The Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 DG DN Art lens is an ultra-wide angle zoom lens designed for Sony E-Mount and L-mount Alliance cameras. There aren't many ultra-wide angle lenses designed specifically for mirrorless and Sigma designed this to compete with the Sony 12-24mm f/4 G lens.
Get your Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 at B&H www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...
A wide angle zoom is actually a challenge to design. First of all you want a lens that is going to retain sharpness throughout the entire focal range. Secondly lenses distort when they are wide so controlling this is important. And finally - wide zoom lenses in general are fairly challenging as they are prone to field curvature. Explain field curvature.
Sigma did an amazing job with this lens on all counts and compete fairly on price. I think this lens is a real winner.

This lens is wildly underrated! I’m so surprised I don’t hear more about it. I find the lack of distortion at the widest focal length really impressive.
This thing is a beast, hands down best wide angle Sony E mount lens right now

I love this lens. Paired it with the new 24-70mm. Had Sigma lenses on all my Canon gear. Now I shoot only Sony, so the E-mounts lenses from Sigma are a superb quality and prices.
Besides your knowledge and passion, I really admire your speech fluency. I wish my Greek was as good. You are inspiring. Thanks for your work.
Great vid as always man!
The video description instructs you to explain field curvature and I’m glad to see you did ;)
Great review thanks for clarifying the difference between the mirrorless and dslr versions
Thank you for sharing. It's not a lens for me but I love how wide it gets! I can see myself wanting a lens like this in the future though. Thanks for making this video!
Absolutely love the lens - so very useful. And the sharpness! You could cut yourself on the pics they are so sharp. Yes, the ability to fit a filter on the front of the lens would be wonderful but it's so good that one feels a little off complaining about it. Less frustrating for me is the distortion as we shoot mainly nature and scenery where getting things straight and parallel is less critical. All in all 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Nice review. I like your showing the actual pictures you took with the lens.
Oh thanks 🙏
I have one on the way. Can't wait to do some architecture shots.
First off, I love your classes over photography. Amazing. Check this lens out. Macro, shift
This lens is the best wide angle zoom I've used since Tamron 15-30mm. Super sharp, relatively low field curvature, and low distortion.
Rokinon builds a manual focus 24mm f3.5 TS native. I use it all the time and is pretty good for architecture shoots and some portraits.
Hello, thanks for the video, what would you recommend as a replacement to this lens?
which do you think it will be better to invest to, the 14mm 1.8 Art or the 14-24mm 2.8 ? Thanks in advance.
would love to see some vlogging test with this lens
Amazing lens!!
1) Dig the intro! 2) Didn't want to save this for Lensdays?
Sigma 14-24 mm or Sony 16-35 GM? Anyone can help me?
My favorite lens I own!
Got it and I love it!
Great break down, especially the curvature part. I really want them to redo all the older ART prime lenses in DN style like this one. (Also, I love this intro song. Do you know the name? I’ve found a version of it but without the cool sax.)
As always your review is honest and to the point.thank you for that. I have a personal question, I have Sony 24-70 f2.8 master G2 and I am intending to buy either Sony 12-14mm or Sigma 14-24 but money is very tight. Which one do you recommend?
Used to own the Nikon 14-24mm but sold it again after very little usage. But after using it I realized that what I was actually looking for was, as you also mentioned, a tilt shift. If you're willing to lose quality by stretching or compressing images in Adobe programs you might save a few hundred buying a fish-eye and using lens correction (which, if you really like straight lines) you still need to do on anything under ~20mm on the 14-24... (At least that's my experience with Nikons DSLR version)
Thank you so much for this review : how does it compare to the older HSM version ? I am looking for a wide angle zoom for my Quattro system and these new DG DN lenses don’t work on it
Great lens works perfect with Nisi S5 filter system
I'm hoping you get your hands on a sigma fp. I'd like to see what you think about it!
Awesome review
I'd argue that the company to release a native e-mount T/S would be Venus Optics Laowa. They specialize in ultra wide angle lenses with close to no distortion. They already have a 10-18mm FF lens for Sony, and the Magic Shift Converter that acts as a teleconverter and shift lens adapter.
Everyone: Here's the new Sigma 24-70 review Ted: Here's Sigma 14-24 review
Hi can you please compare this to the Sigma 14mm F1.8 for Sony Emount ?
Due to the fact my income from photography is quite low, and ROI is something to consider.. for ultra wide i think a rokinon 18 2.8 might be a better option, especially when deals are on. Thank you for the overview of the sigma.
Laowa is rumored to be coming out with a 15mm f/4.5 W-Dreamer shift lens for mirrorless system cameras in the near future. And there has been available for a couple of years the costly Cambo ACTUS system that can handle tilt / shift.
What is a good DSLR for a reasonable price that you can control shutter speed
Two of the areas that I would find this lens a good fit for would be astrophotography and landscape photography. I currently have the Tokina Firin 20mm f/2 that I use for astro (Milky Way) and the Sony Zeiss 16-35mm f/4 that I use for ultra wide angle landscape. If it meets my needs, it may allow me to replace two lenses in my bag with a single lens. Here are my questions: Has anybody used this lens for Milky Way photography and would it be suitable? I know it is wide and relatively fast, but I am more worried about things like coma when shot at f/2.8 (which is VERY good on my Tokina Firin at f/2.8); and For landscape photography, how are the sunstars with this lens?
Will you also review the sigma 24-70 2.8 for Sony? Thanks bro
I’d be interested to know how filters work on this lens. That’s probably the only thing that’s holding me back on this lens. Everything else looks great
@vick48
2 жыл бұрын
You'd have to adopt a different filter system because of the shape of the lens, but I heard about these stc clip filters that go in front of your cameras sensor that would work with this lens
Can you elaborate why rear filters are not great? They are small, lightweight, cheap and there is no issue with vignetting due to the thickness of the filter. The downsides I can see is that changing filters means removing the lens and no polarizer filter option (although at that wide an angle the CPL doesn't work well anyway)
I got this lens and compared against my old Tamron 15-30mm for a while on Sony A7 III, and I found the Tamron to be a little better. I sold the Sigma afterwards.
Doesn’t Rokinon/Samyang have a tilt-shift for mirrorless? But, it’s not very sharp from what I’ve seen though. It would be nice to have a native and affordable tilt-shift option that’s still good quality.
How is it for astrophotography?
Any comments on the Haida Rear Lens ND Filter kit for this lens?
Laowa have a 15mm shift lens coming out for E-mount soon! It’s looking a little bulbous, so hopefully it’s not a fisheye...which wouldn’t make a lot of sense for a shift lens.

Great review. Pretty sure Wine Country Camera has a filter adapter for this lens.
No issues with the new canon rf adapter and filter drop in 😉👍
what about the polarizing filter ?
I think Rokinon did a tilt-shift native for Sony E mount. From what I’ve read, it wasn’t very good.

I’m a little concerned with my 12-24 2.8 purchase. I can’t tell if it works with Sony AF-C. Does anyone know if it does? I want to make sure my purchase didn’t come defective. Thanks
This lens or the Sony 16-55 G?
Great lens ..I have the DSLR version for Nikon D850 which is sold for the Z7 and I have the 14-30 for that ..I sadly will be trading my Sigma Art to go towards the 70-200 f2.8 S
normally i would agree with you about filters but with today's software, you can do just about anything post process to an image that filters used to do. the only one i would want would be a clear filter to protect the element but i guess that is why the hood is automatically attached. if you want filters then you would have to get the sigma art primes starting at 24 mm. the 14 1.8 also cannot take a filter. the images are top notch though.

Hey Ted! The reviews have been great on this lens (yours included) and I've been hearing it's one of the best lenses out now currently for astrophotography too due to the very minimal coma. I just bought an S1 and sold all my old gear off so I'm lens shopping. The thing that I'm noticing with these new DN lenses is that they seem to render images that have more character and 3D pop than the DSLR ART lenses did. Those lenses were incredibly sharp but I was never a big fan of the "look" they produced because it just seemed to be kinda flat and dull overall. The new 35mm 1.2 is absolutely incredible. It renders images that imo are reminiscent of medium format. Definitely give that one a look too if you haven't yet.
Agree with the tilt lens comment. They will corner the market given that there are no other options....
I have the great good fortune to be able to travel to European Cities. Barcelona, Budapest, Zagreb and more. My kit is two Canon 80Ds. One with a Tamron 10 to 24 and one with a Sigma 24 to 70. A great combination for architecture. If you are careful in framing, even the 10 will not give me noticeable. For filters and keystoning, I relie on Photo Shop. . I have a long established work flow that helps me keep editing and equipment costs down to a minimum.
Sigma on to Nikon Z! Now!
Now if we can start getting these lens for the Nikon Z mount.....
I wish Z-mount was more open
Laowa Makes a tiltshift 12mm
I would like to purchase this lens but I would have to purchase a filter system for my long exposure landscape photography adding another $500 to the price. Does anybody know about a similar lens that does not require a filter system kit?
Someone needs to take that "find edges" filter from photoshop and put it into a monitor. That would be amazing for focus pulling.

DN actually stands for Digital Neo not Designed Native For Mirrorless...I know it's really dumb lol I MUCH prefer your definition. That's what it should be.
DN = Digital Neo
So how about a comparison between the Panasonic 16-35 for L mount? I know they aren't the same focal length or aperture but......for those of us trying to decide between the Panny and the Sigma. Maybe image sample comparisons?
No issue putting on 150mm NISI filters, so don't get your point.

Yes, optically, it has been bettered, by Tamron, by Sigma, by Sony, etc. But also, having owned it for a time, I hated the plasticky zoom action, something which is well documented. Don't get me wrong, it's a fine lens, just not deserving of such high esteem anymore.
