilar to Adrianna herself fantasizing that she had gotten away on her own and was driving away from Jersey, right before we were yanked back to reality and see she's in a car with Sil headed to her death. That was her subconscious telling her that that's what she ought to have done when she got that phone call from Tony, and that she was a dead woman walking at that point.

Phil found Vito because of Carlo. The guy Vito met in the grocery is in Carlo's crew. He most likely told Carlo, his capo, that Vito wants to meet with him and they set up to follow Vito. Once they found where Vito was staying Carlo, told someone in NYC because "he saved us a whole lot of trouble, right?" Right after they heard the news about Vito's death from Bobby, Carlo runs in and says "must've been Phil right?" This also explains why, when Big Dom first brought up Vito, Carlo gave him that look, like "stfu, you idiot or I'm dead." (Go back and watch). Big Dom was specifically antagonizing Carlo, because he knew it was Carlo that sold Vito out. Carlo knows the rules, he's not going to kill a made man from NYC over breaking balls. Carlo killed him to shut him up, permanently. And my final piece of evidence, is remember that Tony gave Carlo, Vito's operations when he first went missing. Vito was the top earner, no way Carlo was giving it back.

With all the crazy stuff that happens, I really appreciate the silent moments with Carm admiring Paris. Also that shot of the rotating spotlight on the Eiffel Tower feels like an intentional reference to the rotating spotlight in Tony's coma dream. Also also, I love every time they give Ro something to do, she's so great, a real OG mob wife/widow.

Cold Stones is one of my favorites from the season. As far as why Carmela is having an existential crisis, I think it's a common experience for some travelers. When you travel to a foreign place with a different language, customs, and its own history, it's hard to reconcile that with your home, day-to-day existence, routines, and relationships. It's like all of a sudden, everything you know is dwarfed and you're just observing the world but unable to fully take part in it. I felt this way in Japan and came back feeling more depressed lol.

This is the beginning of Phil's downfall as he placed personal feelings ahead of business. No matter what, Vito was a solid earner. Tony's greed (a mob boss requirement) was really why he was holding back, not because he was some new open thinker about sexuality. Whacking Vito made everyone feel better but it cost everyone money. These things start to build up over time. In that life, you can't ever appear to not have your priorities straight.
